About tonight's livestream....

Probably means that other Devs were making the tools, now Adam (and others - remember, he's been moved from working on something else, which is now done presumably!) are utilising them, and tweaking things based on internal tester feedback, and player feedback.

Doesn't sound like something to worry about.
Note that Adam Waite doesn't appear in the extensive development credits for either Jurassic World Evolution, nor Planet Coaster.

He does, however, appear regularly in livestreams and the forums discussing Elite Dangerous.

I'm gonna hazard a guess and say he works full-time on Elite Dangerous.

I honestly think that FD realized how high the expectations were for the Q4 exploration improvements and adjusted their goals accordingly.

One can only hope. I remain skeptical about the rest of Q4's exploration updates so far- as all we've really been told is there's some change to how scanning will work and the "probe" activity. Very vague so far, and they were intentionally vague in the Livestream.

My personal hope level will increase (or decrease) as more detail actually emerges.

Do you have a timestamp? I've checked through the youtube-generated transcript of the livestream and "weeks" only appears twice:

Perhaps you heard something different to what you've written in the OP, as in paraphrased? I timestamp would be helpful, thanks :)

Stuart, the impression given was that Adam has just stepped into leading this aspect of Q4 recently. "Weeks" may not have been said, but it was also the impression I was given.

^ This. Although some insist that Frontier's development staff is "X amount of people who all get sent back and forth between projects in the offices", I have to disagree. Typically such sentiments are based on less than the actual facts, as demonstrated here. Yes, some can actually be dedicated to a particular project without having to multitask between games. What a shocker!

Beta, my dudes. Beta. That's the point where people can get to grips with what Frontier has decided is the go-to strategy for Exploration. I have concerns, granted, but some of these threads are a bit like Ralph Wiggum saying "my feet are sad :<" or "I glued my head to the table. :/" which whilst amusing isn't really gonna change anything.

There is a natural expectation of "how hard/ bad can it be?" and this is a question I find that I just prefer not to ask any more. Frontier have every chance of pulling a 'Hello Games' and actually dropping an amazing update. We know at times they can do amazing work. They can also be exceptionally tone deaf as well. So.. Time will tell.

As will the beta experience. I fully intend to thrash the living heck out of it. Not just once or twice. Many, many times. As would be expected, if one spends a month or three out in the black. If I can do this thing, whatever it ends up being, for hours on end and don't want to just grab my coat, pour accelerant everywhere, light a match and walk out of my house? I'll take it.

We won't know, and have no surety, until then. Everybody is assuming. There is nothing else, at this time.

Cool, my enquiry still stands: do you have a timestamp? What actually was said?

Meanwhile, it's interesting that the OP decided to use "weeks" twice in their OP then. One wonders if they were embellishing for drama/effect.

Where's that thunk.jpg emoji of mine...

Everytime somebody mentioned honking these guys would just start giggling about what a wacky word it is. Or start talking about bubble and nav beacons. I try here once more..

***I AM OUTSIDE OF THE BUBBLE AND ARRIVE TO AN UNEXPLORED SYSTEM AND HONK. DOES THIS NOT SHOW ME WHERE THE PLANETS ARE ANYMORE?***

Most planets are a bit boring and unremarkable after you've scanned hundreds or thousands of them. Being able to see if a system is interesting to you or not at a glance is so very important.

Surface scans and mapping interesting planets with drones and stuff? That sounds great! Having to tune in to some awkward radio channels at every single system to have any kind of an idea what's in the said system? Please no..
Devs, imagine watching that nifty map a thousand times, "tuning in" a thousand times in a thousand systems. Imo this portion of exploration needs to be fast, brainless and painless. Let the more taxing and time consuming and skill-oriented gameplay happens once player has determined whether the system is interesting or not.

Finding out if system is interesting to a player needs to be easy. Making places deemed interesting more involving or time consuming to explore..that's where the potential for more good, fun gameplay is.

For the love of god, don't turn honking into a hazzle. It is simple and barebones and it kinda needs to be.

During earlier stages of exploration update, they underlined they'd not remove anything that is, only add and supplement to it. That'd be a favourable course here.

One can be assured that the OP was simply describing the impression received from the livestream.

*EDIT*

33:10 "Please do be understanding because Adam actually, erm, you sort of took over this, a little bit, recently"

Go ahead and tell me he might've "took over this, a little bit" more than a few weeks ago.

To which, I'll respond by pointing out that if that's the case it's even more worrying that he doesn't seem terribly familiar with it.

How bilnd ppl here are, they started working on update few weeks before release, throwing bones to white knights who blinldy believe every their word.

Those 100devs could be IT students (more likely) or they're totaly incapable of anything.
It's 2018 and they give us pop up screen minigame lol.
They are not capable to make it part of ship's GUI says it all.......space legs and atmos, now i know it is way above their skills!

Lol this forum is so fun!

Its as if someone blended The Red Green show and the Royal Canadian Air Farce comedies together with these forum damage control specialists and the game itself

Cheers for some transcript that was missing from the OP.

Tbf, given FDev's sporadic use of Soon™ (which as we know can mean anything from 3 months to 2yr+) I don't think any of us can fathom what kind of timeframe "recently" refers to - anywhere from 3 months to 2yr+?

My dude. That's quite some snark; and that's coming from me. [noob]
Cheers :)

lol come on guys...so much drama.

We've seen screenshots of planetary probes at Lavecon so stop saying they started to work on it a few weeks ago.

Loved the livestream, they all look excited about what is coming, the rough work is done and Adam take control from now on for the fine tuning through BETA. Fresh blood and new idea from him for the last stretch can be good !

Yeah i really get irritated every time it comes across that some people take the game less seriously than we seem to do.

I used to watch all these things, but there are only certain staff that don't distract you away from the message. Its not worth it :) Do you feel better or worse after watching those?

They've been doing this consistently even when there was nothing to be excited about as they were working on jwe. They were telling us to be excited anyway when they couldn't tell us what they were working on but were working on nothing (yet). Sorry i cant unsee all those previous livestreams.

It did not actually surprise me that Adam took on the brief a few weeks ago.

I think I saw an announcement from the head of marketing somewhere saying they had cut some features from ED, and moved people around for Q4. I did not take from this moved people around except for designers.

And this is why devs usually don't share such details :)

SJA was suddenly called away to other part of the game when she first worked on her combat AI. Yes, such things happen. Also I suspect Adam was called in to get fresh perspective and gather feedback during pre-beta / beta cycle.

100 people working on the game remember.

:D
Another bold statement by FD without any context.
That magical number could very well include a lot of
external outsourced personell doing the animations
for the trailers and the "ram tah" shorts.

Trust, trust is like ice, thin.

I love your sunny outlook on things, do you carry this through to everything in life? If so, good for you it's a talent that very few have.

The cynic in me would suggest that they really haven't got far beyond jpegs with the coding, that they may not have been able to get everything done that they wanted too for this release (ice planets and carriers for two) and they were hoping to quietly drop some (all?) of the exploration features but in light of the Gnosis salt outburst (which was like being bitten by your old faithful hound) they had to attempt to keep the features in, this could mean either a badly implemented release or a delayed release on the back of an extended beta / feedback reworks.

But thats just me being cynical, I'm sure they have everything under control...

There was enough context - it does include everybody working on ED, not just developers (audio, servers, community management, advertising,…). It's just that some commenters love to use quotes out of context and (deliberately?) interpret statements wrong.
