If anyone wants to try mining at locations that are a bit unusual, near(ish) to Vartai are:

  • 97ly Alkupai, planet 12 is a T-Tauri star with a pristine metallic ring. Very spectacular, but be careful with your heat.
  • 116ly Tiraon, planet 2 - the outer ring is the prisine metallic one. It's hard to see from supercruise, I managed to accidentally collide twice

do these have Res sites, are they in inhabited systems?

Dear Ben, Count, Lizard and everyone else in this thread!

I am a part-time miner, and keen to get in on this one, especially as I am a closet UA-follower as well! However, I have a really dumb schoolboy question that I feel I should know the answer to already. However, I feel I am having a senior moment if nothing else.....

So, when I try to search for either of the 'COL ...' systems using the galaxy map, it doesn't respond to my search terms; in fact it just does nothing after I type them in as if I have mis-spelt them or something. I have come across this issue before a long time back when looking for systems in the galaxy map as well, so I think I am typing them correctly. Now I recognise there are many many tens of these star systems differentiated only by the suffix, so is there a trick to finding them or getting the map to respons to my search term? If not, is there an easy way of finding them that I have simply overlooked?!

If the above fail, would somebody please be able to tell me their locations using the XYZ co-ordinates of said systems please, so I can at least home in on them?! I really do feel like a bit of a prat in asking this, so please be kind to me!

Great summary by the way Ben, and well linked to in the CG thread; I hope you don't mind if I repeat the link to the first post here if people are asking the same questions in the CG thread without looking back a few pages? If not, it may be worth liaising with Kietrax so he can link it directly to the first post on the CG thread for the newer players out there.

Fek I thought I changed that

You can use copy and paste for system names COL 285 SECTOR LD-R C5-11


CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste in to system map

I ran into a glitch effect on this.

Did some mining with a wing - a wingmate had more collectors than me, so he ended up with more of the ore. However when turning in the stuff, I seemed to have been credited with the ore I mined and he turned in.

My progress is at 73, and I am sure I only turned in some 40-odd at the time.

I normally don't fly with shields or weapons. I hought I'd give shields ago because of the bumpity rocks. I feel quite secure with 30ly jump range and fuel scoop. Might even find some wing mates for Benny No Mates :eek:

Just checked the traffice report and have to say there are some fine ships out there!

A big salute to the only Commanders on day one flying the Orca and the Adder. o7. Im going to see if I can track down the commanders in eagles and side winders. Going to head back and take out Gold Runner from her bay.

Thanks Ben, I will give it a go. I feel like a bit of a prat asking said question, but I am the person whose game has never ever shown me an 'empty icon' for a player controlled ship, even when I have been in a wing. I think there is just a part of this great game that doesn't like me :(

Another newb question... I see that most of our miners are out in the systems with those pristine rings. If I go out in my little combat spec'd Cobra & kill all the wanted folk in THOSE systems, will the bounties count for the CG, or should I just stick in the system where I turn them in?

Normally it depends on where the CG is situated: the recent LHS 3447 one accepted Federation bounties as well because it was a Federation system. It will be different with this one though I suspect, as the system is an independent one - I haven't turned any bounties in yet as I have only been hunting in the HazRES for an hour, but I imagine it will only be bounties from the Varati system. Ie: those probably just from the Canonn minor faction. Therefore in this BHCG, I would recommend hunting only in the Varati system, of which there are RES sites at Varati BC6. I recognise this can pull a little away from the immersion/RP side of things if you are deeply in to that as a gameplay mechanism, but nonetheless you are protecting miners, just perhaps not those directly contributing to the Palladium mining CG. I hope that helps out mate; I will let you know if the result on hand in is any different, but my advice would be to go to the BC6 RES sites that Ben listed at the top of the thread.

EDIT: It turns out all of the minor faction bounties in the Varati system have counted towards the CG so far, but of course NO major faction ones do.

One thing to be aware of:

Please do not kill wanted ships from Canonn while bounty hunting in Varati. It will lower Canonn's influence in the system. Only hunt wanted ships from other factions.

Why in the nine hells would bought palladium not count? It's the same frakkin' thing! It's not like I'm going to keep the price sticker on the stuph, lol

O yeah absolutely, but when mining together it's often handy to hold cargo for someone - you cant do that for a mining CG because it doesn't remember that you mined them.

Absolutely we do it in a wing - but I meant we stick to our own thing while in the wing, in effect we scale back our group activity.

For instance, if we were mining for Palladium - we would prospect in a wing and mine in a wing, but might have one very big ship with us for the purpose of holding our cargo. So when the Annie/T9/Cutter is full of Palladium, we take it to the dock, share it out, and sell it (selling it on the mission boards gets you about 70k average per ton).

The last mining CG we spent two nights filling a big ship with the required metal, and zero tons of it registered, despite the fact that it was all mined. So instead of total group mining, we have semi-group mining, We mine in a wing, but everyone just sticks to their own refinery, it's much less of a community and group activity than when we mine non-CG.
