What is your Elite Quirk?

Fair warning, this is intended to be a light hearted post (god knows this forum needs something funny) and I will be poking fun at myself, feel free to poke some back :D

Okay, today's topic is: What is your Elite Quirk, as in what little traits, superstitions or rituals do you have in the game. Here are some of mine:

(1) At the end of each session, I just can't log off. Nope, I have to make sure the ship is lowered into the Hangar (put to bed so to speak), it is fully refueled and rearmed, and the paint and integrity have been attended to so both are sitting at 100%. Yes there are times when I can't do this, either out exploring, or the station doesn't have the necessary facilities. So guess what I do, yep I will log on as soon as possible and try to get to a station to make everything 'perfect' again.

(2) I hate wasted space in the cargo hold, detest it with a passion. I would rather carry something that might cause a loss than carry nothing at all. I spend more time trying to work out which missions to take, to where, what else can I take, if it is a multi-hop run, what can I carry between stations, is there any courier missions I can grab along the way. I put it down to doing something very similar in the Military for over 30 years :D

(3) Although I now predominantly play in Solo, I use to do this in Open as well. I like annoying NPCs, it makes me smile. When doing missions, and I get that oh so common message 'Incoming Enemy Alert', I don't start cracking my knuckles ready for a fight. Nope, I start planning on how I am going to embarrass them, how I will beat their interdiction or how I will submit and then boost away, giving them the middle finger as I disappear into the distance. Yes I know I can easily submit, kill the curs and make come credits but no, I prefer the thought that there are some NPCs just utterly peed off with me, shaking their fists at me as yet again I foil their plans :D

(4) My fleet has to have purpose. I won't buy a ship if I don't have a use for it or can't think of a good future use. I like using ships in ways not normally though of for that ship. For example, my FdL is now related to running those small chain missions and courier mission. My Krait Mk II is now and will only ever be my miner. I just go rid of my slightly modified Sidewinder that I was using as a taxi because now my AspX fills that roll (it was either the Sidewinder or the AspX, one of them was going lol).

Okay, think I have embarrassed myself enough for now

I get a lot of weird anxiety around black holes because I can't see it and I know it's there, and then suddenly and massively it distorts the skybox behind it letting me know that it's right in my face I'm sure. Funny part is I'm aware that they're basically harmless. Seen YouTube videos that tell me this, experimented myself and completely understand that I'm safe. But man if they don't give me the willies when I'm around them.

Nothing wrong with that, you are honouring the threat and recognising the possible danger :D

I have strong preferences for how I care to go about playing the game. I'm not sure I'd consider them quirks though.

I suppose the closest to a quirk would be attempting to play the game more realistically and contextually, along the lines of what I'd do being a Commander in the Pilots Federation instead of playing the game's various progression metas, using ship rebuys, and that sort of thing. Perhaps a quirk since the way I play doesn't really seem like the intended game-play, or if it is, to a lesser extent than I care for.

1) When docked, like you OP, I always lower my ship to the hangar before logging out.
2) While driving on the surface of the planet (when searching for raw mats) I never log out in SRV. I always calling the ship and loging out when I'm aboard.
3) While scooping, like Jethro49, I always need to have the star on my left or right.
4) While docking inside the station I'm always late with deploying my landing gear. I deploying it after the warning from flight control. I remember to deploy, but I think it's always to early. I don't know why.
5) I have some kind of obsession with ship use. I have 10 ship and all of them need to have specific role. I hate unused ships. Now I need to figure it out what kind of role will be good for my FAS. Now I'm building Vulture. Also I have Challenger for combat. So I can't stand the lack of use for FAS. I will turn it to PvE RES site bounty hunter or AX scout killer.
6) All of my ships need to be engineered. At least to grade 4 on every module. I'm not flying unengineered ships.

So... grinding... grinding....

That's not a quirk, it's regular thing for me. As IRL you don't leave your car in the middle of the road - you park at your place / garage, turn off radio, navigation and heating/AC. You engage breaks, close windows and take bag out of the trunk.

Same in ED. Land on pad, lower to hangar as I treat it as parking place. Refuel, repair, restore integrity so the next day my ship is 100% ready to fly. This way whenever I need to swap ships I alway know they are in top condition and no prior maintenance is needed.

Interesting, so you rather make a loss than no profit when half empty? I was aware that flying with free cargo space means sub optimal performance but what you do is totally opposite.

Well, for me it's easier - when free cargo space I just check EDDB to see if my destination target needs something and fill my hold with commodity from the market. When I can be bothered that is. I want to fly and browsing for data is so tedious. Alt tab (luckily I have 2nd screen), enter all the details. In game tools are such a PITA so I don't use them much. Most cases I end with just sniping that one or two missions that pay 1M and off we go.

While scooping, I always roll my ship in order to have the star exactly either on my left or my right. Never above or below the ship. I would say 2/3 of the times the star is on the left.

Almost like me but I always scoop with star being on the left.

Once I tried to figure why exactly this way. Probable reasons:
  • IRL driver habit, easier to pass things when they are on the left
  • ship's left side has red nav light - having whole left side burning red from too close scooping would match it.

Other habits:
I try to perform as smooth landing as possible, approach station, pass mailslot at 100, align and reduce speed, landing gear down and slowly reducing speed so I land exactly on the spot, light as a feather.

When traveling you can see Galaxy's disc - one part is more blue, other more orange. When jumping anywhere I align that blue is on top, orange on the bottom. Somehow I set it as up and down.

I have to honk when I enter a system ... even if I've been there before ... many times. I even honk every jump I jump into Shinrarta Dezhra.

I have to boost even when it does me no good. I boost as often as I can while waiting for the hyperspace jump countdown and I boost when descending to a planet in glide mode (even tho that glide speed is fixed at 2500).

We are similar. Your point 1 - 3 - 4 are the same for me.

I never log out in open space. Ship has to be in hangar or when exploring on a planet surface.
I threat "incoming enemy alert" the same way you do.
My "fleet" is made of specialized ships that serve one purpose only.
Point 2 i don't care.
