6 Hours of Effort Wasted

That seems a fair assessment.

I would be happy to block white knights and their ilk (the worst kind of trolls), but the forums (so far as I know) only permits ignore, which (very unfortunately) is not the same. Is there actually a true block function (so that those blocked cannot see my posts either)?

I am also afflicted by provokers who then whine to the (entirely gameable) moderation team when I respond to them. That's a very large part of the toxicity that these forums are renowned for.

Well done, you are derailing your own thread and later you can blame the 'white knights' for it.

Pointless arguments? That's what you are doing. Blame yourself.

I feel you've rather proved my point.

The OP complained about the BGS and you've tried your hardest to make this about him and whether or not he should be playing the game in a way he chooses. It's up to you if you wish to continue down this road but my advice to others is to not allow you to railroad the discussion. The BGS isn't working. It's reasonable to complain if 6 hours of effort is yielding no reward. How you can possibly even find the motivation to argue against something that is quite obviously legit is bewildering.

Remove ticks, remove 'transactions', and make everything as dynamic and real-time as possible.

I fear that without true economy where places are really linked into commodity network it would go downhill pretty quick. Star Citizen (on paper) seems to have it right with players being about 10% of population. With that majority of market can be NPC operated so it actually works. In ED remove BGS ticks that keep it semi stable and suddenly all stations go black/outbreak/famine at the same time due to insufficient commodity flow.

Overnight most seek commodities would be the basic ones: food and water, basic medicines, biowaste disposal. Refineries would beg for simple iron... well, every type of economy would actually pay good money for anything since NPCs won't be delivering it anymore.

Were you having fun for those six hours though? You've not lost that.

If you were not having fun, then why are you spending your leisure time this way?

I explained this earlier, and precious little of it is actually fun anymore. If you want to know the answer, it will require reading the thread, I'm afraid.

Wow, came across this thread which proved to be an interesting read. I like the ‘white knight’ analogy and how they goad forum participants into being moderated – seen this too many times.

As for me it’s been three dead ‘ticks’ and I just wish FDev will hurry up and fix it, or tell us what is going on really. The BGS is my favorite part of the game so I share the OPs frustrations… [sulk]

Where did I do that?

The problem is you have to do a lot of grinding to play the BGS, the enjoyment is the payoff when the tick happens and you see your actions play out (or not if you are being opposed).

With the BGS being so random and unreliable people are not willing to endure playing long repetitive periods if there is no guarantee it translates into the game properly.

You, specifically? Probably not.

Anyway, no one would blame you if you took a break or even quit the game. Just don't post a big thread about it. It's just so gauche.

This cannot be said enough. There isn't a progression curve to keep ahead of in this game, it's all self set goals. I was 'driven' out of the game a few years ago after pancaking on a landable losing all the scans I had made from a SagA trip, planting me back at Jaques station (before it had a carto factor). On my trip to Beagle I took a four month or so break, coming back after the latest exploration changes.

Leave, return, leave, do / don't return. It's all cool.

True, that's why I compared it to a job earlier. Most people don't enjoy their work, but they like to get a reward.

Where you BGS players are going wrong here is by telling them it's broken.

Golden Rule.

"If it's not broken, FIX IT!"

ie Broken and not fixed - too many to list: Not broken and fixed, PVP (6 times), Forum revamps (several)...etc...
