Frank hears Bleke's question over the wail of bagpipes. He puts down his plate of porridge and haggis to face him. "Well I'm no English if that's what you're implying."

Frank's tartan skirt swings out a little and he flounces out the door.

New Guinea?

Hmm, it used to get badly messed up by punctuation. Looking at it again it appears to have been significantly improved. Consider my objection dropped henceforth!

That's great to hear. I'm sure that the quality of your Drabbles at the beginning of this thread were one of the things that contributed to its success. They may have even helped shift a few copies of "Tales from the Frontier" as well :)

I hope you manage to enter a Drabble this week. But with only 6 slots left you'd better get your skates on.

Indeed! Good thing I have one ready ;)

Balance of Power

'Enemy fleet incoming,' announced the scout.

'Roger,' responded Celia. 'Everyone get in formation.'

She watched their ships assemble, a motley collection of old Cobras, battered Vipers and underpowered Sidewinders, her Anaconda the only real firepower. Some defence fleet... but it was all they had.

Space ruptured, stygian hyperclouds spewing forth, and storms of fighters emerged around the colossal hulk of the Imperial Inmanis. Before the majesty, the awe, the power of their enemy Celia shuddered. Yet she would not hold back.

'Attack!' she ordered. The fleet advanced, one tiny fight for freedom in an uncaring galaxy.

Frank's tartan skirt

Ah, he's a Amazon after having transgender surgery! And everyone knows that Amazonian woman hail from Pontus.

I don't know what he'd be doing with such a wee beastie as a Haggis though. A Scot wouldn't be caught dead wearing his kilt too high and run the risk of it being called a skirt, after all.

Yes. That would be a calf-length plaid maxi-skirt.

There's a few over-polite Englishmen standing beside the held-open door saying "After you."

"No, no! I insist. After you..."

Just get through the Blooming door!

It's not politeness holding me back, it's just a half baked idea, maybe with a little time it might work out. We wouldn't want it to have a soggy bottom* would we?;)

Muckle Flugga ?

Isn't that a character from children's tv. ?:D
Seriously I thought 70's and 80's kids telly was strange with such delights as Bagpuss, Mr Benn, Rainbow and the Clangers but has anyone seen the things they show these days? I don't know what the creators of 'In the night garden' are on but it's probably illegal in Federation space:rolleyes:
*Recycling 'The Great British Bake Off' standard joke. maybe I should add links so Erik has some idea about all these programs?

Well done Drabblers! You done yourselves proud. There are still five slots open so it looks like the poll will be setting sail on Thursday night as usual.

I've an idea. Why don't you write a Drabble for the contest? I know for a fact that I would want to hear it. It's the ideal opportunity. There's plenty of space so you won't feel that you're depriving anyone of a slot. And also with so many entries you won't feel so exposed.

Since most of the audience here seems to come from a certain part of the world, I have translated my drabble so that you can more easily understand it:

Na escape
"viper ska-469, this is squadron a3 o' th' fifth federal fleet. Shut doon yer power supply 'n' staun by tae be boarded."

t.j raised an eyebrow. "a squadron! that's unusual. Weel, a'm na sittin` duck. Ta ta, twerps!", he thought 'n' witchspaced tae anither star.

"viper ska-469, this is squadron d5 o' th' fifth federal fleet. Shut doon yer power supply 'n' staun by tae be boarded."

"well howfur aboot that!" t.j witchspaced again.

"viper ska-469, this is squadron c4..."

"an entire fleet! thay mist hae spread an entire fleet a' ower th' sector, juist fur o' wee ol' me."

Someone's buckin' fer a Banhammer! :D

Or at least a love tap!

LOL

They shouldn't have such ambiguities in their rules.

What constitutes the english language is highly debatable.
