ACHIEVEMENTS!! (are needed)

I believe one of the console achievements in 'Buy a FC' ... and at the same time people complain about systems being full of FC ...

Then there were the months we had no CGs, and the main complainers were consolers wanting the 'do 10 CGs' badge ...

maybe we should be removing some of the achievements 😈

It's weird, isn't it, what motivates people?

The PS trophies, for the most part, are all low hanging fruit. Mine X amount of this substance (I recently discovered it was just 25t of Gold), collect 100,000cr in bounties, fly this far, use the SRV that far and so on.

So you can see that they might motivate people to try different aspects of the game just to get the trophy but then you get in game motivations of a similar nature, engineers. As someone was making the point on here just this week, if you go around unlocking all the engineers, they're simply mechanisms to get you to investigate many aspects of the game. Of course the engineers also provide a greater, more useful reward than a badge or trophy, they unlock their engineering capabilities.

On the one hand, I get the idea that something is offer to encourage you to 'explore' all aspects of the game but on the other hand I kind of view it that if you're playing the game to unlock a trophy, then you're doing it the wrong way round.

Each to their own I suppose. What I do understand is, trophies/badges are there and must be conquered for someone who is a completionist. I thankfully don't fall into this category meaning I won't feel compelled to do CQC or form a wing or use SLFs.

Greetings Spacers,

My advice for the dev team is simply -- This game needs achievements on Steam!

One of the main criticisms of E.D. is lack of 'structure', lack of 'story', new players feeling like they 'do not know what to do'. Now I can play the game and roleplay a whole fun time in my head, and find plenty to occupy myself with; but there are thousands of gamers who have picked up E.D. flew around for 5 min only to drop it because they couldn't create their own goals.

The answer is Achievements, and it's a very cost effective solution with major upside for the Dev team. There is a certain type of gamer who feels that completing achievements is in essence completing (and succeeding at) the game. Simple things like:

-kill 1000 pirates
-jump 40ly in a single jump
-trade for a profit of 1 mil

So forth and so forth.... some players see achievements like this and it gives them something to grasp on to, and if they don't know what to do then achievements can be a focus for them. Then they won't be dropping the game after the first session, they'll play more, and when they unlock multiple achievements they'll look at E.D. and think, 'I accomplished things in this game'.

In my opinion the games lacks that sense of progress, accomplishment, and completion that many players are familiar with. I humbly submit that Steam Achievements are the easy to implement solution for a core flaw of Elite Dangerous.
Console players have achievements. I don't think it would be difficult to just copy those. The only problem is we have alot of them for CQC and since noone plays that it's extremely difficult to complete them without help. On the other hand they do encourage gameplay you might not otherwise do. We have one for pirating a megaship and after I did it I was hooked and loved doing that... Well until they broke it anyway.
