Abandon your attempt to kill pirate

I'm sorry but apparently it is not a bug. It was written this way. For some unfathomable reason they thought this would be entertaining.

Have they offered any sort of explanation as to why they thought this was either logical or fun?

Tried this type of mission today for the first time and ended up here.

I found that I couldnt finish the original mission, as the systems to go pirate hunting were both empty and didnt even have a nav beacon. After 15 Minutes all I got was the clean trader with his undesired offer (inside USS), one SSS with two opposing wings of FDL/Vultures (both clean after Killscan) shooting each other, and one WSS (toxic waste).

I abandoned the mission and cashed in the reward. Both times I lost ranking with the fraction, I tried to come to better termes with.

This type of mission was an unpleasant experience.
