I think you meant 35% instead of 30%, since when you added 1% you got 36%. But otherwise I think you are right.2% (=2 points), 18% (=18 points), 20% (=20 points), 25% (=25 points), 30% (=30 points)
Total: 100% (100 points)

Hoping people can look over my maths and tell me if I'm right or wrong...
The theory of influence changes as I understand it is something like this.
- A system has a certain number of "points" in it's bucket, spread proportionally amongst factions.
- Positive actions add points to those factions buckets.
- At the tick, the points are tallied, normalised to the system norm, and then influences calculated based off this.
So lets assume an easy maths scenario where 1% = 1 point.
You've got 5 factions with influence:
2% (=2 points), 18% (=18 points), 20% (=20 points), 25% (=25 points), 30% (=30 points)
Total: 100% (100 points)
Now, lets say someone does 1 "point" for each faction, e.g lets say someone does 1 courier mission for each faction for inf+.
We get :
3, 19, 21, 26, 36 (total 105); and normalising to influence %s we get:
2.9%, 18.1%, 20% (exactly), 24.8%, 34.3% =~ 100% (not exactly, but read on)
This is why we have things like:
- Diminishing returns (equal effort put in, but the biggest faction "lost" and the smallest faction "won")
- The old "influence decay" concept which is a byproduct of the resultant total not quite being 100%
- etc.
None of this is new... but I just wanted to get some verification that my maths and understanding is right, especially regarding the equal effort causing inequal results.
I think you meant 35% instead of 30%, since when you added 1% you got 36%. But otherwise I think you are right.
no, the election will break the expansion.
if the expansion goes active first, the election will end it and you will expand ("cutting it short")
if the election goes active first, the expansion will stay pending and not tick on, till the election ended.
if election and expansion would go active on the same tick, the election will happen and the expansion will disappear (fdev claims, that's a feature, not a bug).
:S:S Now do not forget you are speaking to someone as high as a kite on very powerful medication.
We have now gone into a state of 'Expansion'
This, as we know usually takes the full pesky five days so.....
Are you suggesting that the 'Pending Election' will cut short the expansion period?
Will the expansion period take its full course?![]()
Apologies for being so fik, but.....
Pending Election will not do anything, but when the Election actually starts, the Expansion will finish.
If you dont currently have Election Pending, it might be a bit late to make a lot difference unless you can get equalized today.
We are now in the second day of expansion and the fourth day of pending election. Are you saying that we will see the expansion end tomorrow when the pending election has gone to five days?? If this does happen then what a quick way of ending these long expansion periods.
We are a small but very happy group that tend to stick together through fik and fin...
We have sadly been pestered for the last few months by someone that enjoys trying to undermine our main system. They will periodically come into open, but generally stick to a private group.
I have tried extremely hard to talk to this unknown individual but I fear this adds fuel to their enjoyment. they send me a friend request which I readily except, then the next day for absolutely no reason I will see I have been 'de-frocked'
It is very glib when we tell each other to ignore this individual but when they very slooooowly fly through our letter box a an extremely low speed trading with a minor faction in our main base, then this is really taking the urine!!
They are 'Clean' and not in any faction and I fear my patience is wearing very thin.
How would folks deal with the annoying pest as they are indeed trying to influence our game playing?

ignore them. if you can't, block them![]()
any pvp is just wasting time you can spend pve with your group working for your goals.
those others are just noise as any random traffic. they will stop if they see they can't get anywhere, and get no attention.
Hi Marra,
We are a VERY small group but are about to get our twentieth system. We are indeed a bunch of players that do indeed stick together, work together and fight togetherThis player is not a threat, NOR a danger. they are just a frustrating pest.
Remember that from the other player's side they may be bravely and single-handedly trying to resist your 'evil' subjugation of their chosen Faction.
Freedom Fighters / Terrorists sort of thing.
At which point, it becomes more of an RP thing than a minor irritation, which is much more fun for all involved!
I agree, it is part of the fun and challenge that comes with holding territory![]()
Tonight I got behind his type 9 and quite literally pushed the ship into hyperspace. The hull of the type 9Sounds like we have a lot in common
Your pest's morale will eventually break - there is only so much of getting absolutely nowhere that they will be able to take.
Excellent point, thanks for bringing it up and it is something I will now definitely take onboard, thank youRemember that from the other player's side they may be bravely and single-handedly trying to resist your 'evil' subjugation of their chosen Faction.
Freedom Fighters / Terrorists sort of thing.
It's just a challenge that comes with seeking power and control over Systems. Good luck.
A brave prediction and I will keep you informed. Ending an expansion early will be brilliant. Pity the election will not be a war... Who was it that said 'War, war is better than Jaw, jaw? (Dyslexic quotation)exactly this is what gonna happen. as said in my previous post: a conflict can cut an expansion short, if timed right.
Nicely done, sir!about to get our twentieth system. We are indeed a bunch of players that do indeed stick together, work together and fight togetherThis player is not a threat, NOR a danger. they are just a frustrating pest.
I second the prediction. I'd point out, though, that the flipside is that you won't be able to support the expansion through combat while the election is active. If you have a preponderance of traders and mission runners in your group, you won't notice a difference.A brave prediction and I will keep you informed. Ending an expansion early will be brilliant.
