About that double-engineered FSD reward for the CG...

It's how long it takes to come back on after it's turned off.

This.

Try it next time y’all sign on. Manually power down your FSD via your right panel. Power it back on. Notice that it takes a moment to come online, instead of being instantly powered on like other modules.

That is what is affected by fast boot.

Well, 70+ ly jump range for a decently equipped Phantom or AspX or DBX explorers. Decently equipped as in with decent shields and all the tools needed for exploration
Or about 60 ly jump range Krait Mk2 with all the toys to keep the space madness away, like SLF, size 4 Srv Hangar, decent shields and so on...

That's really nice

If I read correctly, fdev is giving an improved range FSD to 25% of players, which unbalances further for some that haven't acces the engineers. Isn't it enough that gankers stop new players to go to engineers? If my ASP can go 60ly and for a player involved in CG has same ASP with over 80ly, I would be upset too. Why unfairness?
Sure, 60ly is ok for me to jump, but knowing that someone has 80ly on SAME ship, makes me upset, because I couldn't got involved in CG and still won't have access to the new module or engineering feature in the future.
Get it?
If I was missing from the game, but returned after 6 months, I could still go to Felicity and get my FSD to max (+ Guardians), without being an active player. This is the point, I can't play 24/7 Elite to be involved in a CG, but still could max the FSD by providing some materials easy to find, even after 6-12 months of pausing the game.
But this, I can't improve my FSD further, because I wasn't active in the CG and there will be 25% of players that had more time than me and will have more range on a SAME ship. This is frustrating, I don't know about other players, but knowing that other players have 20ly range more on a same engineered ship like mine (and I can't do that anymore) makes me angry because developers don't care about all players. This is unfairness and game unbalanced.
20ly more counts when needed. Not for exploring, for that, I don't care, but for taxiing or material grinding. Jumping 2000ly in a 80 ly ship is 13 less jumps and when I am in a hurry, it can make a difference.

Oh well, forget all I wrote, there is nothing that I can do, but stop complaining and further playing :))) I still enjoy a beautiful game. More than a beautiful game. Much more.

This special FSD reward is available for the 75% of the last CG participants. Its 5726 players (including the duplicants). Yes, some missed it, true. As other rewards before, like special decals.

Your Asp Scout can go 60 ly jump range, yes, a moderately engineered Asp Explorer can jump 68 ly. After you install this special FSD you gain ~5-6 ly more jump range. There is no 80 ly for an AspX. The best you can get is 78.67 ly, but its a just skeleton with end-engineerings on the core modules - practically unusable for playing. So the difference is not so large - dont believe anyone who told that 20 ly difference.

Additionally (its just guessing ofc), but this small difference will stay in the game for a few months only, as Odyssey - probably - will allow double blueprinted modules.

...but only for the two five thousand players who were lucky enough to be able to get one. (Before anybody mentions sour grapes: I did get one as well.)
It wasn't a matter of luck. I worked hard for that part, about 22 hours in total (no FC) to reach the 25%. I am happy to have achieved my goal and I don´t begrudge everyone else the special FSD. But to be honest, it feels even better to be a member of a special (small) group, precisely because that means being an elite. Perhaps FD should go back to decals and paintjobs as reward.

I wrote "five thousand players who were lucky enough", not that it was a matter of luck. There's quite a difference.

To be able to have a shot in the CG for the top 25% - and now, as it turns out, the top 75% - you had to be lucky enough to be able to play during the four days that the event was going. Plus you also had to be lucky enough to be in the bubble, or quick enough to get back there still in time to be able to compete.

There have been folks who could have put in just as much effort as we have, but couldn't play on this weekend for any reason. Unlucky. Me, as an explorer, I've been away from the bubble pretty much the past two years (only doing a month or so mining for a fleet carrier, which I took on a survey expedition and deployed on the DSSA after). As it happens, I just returned for a couple of weeks right around the time when this surprise CG reward came. That was lucky.

So, for us who got this reward, was it all luck? Of course not. Did luck play a role? Yes.

Anyway, yes, as you said, Frontier really should go back to decals and paintjobs - cosmetics - as exclusive rewards.

Very disappointed that I had no chance to participate in this CG, so I'll always have an inferior FSD. Agree with many others, FDev should go back to cosmetic rewards, or allow the same upgrade in other way(s).

I think that items like this will end up being available to everyone eventually, one way or another.

Totally agree that decals, paintjobs, etc are the best CG reward.

One of your size 5 FSDs is slightly inferior, all your other sized FSDs are inherently equal to anyone else’s.

Decals as rewards would at least reduce the server load on the forums.

I have time issues like everyone else. If you want the rewards you have to find a way to participate. If you can't participate you are just out of luck. That's the way it goes in Elite and in life. These unique rewards improve the CG experience. Going back to decals and paint jobs is kind of like giving everyone a participation trophy for playing a sport. . Get over it and stop the whining about it not being fair.

Of all the balance concerns the community has, people are worried about an FSD with a tiny bit more range lol.
Well that tiny jump increase can save hours on deep space exploration or number of jumps required. Agree on other part with balance.

Blaze your own trail and all that.
The way I play ED, Thrusters and FSD are the only modules that matter. Well, those and lightweight mods.
I don't care even a tiny little bit about weapon/shield/armour balance. ;)
I'm sure you do though. :)

I think Fdev just wants to experiment different models of reward and gather data about how the players react to those, maybe to help them calibrate future community events for Odyssey

Hopefully, we will have other opportunities to get this much wanted FSD range some day

Suppose that'd be helpful if you got hit by a thargoid shutdown field or something.

No, your ASP would get 65 instead of 60ly. Nice but not very much over the rest of them
Oh, only 5 ly? I thought that they extended the new engineering feature to 20ly more. For 5ly more I'm not even upset anymore :)
I can do 70ly in my Annie if I want, but I kinda like the ASP. Especially since a direct competitor cloned it and named "Nomad" :ROFLMAO:

It's 15% extra. Ships that already jump far benefit the most. On a DBX/AspX/Phantom explorer you will see 5-6ly more, on a Chieftain/Challenger/Crusader it'll be more like 2ly extra.
