Two opposing forces faced off across the rocky wasteland, the outpost Weedram Neat glistening in the distance the planet's only habitation and also the reason battle lines were drawn. The Genial Brigade, a hundred strong army of Scottish lowlanders yelled a deafening war cry at their enemy. The leader, a fierce old miner raised his mug of janx and yelled "ye dinnae stan' a chance ya wee rascals, up yer kilt!"

"UP YER KILT!" Frank's battle experienced commanders bellowed, a tsunami of noise rolling over the Moofton outlanders.

"Winnie, send in the berserker" shouted Kow.

"Moooooo tae BATTLE" screamed Simoof

Cleonymus was testing.

"Weight, too light. Feels like it would break in use."
He took up the next candidate.
"This one is the right weight, but too thin."
"This one heavey. The user would start to tire."
The next three had inferior build quality.
"Ahh. Almost perfect, but the wrong colour"
"Too light"
"Wrong length"
"What made them think that a curved stock with a fluffy wrist guard was needed"
Finally he consulted his notes - a decision was required.
"The winning candidate of the official space cricket equipment championship is ..... Bat K"
"Its a shame the last entry arrived too late!"

Is Anything Worn Under the Kilt?

Congratulations! :D

That's one, can you spot the other?

I got it! I got it!.. You served the Janx in a mug. Everyone knows that it would just eat its way through normal ceramic.

The bat after Bat K was absolutely spot-on perfect. It would have definitely won if it had been entered in time.

I could have been a contender!

A late drabble:

One Woman Army

In days of yore the elite warriors would ride into battle shoulder to shoulder, a host crushing their foes before them. Maharbel. Subedai. Greengold.

Now that sort of camaraderie was for military grunts and national defence forces. The true elite fought alone. Juutilainen. Jameson.

Soon they would be adding Ulia to that list. She had aced every simulation, destroyed all comers in the sector CQC contest, won her prize. A ship to finally take her to the stars. To make her name. Alone.

She lined the eagle up on the pirate, too late seeing three more blips appear behind her.

Wow Cleonymus, Splendour that was incredible. If either one of those drabbles had made it into the poll they would surely have won with more votes than ever before :)

Congrats Erik, Ian and Sneevus. Great drabbles.

One third of the new theme is in: "Taking Stock". I wonder what the other two will be.

Well done to the glorious, triumphant triumvirate of this week's drabble topic(s).

So far from Erik and Ian we have
"Taking Stock" and "Joy".

Breathes are now fully bated for Sneevus' topic

The challenge we are setting you is to write a story in exactly 100 words. Not a word more. Not a word less.

The story should be set in the Elite Universe and the exact number of 100 words does not include the title. On Sunday the winner shall have the honour of choosing the next topic.

A good place to compose your story is recommended by someone, http://www.wordcounter.net/

Entries to a poll will be limited to the first 20 Drabbles submitted, and the poll might go up earlier than Thursday night if all those slots are filled but don't let that stop you from showing us what you would have entered in the contest. Friday night the live readings occur http://twitch.tv/psykokow so don't miss it, all drabbles are read out... 7pm UK Time (whatever that may be since Kow never starts on time anyway).

Please bear in mind that this is a family forum, read by little people with impressionable minds and old folks who are easily shocked. We want as many people as possible to feel comfortable on this thread. Don't write anything that you wouldn't want to read out in front of your family. It may appear a little hypocritical of me to ask you to watch your language. I myself sometimes find it difficult to know what is and isn't acceptable. The rule of thumb I use is that if think my words are shocking enough to cause faux outrage by a hypocritical tabloid newspaper, then I don't post it.

The themes this week are: "Taking Stock" and "Joy". Possibly one more on its way too...

See, now I would have thought, with the three of you, and it being the run up to Christmas (aka non-religious winter holiday) ... that you would have had Gold, Frank's Incense and Mirth as the topic for this week. Oh well ...

Gold is easy. Just visit unidentified signal sources. Eventually, you'll find one that has tons and tons of gold just floating in space. Frank's Incense can be found at the Thargoid and Fer de Lance after I've eaten a particularly large plate of Brussels sprouts. There have been times when I've tainted the atmosphere so badly that Sven has had to open a window. Not such a good idea when you're in a pub on a space station.

Mirth might the item on your list that's the hardest to find. Maybe I could make up a few puns for you.

We're not that co-ordinated, Alien.

Beautiful picture, Kow. Very captivating. Much excitement. So colo(u)rful. :)

Has someone smacked Sneevus awake yet? You're not allowed to win if you're not going to toss a topic in the pot!!
