About that double-engineered FSD reward for the CG...

Then its tough, really. I can't play because I have a nerve injury but I'm not bent out of shape about it (or that I missed the last one, or the themed paints that get given away).

Unless you are running a competition (where you can insist these modules are banned) then the effect is marginal.

To me its like the reverb lasers ATR ships have- I view these special modules as things some players have managed to get.
As I said, this discussion has been dealt in every mmo there is and as a result, two mmo categories emerged;
-Either you offer advantages through REAL money, openly declare that you have a pay to win game model, and expect to have the corresponding player base, or..
-Offer only cosmetics, either with money, or as gameplay rewards, that only act as bragging rights, and do not offer a permanent advantage whatsoever.

Im pretty sure FDev is not living under a rock, and that they are not trying to invent a third mmo category here.
Thus I strongly believe that they plan to offer this kind of engineering in the near future, through other means such as rare special missions etc. and not lock players out forever.

I'm pretty sure I don't, or do I need to start coming to meetings more often?
Oops my mistake it's another Ia(i)n @iain666

About the grandfathered drives, I agree that there are lighter FSDs than possible now, it's just that the three good rolls needed made it extremely unlikely that a better drive was achieved. The best results in that old post your jump range thread weren't as good anyway.

I'm not really having a moan about the drives, I'm more frustrated that I'll need to ban them as they're time limited.

Maybe they could sell them in permit-locked Sirius afterwards for lots of credits?

Or these are just special toys to attract players. As to your opinion, only time will tell.

It's certainly attracting me back to CGs for the first time since they returned (I know it's only been a couple of weeks).

I might need to ban those drives from the A* Challenge, but I've always tried to keep The Nomad at the forefront of FSD technology. 😆

I don't agree with time limited modules like this, but of course given I'm around I'm going to get it 😈

I'm wondering if Odyssey's engineering is going to include double engineered modules!?!

Though there are some legacy non-FSD modules with a greater weight reduction than possible with current blueprints.
Uh huh, and my lightweight combat courier has 4 of them.

But even with it banned, it's still a pain, because the A* Challenge record is also the semi-official record for speedruns to the core, but now anyone making a run with the new module that legitimately and without cheating the game in any way sets a new record for the run will need to be disqualified.

I know of 2 legacy engineered modules involved in record breaking
  • the "lightweight" Anaconda legacy engineered sensors - this sets the absolute jumping range for a single jump
  • and a second module had a lower than what's normally attainable power consumption due to some legacy engineering and was also used to get the record for, i dont know... farthest distance to Sol or longest time in supercruise or a combination of the two - because less power means less fuel / hour consumption... you get the idea.

But yea, the new FSD could make some nice numbers happening for Asp-X, Phantoms and DBX jump ranges.

I'm leaving the game on account of this, Tencent, the Epic announcement and the FSS. Mostly the FSS, to be sure. One sad space-whale down. It's been a long ride since the Kickstarter. I've had fun with the game and found a lot of things out and been everywhere, and by mere statistics I'm one of the most accomplished/idiotic players in the world, but as I've never made YouTube videos in a silly voice I've someone stayed under FD's radar all this time. ;)

"kthxbai i can hav ur stuf" - sure, you already use it, stuff derived from my code etc. is in a bunch of 3rd party sites. :p

Damn. I'm sad to hear this, although I certainly understand why. Well, I hope I'll still see you on Discord from time to time. Thanks for all your help to everyone, and have fun with whatever comes next!

I guess this means that a commander could get a total of two of these drives if they made it to the top 25% in both CGs?

Also, I wonder if an experimental effect like Mass Manager will or even can be applied?

I have a transport python I use for dumping minerals/metals on stations with only small/medium landing pads that would benefit greatly from this double engineered FSD. Long range for obvious reasons is good, but faster boot is good to for a python trader with a high rank since I'll still get T10's and conda pirates coming for my goods!

As others have said, this is sad to hear. Who is going to WorkStuffOut[tm] now?

Maybe Odyssey will tempt you back?

Very sorry to see you go Jackie. As others have said, hope to hear from you on Discord occasionally.

The same also sort of applies to the 65K 48 hour challenge that @Ian Doncaster - oops @iain666 - curates, at the moment the record for that run is held by an engineered Anaconda available to all. A day after this reward drops it might well be held by an Asp-X or DBX build available to only a select group of Cmdrs.

- EDIT: linked to the wrong Ia(i)n.

Meh, can't say I'm all that fussed. We've got 17 entries so far, it's not as hotly contested as Buckyballing to Sgr A*. Getting any sub-6 hour time to BP is an achievement and if someone with an FSD you can't access beats you by a few minutes then you can call yourself the moral victor if you want.

Just being on that list is enough of an achievement without worrying about your position, IMO. It's not even sorted by time - other than roughly and accidentally because it's in chronological order of addition.

Now that I see that both CGs are on the same megaship, I'm doubting that we would get to FSDs if we completed both CGs. Would like to be proven wrong on that!
