There should be some kind of migration to Steam option, but I don't see how they can just hand out Steam keys. What's to stop people just selling them?

The keys they give out to existing customers should assume you already have a username and password to be used with the Elite launcher, rather than asking you to register a new account. That would be the easiest way to go about it, anyway.

Personally, I would like this because Steam is where I have every digitally released game I own (except Elite: Dangerous). Having one game not where the rest are can be a PITA.
Not having that one game there means when I take a break, it's easier to forget about.

Voted No. Actually I voted "Don't Care" as there wasn't an option for "No".

can't be that hard to do. also they would take load off their download servers on a new release, get an in game chat and so on. i think steam offers even cheat protection.

(the option "switch completely to steam and take down the own launcher" is missing, i would vote for that :) )

Has it been confirmed that E: D will update from Steam's CDN? Or is it just the launcher?

Steam is like my personal game center. Steam has a wide community and additional functional around it. Like easy acces to your games, videos, streams, discussions, guides, achievements, trade cards. Finally I just got used to it. So now, when I bought the game, but do not have the opportunity to add it to the Steam with full functionality, I have the feeling that I was deceived. I really hope that it gets better.

Hell yes I want a Steam key. 95% of my 300+ PC games are on Steam and that's where I'd like to keep them. Besides E: D and Star Citizen all of my currently installed games are via Steam. And I don't want to sound rude but, I paid $160 for this game, so excuse me (and I hate to say it) but I think I should be entitled to a Steam key. In fact, why is it even a question of do we want one? Just post them to our E: D accounts and let those that want to redeem their game on Steam do so. It's not going to cost Frontier or Valve a dime; in fact Valve encourages these migrations when existing games debut on Steam.

It's actually somewhat annoying that we have to "ask" FD to do this for us. I find it a little bit rude they didn't think in advance that their existing playerbase/alpha/beta backers would want a complimentary key, as the game WAS NOT available on Steam until now.

I want to see my hours played, I want to upload screenshots and videos to the *correct* hub (as "adding a non-steam game won't post the SS's and vids to the actual hub), I want "official" support of streaming, I want to write a review, I want achievements (if there are to be any). Why should I not get all the features a new steam-purchaser gets @ $59.99, while my version doesn't support these features yet cost $159.99?

If you don't care about Steam features, then fine - don't redeem your key. But don't be a d**k and act like there is no personal advantage to some of us to have the game on Steam.

I voted "Don't care". While I love Steam I won't be putting my copy of Elite onto it as I don't run Steam while playing Elite; I don't want another game downloading updates while I am trying to play.

Um...you know you can disable automatic game updates while in-game, don't ya? (obviously not lol)

no, not confirmed (and i'm not well informed). i was just guessing what would make sense. i think most of us are frustrated about download speed on release day. some of us are worried about cheats. (from the poll) i guess 3/4 of us are already steam users.

so FD may save on IT-costs for download servers and benefit from functionality steam provides. FD may not make it exclusive, as they would probably loose the xbox users (i would be ok with that) :)

There's no "No" option so I didn't vote. Seems like a thing that could be abused too easily so I'd rather not have that at all.

It's the "throwing money at my screen" era, Xzi...it's to be expected.

it is also an era where you do not expect something for nothing.

Thankfully some learn to adapt with time without throwing money at triple A garbage they call games today.

Games like Elite Dangerous wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my "throwing money at the screen".

I want one. So I voted that way. However, I do not think it is necessary that FD provide it. Just a nice to have.

Would absolutely love to get a Steam Key for Elite Dangerous. 99% of the games I own are on Steam. I understand why other might not necessarily need it, but I would definitely prefer it as I'd like to keep my game library all in one place (and that also keeps my desktop clean and tidy). So yes, Steam Keys please!

I want one, but I understand that Frontier has to come up with a foolproof way to not accidentally give away a free copy.
