8.5m Cr ship loss - 30+ hours wasted - discuss!

What harsh penalties?

If you want to fly dirty then you gotta take your lumps: The insurance is right there, listed on your right MFCD - if you cannot afford the loss don't launch, it's that easy.

What he said. It's simple and no one in this game has any business complaining that they lost a ship. It's their own fault that they can't afford to replace it. Not to mention, the insurance to fully replace is exceptionally low.

Snnnnnnnnnnnnip...

oh and if all you can post is some reworked statement about not going below rebuy value don't waste your time! This is posted in the hope that if enough people comment on this topic maybe something will get done about it.

I vote no. I don't want anything to be done about it. I WANT to have to be responsible for my own failings, even if it costs me everything.

I agree. The game should be harsh and unforgiving, but also allow you 'interesting' options. You want to go over the 200,000cr loan limit? Fine. You get to deal with very shady people, who charge extortionate interest, that if you don't make prompt payment on, they send heavily armed hombres your way. Additionally, you get forced into taking missions that aren't necessarily in your best interests or strictly legal, until the debt is repaid (and possibly leading to a spiralling life of crime). Interesting gameplay 'twist', no?

+1 for Space Mafioso and Loan Sharks.

Its A GAME If i wanted real life levels of realism I'd focus on real life! What I want is to explore a virtual universe and not have to expend hundreds of hours just because the minority of no lifer trolls want it that way. Gaming is a hobby that should not punish you in RL terms or time to satisfy a small minority.

Bumped into the wrong ship today and lost all my finances. At least I could keep my ship and start over with 1000 credits thanks to the insurance and a loan. Back to half a mil already. At 5mil the bumping will be continued :p

I feel you pain. I just a lost a fully laden Type-6 about an hour ago crashing into a bit of a station. I could afford my rebuy insurance and got my Type-6 back immediately but lost over 600000 worth of cargo. Many hours of grinding wiped away in an instant.

For a hauler, it's not just the value of the ship that can potentially get lost, but also the value of the capital investment you've put into a your cargo. It takes over half a million credits to fill a hold of Type-6 for a maximised profit/efficiency trading run, so even if you can afford your rebuy insurance if you don't have enough money to fill your hold you're ability to earn credits tanks regardless.

I just lost all my progress hours of work because I bought a more expensive upgrade then I meant to, which put me under the re buy limit. Timed with my first and only death in countless hours of game play. Honestly whats the point of having a loan to re buy system if the max loan is less then the cost to re buy the ship alone, not even any of the items....

No other game has such harsh death penalties, especially as for the majority of people all of their assets are tied up in the ship....

So now I have a choice either stop playing or replay 30+ hours in order to get back to where I was...

Did you try to deselect modules to lower the rebuy cost?

Yes the cost of just the ship was more then the loan cost, hence this topic.

Lets get back on topic, for all those who either didn't read or misread my points:

1) I dont want reduced insurance costs, id be happy to pay more if you could pay the re buy cost in advance!
2) I think the order and way insurance is handled could be done better, you are only informed of short funding after death by which point you cant do anything about it!
3) a simple warning when trying to launch if you don't have the funds to cover re buy would solve ALL of these threads (at least those with validity)

Sorry mate. If it helps, if your upgrade was not one of the standard part upgrades which get listed on the re-buy screen then you are stuck buying your ship back with the upgrade (e,g. non-compatible FSD) so you would lose money in trying to buy it back by insurance. The only way out of this is to begin again in the Sidewinder or swap to another ship you own. SUCKS!

Well unfortunately its tough luck.

I guess some kind of minor ship rebuy should be implemented. Something alternative in between whatever ship one got and the sidewinder. Lose an Asp and you get a Cobra. Lose a T9 and you get a T7, lose a T7 and you get a T6 etc.

Its hard to blame the game mechanics tho. You knew you bought an expensive module, you didnt check etc etc.

With that said, its not that hard to recover 8.5m.

Today this no life troll will spend maybe an hour playing this game, in between work, family, powerlifting training and picking up the guitar to pratice the piece I'm working on. Your not going win anyone to your side of the debate with phrasing like that.

Counting up the post seems like a majority of repondants want it the way it is. Currently you're part of the minority opinion.

Either loan should be unlimited or it should be pre-paid. That way you can't spend the money on something else.

Not being funny but how do you manage to survive in real life?

Like dealing with having to 'not spend money all your money' in order to pay bills/food etc... how do you cope? =(

I had the similar situation and it helped me realize that there is no one to blame, but only myself. Get better in Elite.

insurance amount is actually displayed.

Is it? I'm not talking about the right-hand holographic panel, but the information displayed about a ship in the shipyard before you hit the purchase button. I've just had another look and I can't see the insurance displayed there.

It needs a babbling computer voice that tells you before you take off "you have x points left on your licence" or "You do not have enough cash to insure your ship" :)
I am only kidding. Although the loss is bad and I feel for you, there are indicators, but it couldn't hurt that you get a message before take off that you are in risk due to insufficient funds. Then you can acknowledge the message and tick the little option to say don't tell me again.
I think if there are a few more messages like this for noobs, it would help. i.e. if you cargo scoop something in space, a message to tell you that "picking up anything in space is a crime and the goods are marked as stolen". You tick the don't show this message again option and you have learned an important rule without destroying the game mechanics.
A few more messages like that would help ease people into the rules that can be somewhat obscure and get them to understand the law of the land.

Actually, that is a good idea, maybe it will stop some kids from moaning....

ohh wait... they never listen/learn do they? :p

I found out today that I only have one life. This is an outrage, no one gave me the choice at birth if I wanted a single life, existence is broken I should have at least 3 lives like Space Invaders. It's not fair, borked reality.

If you really get that confused between real life and a game, you should seek psychiatric help!

Keep the money for insurance, or start over, thats the meaning. I would increase the insurance interest to at least 10-15%.
