Why

An experimental fighter approaches a derelict refuelling station for a secret rendezvous.

The station’s ageing weaponry starts firing aimlessly.

“REPORT” the pilot commanded.

“Armaments: Splashdash Mortars and Reddot Lasers. No threat!” the computer stated.

BOOM, a mortar splashed harmlessly against the shields.

“Docking doors open”

pewt, an ineffectual laser burst followed

BOOM, pewt

“WHY?”

pewt, BOOM

“WHY?”

pewt, BOOM, BOOM, pewt

“Shall we dock?”

pewt, BOOM, pewt

Memories stirred. Flashbacks to basic training

pewt, pewt, BOOM

…ancient warfare…

BOOM, pewt

Silence, then the firing repeated.

..communications.

REALISATION!!!

HALT! TARGET STATION. FIRE EVERYTHING

He repeated “Thanks”, saluting his dead comrades' ingenuity.

Just a myth?

While docked, Simyen felt exposed. The low-res scan on her monitor acted like a beacon with a bright, ethereal arrow pointed at her ship … or so she imagined.

The static image was of a planet. A polar cap decorated with structures, formed the Elite insignia. Her eureka moment was not of elation but dread.

Despite an empty cargo hold, she requested docking clearance. After a notable pause her heart quickened – permission granted.

The Krait lifted off and wasted no time heading for the void. Within, a red light blinked, illuminating a device attached to one of the retracted legs.

David frantically typed away at the keyboard. Michael looked on nervously. "Try again! It can't be anything serious. It was working fine yesterday."

The display in front of him consisted of a single word in a round-cornered box, "RUNNING". Wide-eyed, David yelled out to the rest of the development team. "Here goes nothing!"

Two large flashing letters appeared on the screen "RUN FAILED"

Michael shrugged his shoulders and checked his watch. "So what do we do now? Shall we go onto the website and tell them?"

David shook his head no and put a finger up onto his lips, "Shh!"

Your Drabble contest entry was good, but THIS, is genius. Also, unnervingly prescient. +1

"Maybe I've fallen into one of those Twilight Zone episodes where everything I type on my keyboard becomes true", typed the old codger on his keyboard.

He then patted his newly-delivered Oculus CV1 VR headset, readying himself for another successful late night session when Keira Knightley poked her head round the door asking "Aren't you coming to bed, darling?"

Let me know how that works out for you :D

You wouldn't also like to PM me 6 numbers between, and including, 1 and 49

Say "Hi" to Keira for me

Frank, Keira asked me to ask you to stop typing some things you haven't mentioned in the thread... She says she's experiencing some strange urges.

Now... about those Lotto numbers?

I didn't realise you knew Keira. Did she say anything about going along to the post office to pick up any parcels from America?

I didn't realise you could post Victoria's Secret lingerie models now. :p

Cheap too. They fit through that cardboard slot for checking the size of your parcel.

I dare you to try fitting a parcel through that "Check the size of your parcel" slot without humming the Blue Danube.

Kalryper has fallen foul of " ... " counting as 1 word in his word count leaving him 1 short..

Running quietly.

They always run.

We always stop them in time.

Well, so far yes...

Measures are in place. The outlying picket drones are effective...

...Quite so, but our luck will eventually expire.

Luck? <eternity passed> Ah, a joke. A disturbingly common habit with some of you.

The debris has been erased, appropriate ghost signals transmitted. Just another prospecting ship vanishing in the deep.

That's 36 incursions in the last 118 years!

Our secret is safe...

Complacency!

We should relocate. Or make our move.

Many others are not ready yet. Soon...

Deep within the mineral rich moon, the AI hive preparations continued.

Dangerous Talk

Do you want to know a secret?

It'll cost you. I don't give them away for free. There's a surprising amount of money to made from selling secrets. You just need to know who to sell them to.

Oh don't give me that look. It's not what you think. I'm not selling state secrets. That's a mug's game. Imperial security have a reputation for silencing people permanently. No, I deal in business secrets, it's usually much safer.

You never told me what you do? Corporate security for Mastopolis you say? Oh my, is that the time? I really must run.

Mr P.

What do you think of this idea...

If I record the drabbles (no music background) when I get home this afternoon and send the file to you, could you host it again?

who is hosting the poll this week?

signed

your biggest fan :)

Well if you wanted to record them, I could record some too and we could have a range of voices to cover them...

Saying that I really want to write one!

Write one - I'll read it :)

Propose a split and I'll do them when I get home, or I'll do them all and you can choose which ones to use...

Useful Contact

They made their way along the dark passage way, pulling 6 containers of stolen cargo.
‘Hey Tsark? This leads into the station right?’
‘Yes, it is our old secret smugglers tunnel… right passed security’
‘Wow, I was told you were a useful contact!, they’re weren’t kidding’
‘Yes I have many useful secrets, now we must hurry up’
A light appeared in the tunnel ahead.
‘Wow is that the exit already? That was quicker than I thought’
‘Yes, it will be over soon’
Ten heavily armed men with torches approached them.
‘This is another one of my secrets’ Tsark smiled menacingly.

Psykokow, I know you said it was difficult within the timeframe, but could you please please do my Drabble with sound effects. <impish grin>
