A note to the half-wits in game using Seig as a codeword...

It actually translates as 'Hail Victory' but the point is its associations in the past and, in some contexts, the present. It's a criminal offence to use it in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for starters and all it takes is for one very annoyed German to complain and all hell will break loose... Additionally, it's the thin end of the wedge... if it becomes acceptable then the lines become very blurred and troubled... look at the terminology applied to some ethnicities where some are 'owning' a particular word which now causes all sorts of trouble because some people seeing it being used see it as being acceptable when there are still many people out there who find it objectionable and distressing... it's all about context and about sensitivity; remember that... People do still get offended by these terms and there are very good reasons for that being the case....

I can only half agree with your post.
This is a difficult thing. On the one side i fully understand people feeling annoyed in real life.
In this specific "Siege Crusaders" context they just do some good role playing. If people feel annoyed by a small group trying to add player generated content i can only shake my head.
We simply don't live in the past anymore. What happened in the past had happened and cannot be reversed, unfortunately.
But referring to a behaviour coming from a game and taking it personally and projecting it into the real life is what i don't understand and maybe i never will.

However, you've made a fair point but i have a different opinion about it.

Hail the emperor. Never surrender !

Nah.. I don't answer something as obvious.

I've never used these words, not singular or together, but there's none of the above in saying the word "Sieg" or "Heil", nor saying them together. It may be a reference to Hitler's Germany, or the people using it just want to use it. They're words, if you're offended by this, you need harden up.
Do you get mad when people don't use the current politically correct terms for things as well. People are babies these days. If it doesn't affect you, just don't worry about it.

Yes, there is something wrong here. It's about the context. "Hail" in English may refer to many things whereas "Heil" in German really only has one connotation and that's Hitler and N.a.z.i Germany.

Hail, Heil, is a greeting. That's all. Are you going to ban all languages except english in-game? I think not. Good luck with this fight, because it won't go anywhere.

Neg. They're a bunch of Warhammer 40k kids as can be seen from their 4chan posts.

Aye, their emperor is called "Braben" and has nothing to do with the empiric emperor ingame itself.
Though they claim that their emperor is the true leader of the empire.

Just like i mentioned, some good roleplaying outsider clan.

Well there is nothing wrong hailing the W40k Emperor... and roleplaying it...

I'm getting a sense the OP got seriously carried away misunderstanding context...

Especially if he thought references to Kaiser or Wilhem, as he put it himself, could in any way be associated with the illegal, offensive, and disgusting salute.

Good point. I agree on that.

I think that too. OP is just misunderstanding it and there are many peeps on here like the OP who simply misunderstnd it.

A little history lesson for you in these rather strained times.... http://goo.gl/5JHsHa

The use of Sieg and the reply Heil is almost as distasteful and objectionable as the use of guns by people 'defending' religion as shown in Paris in recent days... It is also a criminal offence to use the salute in Germany, Austria, Sweden and several other countries.

The two words were used in 1930's/40's Germany to hail members of the National Socialist German Worker's Party in Germany. This in itself is enough to make it objectionable to many who believe in freedom and democracy and rights for everyone... Let's not forget the reasons we are able to say what we wish and do what we wish (within the bounds of taste, decency, legality and reason) and what went before that firstly reminded us of these basic freedoms and the pain that many people went through to earn those freedoms for us and those in the future.

I sincerely hope that anyone who sees this behaviour in-game screenies it and posts the screenshot to Frontier as an example of a breach of reasonable and decent behaviour. Go on... root these half-wits out people, this behaviour has no place in any decent society...

PS : It's dead obvious what the response to the challenge will be so you're not really making yourselves very 'secret' to be honest...

PPS : They've changed it to Kaiser apparently... Just as bad and just as obvious! Bill.... (or Wilhelm)

The countersign was always Kaiser. Furthermore, we anticipated that clueless people would get the countersign wrong and interpret it as you have. So thanks for proving us right. I guess it made a decent challenge/counterchallenge afterall.

Additionally, there's nothing wrong or hateful associated with saying "sieg kaiser." Basically just means "victory emperor," referring primarily to the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (HRE). Nothing to get upset about. This thread is ridiculous.

But "Sieg" is a totaly normal German word. I used it quit a lot in my Life, as in "Sieg für Federer!"/"Victory for Federer" or anything like that. It can sometimes Pop up in the Headline of a Newspaper, because there was some Victory and because its a perfectly normal German Word.

It really has nothing to do with Hitler, its just a normal German Word. He used it, and Nazis will still use it but that goes for so many German words. He talked quit a lot.

It may bother you OP and others of the libertarian trendy persuasion, who made you the free speech police.?

And I am quite dismayed how PC everything got. I remember playing Starcraft in the early 2000s... the things you saw in the chats! And on the user generated maps! Today the company would have been probably sued for allowing such anarchy. Ah, Elite.. didn't expect the user base would be so sensitive.

The swastika is a very ancient symbol and can be found on many ancient Hindu, Tibetan and Buddhist temples, artwork and idols.

The true meaning of this symbol has been lost to the western world but the symbol is the very opposite of what we believe it to be.

It's an upside down world so often...

Seriously?

Do you guys have nothing better to concern yourselves with?

The only people at risk of being offended are the professional victims. There will be people playing this game hanging from kids through to elderly, and words & phrases will have differing significance to all of them.

The very fact that such a salute is a crime on several countries is all the more reason to use it, and trivialise it. Especially given recent events.

Partially true, the symbol you're referring to is a mirror image of the N. swastika. A subtle difference, but it makes all the difference in the world now.

Wasn't me... someone else told me... not been in game for a while for various reasons as it happens :p

I'm Jewish. Family emigrated to the good ol' USA to escape rampant anti-semitism. Do I find it offensive, a little bit, sure. I wouldn't have paid any attention to it, aside from responding to this post.

The Shoah was a disgusting, horrid thing, so far off the scale of evil that there are no words to describe it. We should never forget, or trivialize the suffering that occurred there.

I highly doubt that the people using it in this instance are legitimately anti-semitic. Their (self admitted) motivation is simply to get a rise out of people, and well...it's happened.
