64 Bit crashing woes

I've never had a crash and I'm on a laptop running Horizons with all settings as high as they will go. The laptops specs are i7-4910MQ, 2 x GTX 980M, 16GB Ram, Win 7 Pro.

I feel sorry for all of you that are experiencing problems. I understand how frustrating it must be.

Still nothing definitive to report, just more mystery.

Tonight I got kicked out back to the desktop and crash report windows appeared so I just sent that in.

This time I was just fighting an ASP in a HREZ zone, not an Anaconda as some have suggested.

I've tried with vertical frame limit off this time too, I'm pretty sure I had it set on in my initial post.

I don't think it's a GPU or other hardware issue though, as when I'm not playing ED, the PC is either running Seti@home so the CPU and GPU are running flat out or I'm running some Bitcoin mining for something to do and there's no crash issues.

Ah well, lets hope some problems get fixed in 2.1 !

The good news is that when I do reload after a crash, the HREZ zone is clear of baddies and I don't get blown to smitherines while I'm waiting for it to load. At lease that way I don't lose all those hard earned credits.

ps... Turning off the Launcher didn't help either... just crashed again. :-(

Can almost guarantee crashing when getting a few players into an instance on a planet surface, especially if players then get into their SRVs. Funny thing is that everyone crashes, not just one player.
I believe FD are aware of this particular bug...

I don't have any crashes in the 64bit version.

In theory, it should run more stable as no less-tested compat libraries are used.

32bit crashed sometimes in summer because one of the processes ran OOM and the exception wasn't handled. Apparently, the footprint increased with each screenshot taken.

I get the game crashing when I press play and it loads to the main menu, then it crashes and generates a report with a blank description box and I have had quite a few of the "Transaction Server" errors as well forcing a restart of the game and launcher.

Lots & Lots of crashes.
Mostly when landing/Docking with the Docking Computer.

Always at the least convenient times of course. :)

Anyone else experiencing random crashes with the 64 bitt version? I get at least 1-2 random crashes when running the 64 bit version of Horizons... the screen just locks up with the sound looping. The scary bit is that it does it when I'm in the middle of heated battle in a HREZ. Luckily if Im quick enough to ctrl-alt-del and end the task and reload, I dont get penalized and can get back into the fight. Scary when you're sitting on a few million credits for bounties and there's a chance you might get blown up by the time you reload.

Don't seem to have any issues running the 32 bit version.

yup a bunch of us up here in Jockland have been getting a much higher crash and indeed process lockup issue. Especiallly in wing and at RES's when larger
ships arrive (like condas) .

A lot was changed with the 64 bit codebase it will take a version or 2 to settle.

We all get the same CTD's, lockups and we all have very different rigs .

FDEV have the holiday catchup to do on chansing some of these stability issues i
dont envy them.

We just need to sit tight. Ive stopped playing in wing at the moment as the crashes
were coming too often and a few times BSOD's my machine. Not even a realbench
fourier torture test for 60 minutes on 8 processors and 2 980ti's will bsod my machine
so im sure im the stable element.

I also run prepar3d (sim) which is much heavier on gpu's and cpu's - no issue (excluding LM bugs :)

I've crashed about six times during the past 2 hours. Running a GTX 970. Always an Nvidia driver crash which says it recovers, but the runtime screen is black and can't be accessed. I have to ctrl-alt-del and shut down ED and then restart. It's becoming a real pain and I might go back to playing something else till this gets fixed. Yes, I re-installed the Nvidia drivers yesterday trying to resolve this.

Played Horizons Release just 1 night and it crashed in a HiRes with just few ships in the area. One was a 'conda and another a CMDR. My card is also the GTX-970 with 4 gig but SC with KBoost on and running a custom fan map with PrecisionX16. However, it's butter smooth.
Edit: gonna try the latest driver!

Yep never crashed before 64 bit, but has about 5 times in the last couple of days - 3 today and a few server connection problems!..GTX 970 - while in HiRES in open with about 5 cmdrs..not going to apportion blame just yet!

Jeez it's 10pm..I'm calling it a night and to the cmdr who was boosting for his life in this HiRES on 21% hull, with two Couriers in tow..your welcome!

Same deal with AMD :(

Update...
I've actually noticed that the same crashes occur with the 32bit version as well, not just the 64!
Always in the same scenario though, heavy battles in a HREZ.

Gonna try something different, just in case it's a driver issue (although I doubt it)...

Download Display Driver Uninstaller 15.7.2.2 from Guru 3D for a complete cleanup http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/display-driver-uninstaller-download,20.html
then
Download Latest NVidia driver 361.43 WHQL from Guru 3D at http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/geforce-361-43-whql-driver-download,4.html
I'll let you know how it goes!

I think the game is now at a stage that it's so processor / GPU intensive that it highlights instabilities in people's systems that other games are not. I still get the odd crash to desktop, but that's about it. My issues at the beginning of the year were hungry 2 x GTX 770 in SLI that despite having a 850W PSU, I needed one with a better peak efficiency.

A lot of crashes that aren't Transaction / Matchamking servers errors etc are client-side, and can range from a PSU not delivering what the GPU needs at critical moments, to overheating a part of the CPU by running 64-bit code that the thermal paste is not quite reaching, thus causing a heat spot and crash.

Not that the above is practical to fix unless you have spare thermal paste, and / or a spare PSU to hand.

I suppose I'm saying it's not always anything Frontier can do to help.

Fot Christ's sake, do what I suggested in post #68 and report back.
i can confirm that most probable reason of these freezes is VRAM limitation and turn down texture setting to medium to fit smaller amount of data for now.. if this is the only main problem so far..

this is getting insane, in the past few days my game have been crashing right and left, I even got BSOD like an hour ago, :):):) I thought it was because of my reshade but my game still crashed after I removed the reshade, and like a month ago my game almost never crashed! nothing changed with my pc so I just dumbfounded as to why this happen too frequently lately
