A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Not during the ongoing process. It will not end it. You have time till the retreats last day to push them back down. We did it before.

Yes, but the limit is not 3% but 2.5%

Just had a faction go over to 2.6% then down to 2.5% and then none state. 2 days later back into retreat, and finished below 2.5% on 1.9% and retreated.
Had another faction in a different system retreat on 2.4% after 6 days only yesterday.

So yes, instant fail it does not. But the threshold to fail is 2.5% not 3%.

I can confirm that a queued up war stops an expansion from happening.

System A was 79%, system B was election on 36%, stuck equalised with leading faction for two days, with the election loser on 10%.
Next day System A 77%, no expansion and nothing in the news. System B election ended, pending war.

That's odd... I've seen queued expansions getting delayed by conflicts but I have never seen the expansion vanish.

Thanks @Gemai and @Jimbeau that's helping a lot! :)
Would give you rep but it seems I did that not long ago. The Forum won't let me. :/

As for the Expansion thing: I can confirm that too, for active conflicts at least.
We had an election 2 months ago that stopped a pending expansion. It went right on cooldown when the Election started.

We were in Boom with a pending election. Then the conflict went pending and we had both states pending for 3 days.
Then the election started and we had the Boom and the Election in Recovery. I was like :O

In case you wanna use this: I noticed that Elections have a recovery time of 2 days now, blocking other conflicts entirely during that time.
So keep that in mind when trying to queue conflicts.
War seems to have no cooldown however.

again, sequence of BGS algorythm. it set that war active, and therefor the expansion still blocked.

i saw a 0-tick boom some days ago (with local news of a boom).

That expansion didn't vanish, it succeeded. It is the famours 0.01 day expansion you can get with precise timing. If it is in cooldown it went through. Just look around.

If it vanishes, it wouldn't be on cooldown.

werent there some changes with 2.2 perhaps undocuemented ones that are bugged, but its going to take outside testing to alert Fdev and then it will take their internal crews some time to figure out

There does seem to be an undocumented change/bug in faction state transition. Please keep examples coming in here that can be compiled for a bug report. Fdev have not been overly responsive in dealing with bgs reports so far in 2.2

I think that's what happened. Our members were off doing CGs and other things and the influence slipped. We had recently had a double expansion, like what Gemai described, so weren't too worried whether this one worked or not. I'm hoping we don't get another one with the latest tick, as things are getting difficult to control.

It would be nice if there was an easy way of limiting the growth in a system. I usually just do a few missions for the other factions, but RP wise this feels wrong.

Interestingly, a system I am in but don't run, has the controlling faction in Expansion but has just dropped to 56%, so I have a possible confirmation of the above theory, when the state ends of course.

Expanded into a system where the minor faction was expansion pending, we drove them down to 10-20% by the time expansion ended, it was still successful

I wasn't paying enough attention at the time. I'll ask our leader next time I see him online to see if he remembers what happened.
But we certainly didn't expand into the most likely two candidate systems, and there was no news.

ToC was always a piracy faction.

The ToC gaming community has nothing to do with Piracy... Please stop making up lies about us yet again!

an interesting data point perhaps?

"
It should be noted that there is (or was unless Frontier have patched it) a BGS bug affecting influence unduly, causing rapid percentile drops beyond the normal thresholds set in the BGS, This was caused by multiple missions to convey rebels to systems engaged in war, affecting the receiving minor faction. Now if it's not been fixed, this can cause severe issues in a system temporarily, as the difference in influence should be a lot less than what was actually happening. We have noted for example, influence drops in excess of 50% in a day in other sectors! "

You are an ANARCHY faction ingame. Which by the way have an increased chance of spawning pirates and interdictions and are without law... and sell slaves.
But the point of the discussion was that ToC is NOT communist as in the game currently due to the Subjection bug.

hi guys i have a question

what its the influence level neeeded to expand a faction to another Sistem..... actually we have our minor in 82 % but still we are in Booom and no signs of expansion.... ( we have like 10 systems near 8 lys) so we dont know what to do

Given the lack of a BGS manual, and the general uncertainty around mechanics we have a responsibility to the community not to engage in battles on this thread other than those about what the mechanics are!
