Ventura_ Sorry for last week.

Sam, Matt’s maintenance robot was cleaning up after Chafing’s night of Gin and Mugs (#Forthemug), drinking and drowning his sorrows, after hobo-mallow’s Left and Right Mug handle’s announcement.
Later Matt found Chafing lay slummed in a canister in the hold, sleeping it off. Suddenly Matt shouted “Wake up sleepy head, I want you to see this”
Chafing said “Shhhhh” stumbling to the control room, he asked “If the sun could be turned down”
Matt answered “No, look what one of the Engineers found”, MY Thargoids and fer-de-lance labelled beer, that you drunk and to be Frank, I am not happy.

Definitely not a waste of 100 words. People can put Drabbles on the thread even if we are in the Friday to Sunday voting phase at the moment.

It's a great Drabble Steph, and I enjoyed reading it. I hope you enter a Drabble next week. You just have to post your Drabble here. That can be any time from when the topic is announced on this thread on Monday - until I announced that I've set up the poll thread and that entries are closed for the week. I do that on Thursday night.

If you are just posting Drabbles and don't want them entered in the contest, could you please make that clear in the title.

I'm afraid it doesn't work like that Simoof. If you are just posting a Drabble for fun then state that fact in title. The only way you could get your scheme to work is if you managed to persaude Galactic Midden to post his Drabbles for him.

Midden, it does make a lot of sense to allow Simoof to do it for you. Just think of the hassle it'll save you.

Hi guys - OK, as I didn't expect to win, I've not had much time to come up with an acceptance speech, erm, I mean, a new subject...

Apologies if this topic has been covered before - but I'd like to go for:

Now we do have some rules...

1. Drabbles must be 100 words exactly (Excluding the title)
2. Over-use of-hyphens-to keep your word-count at 100 is very amusing but frowned upon.
3. Keep it as clean as you can to suit the family forum rules here, so no frogs attached to anatomical parts
4. Only the first 20 entries are guaranteed a place in the weekly poll
5. 1 entry each, you may write as many drabbles as you want, but it is assumed that your first drabble is your chosen entry unless otherwise advised. But please mark Drabbles that you don't want entered as such
6. If your drabble is under or over 100 words you will have a chance to correct it before the poll is erected, at this point, your drabble may be DQ'd if other drabbles are available to take its place.
7. Drabbles must be set in the Elite Dangerous universe (as loosely as you care to make it)
8. It should try to meet the theme in some arguable way.
9. If there is more than one theme you must match at least one, but can gain extra votes if you meet more.
10. It's all for a bit of fun, so enjoy yourself... Enjoyment is mandatory!
11. If you win, you get to submit next week's Drabble topic, so make sure you post it by 3pm GMT Monday. Or else chaos will ensue and who knows what will happen...

So submit your drabbles in reply to this thread, and the first 20 will be guaranteed entry into this weeks poll, and read out on our live Show Friday night.
Entries close at Random O'clock on Thursday evening (or sometimes if we have 20 entries earlier). All Drabbles submitted up to Friday Afternoon will have a good chance of being read out on the live Drabble readiing show.

Midden frowned as he examined the coffin-shaped ship. "Did you call it a Dop?"

Frank grinned and nodded. "It's a one-man ship. Capable of gettin' ya's where ya need to be. Try it out fer size."

Midden climbed in warily. "Are you sure this is safe?"

Frank was grinning encouragingly as he slammed the lid shut and pressed a few buttons. He then waved bye to the pod as it accelerated upwards and away.

The next thing Midden knew he was in an almost-dead Sidewinder in the midst of a heavy battle, and a missile was heading right for him.

Welcome aboard

Dani's world spun as the Cobra disintegrated beneath her. Firm, enveloping foam pushed against her body, cocooning her into the pilot seat and its rapidly-deploying metal cover.

"Please remain calm," cooed the helmet computer. Her HUD became a wall of status reports detailing the remlok’s integration with the lifepod's systems.

She felt a dozen simultaneous itches as catheters pushed into her veins, replacing her blood, inducing suspended anima...

...the air reeked of tobacco. Harsh florescent light burned her eyes, everything was cold. Dani retched and vomited on someone's boots.

Moose moved from the engine compartment to the mess.
"Food still on plates.."
"I was eating when you called me..."
"SHHHHH!!!"
Moose was in one of those moods, the kind that earned him the nickname moose666.
He moved into the escape pod. He sat down and punched the cushions. A small puff of dust poofed.
"SHHHHHHH" went the closing door as Jax jettisoned the pod.

Not intended for the Competition but this may be reversed in the instance where I cannot think of anything better:

Title: Phylum under "E"

"Ah FluffyBun, you have my samples?" Professor Ishmael Palin chimed.

"Yes, I have visited research bases tens of thousands of light years apart to gather these"

"Excellent! My ... such a fine array of arthropods, amphipods, gastropods, myriapods, and cephalopods for me to study!"

"Professor" FluffyBun tentatively asked "is it true that you are studying Thargoids? If so, what genus are they?"

The Professor slowly turned his head away, and muttered "Escapepods".

"Escapepods?"

"Yes" the Professor uttered "Escapepods. All we know of the Thargoids is that they are a species that will leave you yearning for an escape pod".

The Uncomfortable Truth

There are two type of escape pod, the lifesaver and the timesaver. The first is the one you'll find at wreck sites. It will preserve your body but maybe not your mind if you're waiting years to be rescued


The second type is favoured by most pilots. The advertising blurb talks of some fantastic technology that will whisk your pod back to the last station you docked with. Pity it's all a lie. The truth is that 'you' don't survive. The 'you' that wakes up to blearily sign the insurance rebuy is a clone that's just had your memories installed
