A worthless thread I admit, but important nonetheless

Ian Dury and the Blockheads....Reasons to be cheerful E.D.

It was the Chow Mein pot noodle that saw me through college, I think it had something to do with the Mono-Sodium Glutamate, which apparently has a bad rep these days.

I too jumped straight from 1983 Elite on the BBC Micro to todays Elite Dangerous on XBox without experiencing the intermediate chapters (or doining the training missions), and the feel of that first transit through the letterbox brought a load of memories flooding back, and then a sense of wonder, as the station interior was layed out in front of me, as this wasn't in the original.

What I love about this game is how true it is to the original, It's the first game I've invested significant time to since those early years, I now have over 1000 hours invested and presently do not play anything else. It's the first online game I've played and truly enjoyed. Meeting and winging up with casuals in a Haz RES for CG's , Hosting Multi-Crew, being 'Properly' Pirated, all great features in my book and I'm looking forward to 'Beyond' content.

The sound in E.D. is just awsome have recently installed Dolby Atmos for XBox, (available on PC too) and would highly recommend it .

I love the game and think it's amazing. When you get mud on your favorite expensive suit, it tends to be much more of a big deal than when you get mud on your average pair of work jeans. This is why many of us do get extra frustrated when we encounter bugs or things as we perceive as design flaws in our otherwise "perfect suit".

Negative threads on this sub-forum frequently run into 30+ pages. Depressing!!

If you have just a few seconds to spare, post ANY nice comment here to create a happy mega thread to show the majority play and like the game.

Me first... Played ED for about 2 years now. Not saying its perfect, but love it, yep really :)

Agreed.
2 1/2 years now. Plus being an old '85'er and Oolite tiding me over since.
Two careers. Still having fun and still finding new things to do.
Taken a couple 2-week breaks when things felt grindy - looking at you Superpower ranking system.
Love the game. Wish I had more time for it. Stupid real life.

This is the best thread. Love the game, been playing for a few years and highly likely to carry on for a few more.

I think there is something about the scope and scale that fires the imagination in ways other games don't. But that also makes it harder to fill with content that satisfies everyone's diverse wants.

Aps.

The voice acting in the logs of such things as the INRA bases and generation ships is extremely good. Overall the sound and visuals in the game are great. The flight model is fun

You all wrote awesome things about the game on which I totally agree, especially the feeling of really being out there, piloting a spaceship. So I add something different that I noticed since I play Elite: in a way, when I read about space, everything is now somehow familiar, not just because I know more about it, but because I've experienced it. Even if I just watch the night sky, it kinda isn't the same as before.
I can almost see the orbit lines... :)

it's really fun, i'm having a blast already and it's not even out of beta yet. of course i meant naval action legends!
plus i'm eager to get my new crosswind pedals and virpil stick and throttle ... of course for il2 sturmovik.

elite? well, yeah, okay, will check back in a few months.

Ditto that! Every time I read something in space-related news, I think, "Ok, time to go visit this system." Assuming it's not too far away, mind you.

It's also fun to point up at the Pleiades in the night sky (IRL) and tell your friends, "That's where the Thargoids live. I've been there and seen them with my own eyes!"

This is the one big advantage these forums have over Reddit - you can be positive and not be downvoted into the depths of hell. Yesterday I had an interesting exchange with a guy who (in a overwhelmingly negative thread) claimed that my offering a counter-argument to what he was saying was restricting his right to complain about a 'defective' product .... which he was forced to play because of the lack of alternatives on the market. Happily I got -20 votes so the whole exchange was nuked out of visibility.

I think it's comforting to remember that people are passionate when they care about a product - apathy is the real death knell. That makes it easier to endure a dozen ram-o-scan posts each week, a hundred 'where is my fantasy feature' rants, and a few dozen pages about how the game is "literally unplayable" because the sound fades for 1 second as you pass through the mailslot. Although admittedly I'm not a dev and if I were I'm sure I'd have days when I'd just want to pack it in!

I dare say a lot of the rants come from people not really getting that this game didn't exactly hit the ball out of the park in terms of sales and it has no revenue model that is firm enough to be ambitious with.

I bought the Xbox One the day ED was released for it, been playing since GPP.
ED is my favorite game of all times and a fantastic successor of the 1984 version which I also played.

It looks fantastic, sounds great and very often when I'm gutted about an imperfection I remind myself how far ED has already come, how grand it is.
400 billion stars, and you can go to each one of them.
With the new textures coming for planets exploration will become a blast again, at least for me.

In game purchases are spot on, no gameplay effecting items, no pay to win, just cosmetic, although some items are a bit below par quality wise.
This is so unlike the "other game" where everything revolves around your wallet.

The things that I like outnumber the things I don't like by far and ED will probably remain my nr1 game for a long time to come.

FD, you're doing just fine!!

glad that other game isn't on our peasant games machine, it would be very expensive for a tech demo . Can I get a hussar for Lord Braben and the game of joy he brought to us be yer Pc master race or console peasants

Been fascinated with Elite since the 1984 release. Got exactly what I wanted in this one.

Sure it can always use improvement and enhancement but there's really nothing out there like it.
