A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

I wish it was number three. But it was clearly communicated that it seems to be number 2.

Most likely too much extra code to hassle into the BGS daily tick calculation to even care for something with little influence on the BGS. People CAN plan around it by just winning the damn war.

Which would be nice if the influence values weren't bugged should this happen and accurately reflect the changes to allow the winner-turned-loser to know how hard they have to work to flip the tables back around.

I would have hit the CZ's a LOT harder had I known I was going to face a complete and total reversal from being up 10 points to down 10 points which is what the influence states are now reporting.

Since the repending is the base of the problem you wish resolved, you will never see "how hard" you lost, only that you did. I fear without crashing FDs mental resistance to code changes - or love for BGS in general - it won't change.

It would be nice if the news bulletins were a bit more informative as to what was affecting the system and maybe by who. So it could hint that 5 CMDRs were fighting on one side in CZ and 3 CMDRs in another, 2 more doing lots of bountyhunting and one CMDR assassinated 4 pirate leaders in another system, plus it could mention by name the CMDR who murdered a bunch of authority ships.

News from Colonia: Colonia Council goes into expansion on 3.7% influence.

you are sure they are not in any other system with >75% influence

....Negative.

There is in fact NO local news post the 23rd and that is strange given in that last time when the first Civil War behaved in accordance with known protocols, I was seeing news for the end of the war BEFORE the actual state was removed.

The last news bullion is from 23/11/16 and it's about the war kicking off. Day 1 in my outline.

i have seen 0-tick states, but they still produce a bulletin. my favourite was a 0-tick boom... so i still call it a bug :) sometimes a support tickt additionally to your bug report helps!

Yes please!

Not necessarily. I said before I saw a 0-day retreat without any bulletin.

Please, goemon - I'm hurt by your lack of faith ;).

Colonia Council is in just one system. The last time it attempted to expand it was from a system 7800Ly away and from one uninhabited system to another.

If they love the BGS so much, why are they allowing this misinformation to exist?

Why is it okay for the system to glitch out and disrupt something they have a great deal of love and care for?

adam white is the only developer working on the background sim (1 out of 200 staff) that is basically why the Background simulation which is the key to everything continues to get shafted well short of its potential.

Im interested to see the efefct of the following on a systems background sim the first we know but there may be hidden effects ( unknown artifacts, unknown probes, ai relics, large data caches)

And this Ladies and Gents, despite DB's wishes in the livestream during the Engineers update, is why the BGS is continually stuck in cycles of change and disruption and bugginess.
I've moved away from my factions area now, I can't commit enough time to something that quite frankly I feel I have no reliable control over even when I'm the only person working a system. And it only takes one individual doing something unknowingly to destroy all your work because of a simple 'working as intended' making a pigass of it all.

actually ill add a small addem onto that, i would think in 2.2 development the passanger states plugged partially into the background sim may have had other devs developing the new content element, and the same with 2.3. But there is only one dev who hardly ever posts and his also been doing the mission rebalancing of late. Adam white at least on the information ive seen in posts and public is the only one outside of future patch development (new expansion elements) who is continiously working on the background sim, but yes youre referencces to working as intended etc is why its basically stuck in a rut. And DBs lack of development manpower to the BGS and the devs constant stalling (pioneer project who wanted a dynamic automatic procedural colony expansion system) instead we get the highly hand crafted colonia experiment, with associated CGs, and the like....... I would guess it would take less time to immplement and the bases are added only every few months, this and getting new minor factions into game which takes 6 months.

Its a mess, but dont expect the devs to post here as they havent done in 350 odd pages so far.

I don't think anybody has done tests to see the effect of AI relics or UPs yet. Ideally you'd want a dead (no traffic) system with low population. 2, in fact, one for the UPs and one for the AI relics.

Due to the -inf% exploit we currently see an IMPOSSIBLE event potentially occuring in our area. The RULER of the system that has nearly all major assets in the system and control is pending retreat.
I thought it is impossible to pend retreat as the ruler. That makes no sense... besides this only comes to pass, because the BM exploit was tremendously abused making growth impossible back over 1%.

If FD is serious that rulers can retreat systems, their inability to fix this bug exploit in time and with no ETA for the near future might soon doom many factions all around the universe. No war necessary.

If this nukes the nearly sole ruler of a major system in ONE DAY due to FDs inability to fix the exploit in over a month time at least and with the actual fact it should be a HOTFIX, the entire destruction of a ruling faction in a system in ONE DAY will be go down as one of the greatest failures of FDs BGS history.

Apologies goemon, you were quite right to question my conclusions - I've been away from the BGS too long.

Colonia Council has a presence in all the waypoints from Bubble 1 to Colonia, so an event 20,000Ly from Colonia can have a profound effect locally. So Boom in one location means Boom everywhere. And Lockdown?

Are you sure the retreat isn't from another system they are in?

I wouldn't write it otherwise, would I? Besides: They just EXPANDED from the same system prior to it and you can easily read up on the area it happens from.

I am not kidding.

I have got a question regarding states.

Let's assume that a faction is in charge in two systems: A and B
The faction got undermined in system B and is now in the state lockdown.
Is it possible to end this lockdown by activities in system A?
