64 Bit crashing woes

Anyone else experiencing random crashes with the 64 bitt version? I get at least 1-2 random crashes when running the 64 bit version of Horizons... the screen just locks up with the sound looping. The scary bit is that it does it when I'm in the middle of heated battle in a HREZ. Luckily if Im quick enough to ctrl-alt-del and end the task and reload, I dont get penalized and can get back into the fight. Scary when you're sitting on a few million credits for bounties and there's a chance you might get blown up by the time you reload.

Don't seem to have any issues running the 32 bit version.

No problems at all here, in fact the 64bit version has solved all the immersion breaking woes I had this time last year. What is your system specification?

I'm running a i7-4790k, 16GB 2400Mhz Corsair RAM, Gigabyte GTX970-4GB, Gigabyte H87-D3H MB, 480GB Corsair SSD etc etc.
NVidia drivers are all up to date etc and not having any other random crashes with anything else running.

Only had one crash on horizons and that includes the time since I was on the beta and that was when I was doing something really weird with SRV on planet.

64 bit.

I have started to get a black screen of death from today. Happened several times so far. I have to go back to desktop and end task.

I've posted elsewhere about this. I've never had a crash, ED or EDH.
My PC is I5 3.6Ghz, quad core, 16Gb ram, 550Ti GPU.

My graphics card is the only item holding anything back, so I play on medium settings. Is this why I've never crashed? I'm not pushing my systems beyond its limits? It cant just be luck that I've never encountered a bug that causes the client to crash.

edit to add I'm playing Horizons (so 64bit) and my OS is Win10 64bit.

Its hard to tell if its a graphics card issue, no error messages. I've got the latest from NVidia, so unlikely to be that. Only started happening since Horizons.

Im getting a full 60fps, I've locked that sync... I might try unlocking it and some diff settings, see how that goes.

I have had a few crashes on and off since I started playing Elite and not really noticed an increased level of instability with Horizons.

I've just posted this elsewhere, but my advice:

Running:

SFC /scannow

From an administrative command prompt can sort out a lot of issues with Windows 10 (especially when upgraded from an earlier Windows), and that applies generally to earlier versions too regardless.

If you use an Oculus Rift DK2, that latest Windows 10 build as above stops v0.5 runtime from working because the "Rift DK2" driver under Monitors in Device Manager needs removing and redetecting as a PnP Monitor for example- go figure!

Horizons will put a hell of a lot of stress on your hardware, and apart from ensuring you have the latest video card drivers, you will find that heat generally and anything overclocked specifically may well cause instabilities.

I've been running my i7 Devil's Canyon CPU at 4.6ghz for everything until Horizon's came along, and I've had to knock it down to 4.4ghz or I get Windows 10 BSODs. These things happen...

Im fine no crashes at all.
Xeon E3-1230 4x3.30 GHz, 16 GB RAM, Crucial MX100 256GB SSDs, Gigabyte GTX980 G1 gaming, MSI Gaming 7(MB), Windows 7 professional 64-Bit.
Im still using the old Witcher 3 game ready Nvidia driver.

Athlon quad core, 4GB ram, GTX470, win10, 64bit Horizons client. No problems here so far

Does event viewer show anything around the time of the lockups?

Press Ctrl F and Monitor your FPS. I too have the GTX 970 and have pretty much the same setup as you with Mobo and cpu. Just for info although advertised as a 4GB card the 970 is actually a 3.5GB, as it uses .5GB for other stuff. There is a class action going through American courts at the moment due to their wrong advertising.
I have sometimes found fps drops in very busy areas particularly res sites and CZ's, lots of graphics going on.
By default Elite sets the super sampling setting at 1.0. I have a 4k monitor so for me the super sampling makes little difference so I drop it down to .85. Also anti alias MXAA in ed settings can cause problems, so try FXAA. Vertical sync off and everything else at ultra works okay for me with frame drops only when exceptionally busy and in hangar to around 45fps. Oh I also turn off GUI effects. Disable bloom and blur also as I don't like either of those effects anyway, but I don't think they affect fps very much.

When i first loaded up horizons on 2.0 it was fine and not a hiccup but when the 2.0.1 update dropped i was plauged by crashes and couldnt play at all .. i then updated my GPU driver and havent crashed once since then.

I7 920 @ 4Mhz (watercooled)
Gtx 970
10Gb ram @ 1200Mhz
windows 7

Edit.. the issue was defo my GPU drivers and whatever was related to the new update 2.0.1 , new nvidia drivers have cleared that all up though.

Perhaps you could attach a dxdiag report to the first thread I linked? It might help them get to the cause of the issue.

A have had the same problems, several times.
And the textures in the game is less good.

I've got the exact same issue on RES sites. Mostly High and Hazardrous. Usually when i'm attacking condas. Now this is really annoying. Bugs can be tolerated. Crashes like these need to be fixed ASAP. Running on:

Inter Core i7-2600K
8GB of RAM
ATI Radeon 390X (with Latest drivers)
Win 7
64bit Horizons

Yup! Just as you describe, to a "T"! Ran ED from early Beta to Horizons (Lifer).... and not one single crash....now 2-3 a session (hours) :(
.
ADVICE:
If you lock up on a planet, and your save keeps returning you to the locked up state when you restart the game. Just dump out of Horizons and load your saved game into Elite Dangerous 64 bit; this will then say something like "This version does not support planetary landing, recover to orbit?".... just hit yes, and you have unlocked your locked commander, but in high planetary orbit. (Then just reload your save into Horizons...and get about your business.... until the next lock-up/crash)
