A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Might be better to trigger a conflict. If your expansion is in the pending queue it will happen after the conflict no matter what your influence is at that point. Guaranteed (almost) method of getting your expansion in about 1 week. The others are not so guaranteed to achieve the same thing.

it isn't true in case of trade.
see first post of this thread: " As profit is made from this boost, it subtracts from a "Boom Value" and once that is spent the boom will end, otherwise the Boom can last up to 4 weeks."
This is one of the most questionable statement in this thread. It is very hard to prove it. You don't know initial boom value, so you don't know for how long the boom will last untouched.

i have a question about that. how come minor factions get into permanent chain of boom with expansion pending?

is it, because the countdown of a expansion is 5 days, and boom's cooldown (2 days) and countown (3 days) is also = 5 days? so the new boom is overwriting the pending expansion (setting back its countdown every time?)?

11.4 % - Silver - State: WAR
11.4 % - Mafia - State: WAR

Action:
Sold exploration data for 80k at Outpost B (Silver)
11.7 % - Silver - State: WAR
11.1 % - Mafia - State: WAR

Action:
Sold exploration data for 174k at Outpost B (Silver) to confirm 01/03 effect
13.4 % - Silver - State: WAR
9.4 % - Mafia - State: WAR

Action: Sold exploration data for 174k at Outpost B (again)
16.4 % - Silver - State: WAR
6.4 % - Mafia - State: WAR

It seems to be that selling exploration data has effect even on time WAR.

no, it doesn't. what do you assume, how this boom-value can be spend?

Possible pirating (baked by developer that it substracts from boom, however noone knows what does exactly "pirating" mean). And sometimes courier missions result in "boom with down arrow", I can't find the exact pattern however, at least 95+% of courier missions still boost boom.

yes, piracy - but piracy is also known to reduce the controlling factions influence, which was ruled out in the original question.

deliver kill list and deliver security chips are the only missions on my list, which "reduce" boom :-/

Short duration ones increase boom (<1hour) longer duration ones decrease boom.

I had assumed those boom up/down arrows for certain missions only impacted whether a faction would *enter* a boom but had little to no impact once a boom was in effect.

Admittedly that's an assumption.

The problem becomes one of our conceptualization of what does and doesn't make sense to us versus the actual code. If the dev made boom *state* (ie a measure of whether they would enter a boom) and boom *status* (a measure of whether they'd exit a boom due to spending down surplus) into two distinct variables it's entirely possible those missions only effect boom state and not boom status. Impossible to know and even a dev stating *this is how it works* isn't entirely definitive since intent and reality in software are frequently two different things.

sounds likely to me, hence why im going away from doing anything in my system while i have the expansion clock now counting after the election in another system cleared the boom. dont want to risk going to boom just yet

We have a 3rd anomolous expansion. Anonomolous in that it isn't into a system with less than 5 factions in a 50LY radius AND it has't resulted in an explusion.

Unlike the last two, which are still not found after extensive surveying, this one matters to us.

We also had one that did result in an expulsion of an already non-indiginous faction. That was a right PITA to locate, but at least we had confidence that it had to be out there, on the evidence of the new faction in the expansion centre.

Hi Good people.
Is Election the same rules for win/draw? as war/civil war. I have an election ending tomorrow and need to know weather to worry.
Thanks

The Mercs have had an instance of the expansion of a minor faction being allowed to flee as if it were being removed from its home system. The bug report is here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=236896

Have any other groups encountered this issue? If the expansions of minor factions are also allowed a free expansion when removed that would more rapidly lead to an overcrowded galaxy. What we need is to be able to remove minor factions, not to have them act they had been enchanted by the sorcerer's apprentice.
