"Everyone is doing it, so why not me?" .... where have I heard that one before ?

If I were FD, I'd let this post run ... with the OP singing like a canary they will be checking commander accounts who have interacted with the OP now ... and one is an alleged moderator? Well that helps them a lot.

Trouble is, with posts like these, everyone starts suspecting everyone else ..... 👀

I've had one myself, learned my lesson the first time! A hundred bucks though seems a fairly appropriate fine though in comparison. I mean how long does it take you to earn a hundred bucks? Hopefully not 6-7 years! How much would you earn in 6-7 years? ..and how would you feel if the parking fine was that amount? That's what I mean, it just seems way over the top punishment for what I did.
Well, where I live standard parking tickets are usually 25-30, not 100-120. So I thought I was a little bit hard done by given where I parked the car as it didn't endanger or inconvene anyone (like blocking the footpath so people had to walk onto a busy road, emergency corridors, double parking etc.). But the authorities in charge clearly thought differently... ho-hum.

So if you got a parking ticket like that every year for the past 6-7 years, you'd pretty much be at the sum of what you spent on Elite, right? - as someone who dropped around 500 on the game myself I can empathise, but it's also a key reason why I wouldn't even dream to share my account with someone else in the first place.

I did try to keep it off the forums altogether but Frontier wouldn't engage in any kind of conversation so this was the only outlet I had to discuss the issue.
I imagine this is just fdev sticking to the principle behind the rules over sharing accounts, as frustrating as it might be for you. I suspect the problem from fdev's perspective is your situation is impossible to distinguish from account sellers. So even if fdev might believe your case, they can't ignore it. I would think if anything you're lucky they appear to be knowingly allowing you a new account.

Huh. I didn't know the user you lent it to already had an account.

Kind of changes my thoughts a bit - however, it did give them access to cosmetics I guess... dunno if that should really matter though.
He would have had access to the cosmetic items to use on my ships but I did ask him not to mess around with them as I have them all how I like them. It was only ever meant to be a temporary thing whilst I was away from home. The intention was that he would return the account to me once I was back at home. I need the game to get me through every day stuck in the house, there is no way I would let anyone have my account permanently. Once I was back home though he couldn't return it because the account was locked.

I think factions using shared accounts to gain an advantage is very bad, I hope Fdev shut them all down.
Sorry OP but that is just plain cheating.
I agree, it was cheating the system. It can't be done any more though, Frontier has changed the BGS since then.

I'd missed the first thread completely, just read it now and to be honest, I'm still reeling at the fact someone wasn't aware that account sharing is a complete no-no in online games. Given the further admission of industrial scale account sharing in the opening post of this thread, I really think the best thing OP could do is back away from the keyboard.

Lmao right?

"Yeah Officer, sure I have some weed on me but you've never bothered me about the industrial growing operation I got back home so I dont see why it's such a big deal really."

Just read the 1st post of the locked thread. If that was all you did , let a mate use your account whilst you were on holiday and there is no more to it than that I feel for you. It seems harsh.

Strange tho , I have logged in from difference places before and not had an email.

As for the mass.account sharing it does feel kind of exploity to me and whilst I didn't know it was against the rules it does not surprise me......... Had all of those accounts been closed I would not have had so much sympathy but you main account when used by 1 other parson..... ?

The email and password to access it was changed, then the account started being used in a different country consistently.

To any observer this looks like the account was sold.

Also that's the difference with your account (and likely all these shared faction accounts - they share the email address as well I bet)

In your previous thread on this matter you said....

Also in that previous thread I suggested you stop talking about this entirely because the more you do the more you incriminate yourself and sadly in this thread you've decided to incriminate yourself further and also it seems trying to take others down with you including a mod.

Next time you purchase something I beg of you to read the ToS.

I see where your going there.

It does seem to be two different stories.

I guess the OP would say "By try out the game, I mean try out certain parts of the game, like the fleet carrier"

Does seem... a little weak though.

Yeah, here we have some details changing. From the very first post (emphasis mine):
"I was away for an extended time and someone else I know was wanting to try out the game so I gave them access to use my account whilst I was away."
And now:
"With what I did here I didn't take any money from Frontiers pocket either, my friend who used my account already has his own account, he just doesn't have many credits or anything and wanted to check out the fleet carrier when it came out, which he didn't have the in game credits to do. "
Innocent small mistakes, or slipping up while spinning a story? Unfortunately, we have no way of verifying the truth, so we'll never know.

Yeah that does sound dodgy.. I can see why FD are not having any of it.

IF (and I am not admitting to anything here) but if I trusted someone with access an account with a grands worth of stuff on it, I would also trust them with my email and password and not change it for them

I am guessing it's not part of the steam share system then?

(Actually i spose it wouldn't be as it's a separate launcher)

You need to keep reading! :giggle: There was more to it than just that. I foolishly changed the details on the account (email address, paypal, home address, etc.) to his, as I didn't want him to have my personal details. Also, as I jokingly said to my friend, I didn't want him buying stuff on my account whilst I was gone! It was this along with the access from another country that Frontier locked the account for. I owned up when I got back, apologised profusely but they have decided to keep the account locked.

I feel for you I guess it is an (expensive) lesson learned.

On the bright side, in many ways early game is where ED is at its best anyway .
Also at least you get a free copy from epic store next week

While it is more effort to keep account, I really think the way to have 1/2/n strikes (depending on severity) is fairer, then right out shotgun in the face. If a cheater is notorious, he will be banned soon, but most “honest” (as in, not knowing better) trespassers the first warning will be enough for a life. This case: first I would just reset the trespasser commander to start again, but not lose anything account wise.

In life there is a judge who can consider your past, your actions, your reasons and make a sentence in the spirit of the law. Over the internet it is very hard, thus most of the time the letter of the law is used.

Still, I would try to appeal again to Frontier to please reconsider restoring your account (but not your pilot).
