Active Community Goal - Metals / Mining for Canonn @ Varati - Guide

Hi

Professor Ben 'Elemental' Ryder here. Creating a guide for the two community goals. 1) Mining 2) Bounty Hunting

1) Community Goal: Canonn Launches Outpost Campaign 10 MAR 3302
The Canonn Interstellar Research Group has launched a campaign to construct a state-of-the-art research outpost in the Col 285 Sector IX-T d3-43 system to support its ongoing research into the Unknown Artefacts. As part of this initiative, the organisation has placed an open order for palladium, promising to generously reward pilots who deliver the necessary materials to Thompson Dock in the Varati system.

A spokesperson for the Canonn released a statement to the media:

"Given the failure of Professor Palin's recent attempt to establish a research outpost in the Maia system, I am aware that certain sections of the galactic community may receive our request with scepticism. But the fact is that the study of the Unknown Artefacts is still of great importance, and it is essential that a dedicated research outpost be established, far from the civilian population, where they can be safely investigated."

The campaign begins on the 10th of March 3302 and will run for one week. If the final target is met earlier than planned, the campaign will end immediately.

Tools
Where's the nearest metallic ring to me?

Tips
* Prospector limpets double the amount of chunks an asteroid produces. Use them
* Mine in a Wing. Every member increases the amount of rock dropped by the same asteroid x1!

* Outfit your ship before you go to Varati
* Don't forget to buy limpets
* Fill your hold with 80% limpets
* Bring a discovery scanner
* Collector limpets are a must. The more modules you can fit the better. They are more useful than empty cargo space
* Get allied quickly with the local factions and you will get good missions
* Find a nice sunny spot to mine in. Put you back to the sun and lock on to the planet. Mine towards the planet.
* Dont bother with rock containing less than 20% of what you are looking for

Warning! Bought palladium does not contribute to the goal

What an amazing guide Ben Ryder - just brilliant.

It is; however since bought Palladium doesn't count towards the goal I would strongly suggest removing the section of the guide that tells people where they can buy it to avoid confusion. Unless it's in there for another reason which hasn't occurred to me right now because I'm at work. :D

(I'm guessing the guide was created in advance before FD confirmed the specifics of the CG to you and it wasn't totally clear at that time whether it would be just a 'deliver palladium' goal, so the information about buying it was included to cover all eventualities. That or Prof Ryder has spent one too many days out talking to barnacles and needs some R&R lol)

...aaaand ninja'd by the prof himself. Bought resources certainly don't usually count when the CG has been set up specifically as a mining CG. I haven't tested yours yet though, been at work since it went live.

Do you think this is a bug or by design? Can someone second that bought does not count?

I have read multiple reports that bought will not count, and the last palladium CG (Obsidian Orbital/Among the Stars in Kaushpoos) only mined would be accepted.

Regarding BOUGHT PALLADIUM DOES NOT COUNT, we have seen this introduced mechanic cause problems for miners - it means that any MINED Palladium that has been in someone elses hold also does not count.

Can we confirm if this is the case again for this CG, as it put a damper on communal mining, and turned a CG into a solo occupation!

and turned a CG into a solo occupation!
Hardly. if you mine in a wing, A roid prospected by one player can be prospected by another and will show the same ore %, provided it isn't depleted before the 2nd person prospects it. So a CG for a particular metal will be far more efficient in a wing.

Hi has anyone got some nice screen shots of the tiers for the mining and bounty hunting bulletin boards description thingies

It doesn't even need to be prospected by both, one prospector is enough per asteroid and you both get to mine an equal amount of fragments.
