Since the developers are looking at player feedback regarding giving steam keys to players who already bought the game ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=133500&page=13&p=2044428&viewfull=1#post2044428 ), a poll would be useful.

I personally love using Steam, and would like to have Elite in Steam. So, my answer to my own poll is yes, I would like to receive a Steam key, since I purchased the game.

The poll has two options: "Yes" and "Don't care"


Edit: Great news! On 28'th of May we will get the option to generate a Steam key.

Thank you to everyone who voted on the poll! I am sure this thread, and your votes (over 2000!), made a difference

I had actually held off buying Elite, hoping it would come out on Steam. I just bought it last Friday.

I voted "Don't care". While I love Steam I won't be putting my copy of Elite onto it as I don't run Steam while playing Elite; I don't want another game downloading updates while I am trying to play.

EDIT: For the love of all spiders everywhere, please read the rest of my posts in this thread before pointing out that you can disable downloads while playing.

It is obvious what the poll will read with all the cheapskates expecting to get key.

Buy another copy and continue to show your support for the game, or be happy with what you already have.

Don't care, but don't want to stand in the way of it either.

I just don't want Steam forced upon me, other than that i'm fine with it.

can't be that hard to do. also they would take load off their download servers on a new release, get an in game chat and so on. i think steam offers even cheat protection.

(the option "switch completely to steam and take down the own launcher" is missing, i would vote for that :) )

I added it as a 'non-steam' game yonks ago. Can still take/post screenshots. Can still interact with steam whilst playing. Really don't see the *need* that people are making out.

Oh no! I'm not against Steam, not at all in fact, but for me I want Elite with it's own launcher and with no chance of Steam DL other stuff in the background. I'm not really into steam trophies though, but I can imagine those that do collect them would really want to be rewarded for their many hours in this game!

So don't use your key. Doesn't mean you need to whine about other people asking for keys. It's an entirely reasonable request that wouldn't take Frontier much time or effort to fulfill.

THIS. If everyone moves to Steam then we get VAC and Frontier can worry about game features instead of the cheater arms race. Let Valve worry about anti-cheating, they have way more experience with it anyway.

Well I want a key , but I will be buying elite dangerous on steam either way as FD need more of my cash. I might even buy it for all my friends to make shure I spread the good news
