Free falling scrap

“Anderson Colony, this is Commander Dale. I am reporting an alpha one priority emergency. My main fuel tank has ruptured and I've no more in the reserve.”
“Commander Dale. Do you have enough to make it into orbit?”
“That’s a negative Anderson Colony. I am currently in free fall at 312km. I'll be coming down about 50km east of you. I'll try not to hit anything.”
“Commander… Do you want us to contact anyone?”
“Tell Mack in the shipyard he can collect the debt from my impact coordinates. There should be around 400 tonnes of scrap when he gets there.”

King of the Hill

They raced to the tip of the summit, SRVs bouncing and jetting along. Commander Erik Marcaigh was filming the race from above, nestled cozily in his Cobra Mk III.

Psykokow's SRV plowed into the side of Simoof's, sending him off the side of the cliff for yet another death. Seconds later, Futuristic Kung Fu bumped Kow's SRV just enough that he fell to the same doom.

Eventually only two Commanders remained, with Galactic Midden reaching the summit first. But the win was not his as MrMogadon clipped him off and sent him freefalling into the scrap heap far, far below.

Erik certainly guaranteed your vote, but what he also did was insure that Simoof, psykokow, FKF, and Galactic Midden would definitely refuse to vote for him.

Orbital Aquisition

An important move in zero G kickboxing is letting your guard down long enough for a sharp tug on the tether that binds you to your opponent, giving you more force behind your blow.

I snatched for the tether, holding on despite a stinging blow to the left bicep. I tugged, aiming a kick at the chest. As I did I let my right hand slide up and unclip the line. A quick kick off the commanders chest and I was back at the ship’s airlock and they were drifting towards the planet below.

I saluted the slowly dwindling figure.

Erik certainly guaranteed your vote, but what he also did was insure that Simoof, psykokow, FKF, and Galactic Midden would definitely refuse to vote for him.

Not sure why not? They all got mentioned. In fact, 'Kow gets mentioned twice, GM was obviously the fastest driver and FKF may well have had to retire through mechanical difficulties after serving out sweet revenge for Simoof's untimely demise. I'm sure I was perfectly happy with second place and were it not for a tragic mechanical problem with my brakes, there, I would have remained.

Not sure why not? They all got mentioned. In fact, 'Kow gets mentioned twice, GM was obviously the fastest driver and FKF may well have had to retire through mechanical difficulties after serving out sweet revenge for Simoof's untimely demise. I'm sure I was perfectly happy with second place and were it not for a tragic mechanical problem with my brakes, there, I would have remained.

It's all there in the subtext.

Maybe you're right and FKF survived the mountain run, but the rest of you weren't so lucky. And although it isn't stated, I don't think it was Erik's intention to leave him alive.

Personally myself, I would refuse to vote for Erik whether or not I lived through the ordeal. Just imagine the frustration of getting so close to winning only to be denied because of mechanical failure.

Of course you're going to think it's an okay Drabble. You're up there on the podium with a laurel around your neck, dousing people with Champagne.

That's only how it appears to the public.

What you don't see is the gnawing pain of survivor's guilt slowly eating me up from the inside.
I don't sleep well anymore.
My appetite's gone.
I also have trouble dealing with people and my relationship with Mrs Mog is on a downward spiral, due to my mood swings.
Snorting Janxx is the only thing that tends to numb the pain, as well as the top half of my face and most of my left arm.

I've also had death threats regarding the result and my sponsorship deal with Lave Radio has been shelved since they are now down a key member of staff and are having financial problems themselves.

However, I'm not one to complain.

Psykokow's SRV plowed into the side of Simoof's, sending him off the side of the cliff for yet another death. Seconds later, Futuristic Kung Fu bumped Kow's SRV just enough that he fell to the same doom.


The three remaining SRVs, guided by FKF's superior skills, formed a tower. FKF sent Galactic Midden flying in to the air, causing Erik Marcaigh to crash from the confusion. Descending shrapnel regrettably destroyed MrMogadon.
