A way to get Thousands of Players on Elite

Whenever I see an ad, I wonder what's wrong with the product. And then I try to avoid it. Yeah, I know that this is not how the world works, but that's how I see it.

I think "investing in" / supporting youtubers would be better. Youtubers (or twitch-people) that actually play the game, and not just demo it once or twice. I came back to E:D just because Jingles started playing it during the UK lockdown, and I bet there are thousands of "new" (or returning) players just because of Jingles. (Then I discovered Drew Wagar, his channel amazing (though the videos might be too long for some). If you won't sponsor him, at least hire him to do ingame lore-content!)

PhlyDaily probably brings in 3x the amount of players to War Thunder, than what Gaijin manage to draw in with their ads. And I'm sure there are more examples like that.

I also had a point about the importance of a community, but lost it when I went away to grab a new beer.

Another thing, simming is niche. I would say that space Sims are highly niche, but I've got to credit SC for maintaining a high population, interest, and excitement while at the same time money gouging them while still being a perpetual alpha.

There better be some big and positive changes even before Odyssey drops and not launching with VR is... Blah.

Dear FDev,

I have played your game for many years and sitting at 5000 + hours into your game Elite Dangerous, Triple Elite, a couple gold medals on leaderboards, yata yata yata...
Point is I play the sh*t out of your game because i genuinely love this game.

BUT

I notice your lack of marketing keeps the world ignorant to the general masses of the gaming community.
When I saw the Avengers film in movie theathers do you know what I saw before the movie started?
A video game commercial. A 30 second commercial for WARFRAME, one of the top 5 most played Free-2-Play games in the world. Do you know why they have such a huge player base?
They MARKET.

I've wondered why so many times why can't FDEV do the same?
I know you guys don't put alot of money back into Elite and it shows but hear me out please.
Throw some of that ARX $$ you guys make into Commercials.

If you make a brilliant commercial, 30 Seconds.
Dropping that commercial at the start of a SPACE film playing in movie theaters, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and other Online streaming outlets consumers use you will see a HUGE spike in players coming to you game.

If i log into Prime Video to watch "The Expanse" and see a 10 second Clip of Elite Dangerous, i might click it because it looks like the show....
If i go on Youtube to click on a video that has anything to do with outer space, flying, shooting and I see a clip of Elite Dangerous I just might click it.
If go on Hulu to watch Star Trek, which has ads by the way and I se an elite Dangerous ad, I might click it.

Point I am making here is that there is an untapped market you guys are neglecting.
Your great at making a brilliant title but your marketing is severely lacking.
Ya you guys broke 19,000 players on Steam with Fleet Carriers but those numbers are still pathetic, im sorry but its true. Dead By daylight has well over 75,000 players a Day on Steam because why? THEY MARKET.
They have commercials, Ads everywhere.

Business FACT
MARKETING is 50% of the LIFE BLOOD of a business to strive.

So why on gods green earth have you guys not done the same thing?
Do you guys not want more money?
Do you guys not want a bigger player base to spend money on Arx to buy all the cosmetics? Hell. me alone Ive spent wll over 1000$ on Ship kits and skins alone....
Do you know how many players like me are out that will do the same if they knew your game existed?

With Odyssey around the corner you could snatch up all of the fans of Flight Sims, Space Sims, Shooters like Halo, Warframe, Star Citizen, Call of Duty, Battlefield and so forth...

In conclusion. You guys need to step it up, pretend like you want to make money.
The more $$ your game makes your company, the more you can put in your company, into Elite's developement and the development of other games.

FOOD for thought.
From one of your fans of the game you guys made.

One thinks the best way to get so many players onto Elite is to freeze them in a giant freezer and toss the copy of Elite on top of them before you close the lid, what what.

When they are all meat popsicles, you simply tip the freezer upside down and remove it, what

Job done.

Toodly pipsky old beans

Agreed, beautiful game, not enough advertising. Don’t listen to the naysayers, their marinade is too salty due to being kicked out of decision making process.

Frontier ran ads for Elite Dangerous in the UK and North America before screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I can't imagine how much that must've cost, but I'm guessing they felt it didn't pay off.

In conclusion. You guys need to step it up, pretend like you want to make money.

They do. That's why earning credits with the 'economy' is so easy which allows players to buy ships more quickly and buy paint jobs and ship kits more often via Arx.

There's much smarter ways to advertise a game like this these days (compared to Cinema), and much better ways to target potential buyers.

Also y'know the general rule in business is half your budget should be marketing. Not sure what kind of budget Elite still has at this point, but my guess is that half of whatever it is, doesn't buy that much advertising. They'll probably do some kind of push when Odyssey launches.

Why don’t they just offer a £25,000 reward for finding Raxxla?

It would get stacks of new players and confirm that it is possible to find it.

It would also bring new chat to the forum that would hopefully be about cooperation rather than adversarial topics we fight over and we could, could even stop talking about mining for a day or two. (This is by far the most optimistic and unrealistic part of the whole suggestion, obviously).

FPS is going to bring alot of new players to the game.. they must seen the interest on the topic just from the past few weeks.
If you like fps or not it's going too be a big deal for Ed.

I'm old thus remember when cable first started. It's main point was NO ADEVERTISMENT'S. Once cable became a national thing, and they had a sufficient customer base, the ads started appearing and today a one hour movie will be an hour and a half due to the traditional advertisements. Just because one may see an ad in-regards to the cable company specifically, it's only because they haven't sold that particular space to anyone as yet. I mean, if one has to be a subscriber of a cable company, who are they trying to attract when they are basically tooting their own horn. Why doesn't DISH for example, have ads on anything but their own network of subscriber's? Talk about preaching to the choir.
