In order to push more CQC activity and tie CQC to Odyssey, a CQC booth could be added to large concourse areas (orbital/planetary). The booth, decorated in CQC graphics/hype posters, would have a series of VR arcade-style cockpit pods that "telepresence" players in to the CQC match. Two rows of 8-12 pods on each side of the arcade room. (See mockup1)
Tube shaped pod (roughly same size and shape as a lift) with two sliding doors open to reveal a cockpit chair (same as existing ships) with the interior walls of the pod acting as large screens to replicate the cockpit interior. In the center view from the chair would be a replicate CQC menu screen. (See mockup2)
Players would select an option to "join CQC game" from the walk-up pod. This would trigger an animation of the player stepping in to the pod and sitting in the cockpit chair. Once seated, the cockpit chair would slide forward and the sliding doors would close. Fade to black. The player would then switch states from "on foot" to the CQC menu, same as entering CQC from the start menu. In the concourse, the arcade pod would remain closed until the player has returned from the CQC game. Retain player's reservation (station/pod #) in memory to return to. If the player disconnects before returning, cancel the pod reservation and open. If all pods are full, players will just have to take the non-immersive way through the main menu. Once the player returns to the concourse from CQC, the doors would open, the cockpit chair moves back, and the player would get up from the cockpit chair.
For immersion purposes, one or two of the pods could randomly be closed for games "in session" so it doesn't seem empty and unused; like going to an empty nightclub.
I attached some really badly made mockups. I'm not an artist.
If you think this is a good idea, please like and reply to the thread to give this more visibility.
