The Route planner discussion thread

I see one error, this is the text in console:

---------------------
www.miggy.org/:22 GET http://www.miggy.org/games/elite-dangerous/routes-dev/route.js
---------------------

You're trying to use the development version, which happens to right now have a file permissions problem. For day to day use you want the link as per my signature:

http://www.miggy.org/games/elite-dangerous/routes/

I'm careful with that one to ensure 'git' doesn't permanently mess with the file permissions.

Nice tool. Especially when systems will be in and TGC supports them.

When new functionality arrives aside from the route planner please be so kind to post it in my thread so it can be added to another section as well.

Holy mother of all that is dark, sweet, sexy and ELITE! About time! Thanks a bunch. Have some pizza and a cuppa tea. Lets rock n roll !

...... Throws waste paper bin out of room

Yesterday having to use the Galaxy Map in a 380ly trip pretty much crushed my desire to play anymore of this game but with this patch incoming there is hope I can have fun again.

I don't think (from what I read) that it will plan a trip 380ly, but it will help plan shorter ones.

I am looking forward to it still... anything is better than what we have, if it saves me going into the galaxy map 70% of the time, its a win win.

It *may* be redundant now, we'll have to see, but this: https://cmdr.club/routes/ is an amazing crowd sourced route planner. It's an invaluable tool for long journeys. Be sure to capitalize the names when searching!

Meh. It includes systems in the route that need permits. Don't know whether that's due to insufficient data or algorithm, but it's a hindrance nonetheless. I'm really looking forward to using the inbuilt planner. I guess it'll also make long trips more fun with the Oculus Rift.

Sandro's post on the current build of the route planner stated it had a limit to the range. I doubt we'll be able to use it to plan 380LY trips. But anything is better than nothing. So even if it can't do that, it'll help to plan mini-routes to mitigate things.

Nice tool. Thanks.

As is the route planner is not very useful. It finds routes but I have to keep on selecting the hops manually. When I click plot route again, it selects the first route node, but when I leave the galaxy map the destination is still selected.

It's a bug with fastest routes. Everything works with economical routes.

Just tried to route from Lave to Esumindii, and the route planner does not auto target the next system, or even display the next system in the galaxy map or the list of jumpable systems, doesn't display the icon for the route - is this as intended?

Can we get some more info on how its been designed to work?

Does the rout planning function work,, I set a 3 jump route and still had to enter the galaxy map to target the next jump, admittedly it held the route in galaxy map., also I couldn't plot a course ot just anywhere on the map , if it was outside the area I was in IE the green spider leg patter in the current area then it wouldn't plot the route, so seems kinda pointless to me unless I missing something

Enty

I understand that for technical reasons we can't have full route planning for target systems outside the 50 Ly (?) bubble, but still we should have something to help plan routes even to the most distant targets.

I suggest that when a target system is outside the bubble, route planning generates a route to the system closest to the target but still inside the bubble.

It would also help if the system name input field in the galaxy map had a dropdown list of the most recent names entered.
