.......uhm, . but there ARE new crops of barnacles to be found.......... right.......?
.....so at least I'm not looking for a needle in a haystack that isn't even there..?

Hopefully, but it wouldn’t be the first time humans have destroyed something by over utilisation look back over history Kansas dust bowl, North Sea Herring fishing, the Passenger Pigeon, the Dodo and even further back Unicorn hunting (though to be fair that was put down to a lack of bait).

But you cannot know the needle wasn’t there until you have searched the haystack.

You forgot
Option 3, The CG data was C&P from the last explorer GC and only the description text was changed... just like every other CG when using the Existing assets for CG...
I think the tier 5-6 blip disproves that.

Not that I don’t think that there is too much of a CG set in stone before they start but how to improve them without a team running things real time I don’t know, I see this as a special issue for exploration CGs where Commander Thrust-from-Bradford and hundreds of her mates might turn up at 14:00 on Wednesday with hundreds of thousands of scans.

Hm, does anybody have data on the previous exploration CGs, on how many contributors turned in how much? I can't seem to find it on the forums, and on Reddit, the totals weren't always there.

Most ED sites work the same for CG, they mirror Inara datas untill that site deletes data, the last explorer CG only reach tier 1 as w ell which inara also keep data for...
Fdev deleted the old CG forum sections when they moved to this forum... they did not archive it...

It kinda feels what you're trying to say is, forget gameplay, just jump around and use your imagination!

Wouldnt it be great, if the CG accounted for actual system and planetary scans, only from certain regions of space, and if we actually found a new barnacle site, we would get a nice juicy bonus for it?
if Aegis knows the region of space to be searched they won't need us they would just send there own mega ships, that does not work out that would likely be a differnet CG completely...
if the region could be restricted Aegis would just send out their own ships...and we would not be requested untill they wanted Escorts or collection...
Also mega corps would get the location before us as it would leak..
After Aegis finds a new location due to the data scans handed in, in another phase I do expect a Leak of the location region due to the mega corps bribes and then a battle to Harvest the new locations before price drops back to normal and theres less profit for the mega corps to stop void mining...

The last recorded Exploration CG ended 14 Feb and took place in Nahuaru.
2654 Contributors achieved... Tier 1.

Cool, thanks!
The other data I found was that the Jaques exploration data CG fully finished tier 8, with almost 7,500 contributors putting in 1.6 million reports... but that one ran for a month.
And that would be tier 2 here.

You could solve the CG ending CMDR Thrust factor by scaling CG levels 1-8 progressively, each tier requires more than the last to complete, then have endless tiers that require a fixed amount of resource until the timer runs out with rewards scaling alongside tier completion. That way when Thrust and Co. show up and end the CG early, it doesn't end, it becomes this epic monument of ludicrous contribution, "remember that one explo CG we hit tier 16 on, that was nuts" instead of a disappointing, "DW2 CMDR sitting on data ended the CG before I could get to it" or "any of the legit discouraged comments from this thread",

Tier 1: 100 Reports, 100 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 1,000,000 Cr
Tier 2: 200 Reports, 300 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 2,000,000 Cr
Tier 3: 300 Reports, 600 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 3,000,000 Cr
Tier 4: 400 Reports, 1000 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 4,000,000 Cr
Tier 5: 500 Reports, 1500 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 5,000,000 Cr
Tier 6: 600 Reports, 2100 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 6,000,000 Cr
Tier 7: 700 Reports, 2800 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 7,000,000 Cr
Tier 8: 800 Reports, 3600 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 8,000,000 Cr
Tier 9: 1000 Reports, 4600 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 10,000,000 Cr
Tier 10: 1000 Reports, 5600 cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 12,000,000 Cr
Tier 11......etc: 1000 Reports each, (6600 + 1,000 per tier achieved) cumulative - Reward for top 25%: 14,000,000 (+2,000,000 Cr per tier)

The idea is to get people involved, yeah? People like success, people are drawn to it. People look at the current CG, see it isn't going anywhere and immediately lose interest, if they saw it chugging toward tier 6 or 7 I think they'd more likely want to get in on the party, even if it was just to throw in a few dozen reports they pick up on their way to the CG station, they want to be part of something successful.

2 cents spent.

On to day 5.

Just 'cos I created the post then don't assume it was all set in stone then! As I recall (been a busy time since then with gigs & Lavecon, oh, and work) that was just after the new II was announced, and part of the announcement was that there would be a CG, thus a page was created. It was subsequently updated several times prior to going live here on the 4th. Since the basic idea of the CG was known (exploration, location, duration) the page was pre-filled with that. This is how I've always tried to work so that the best data is available to folks on the forums as soon as the CGs go live but when I know I'm still 4 or 5 hours away from getting in game when that happens. Trust me - we've had many that changed significantly between the posts being created and going live!

TLDR: Don't use the create date of the thread as an indicator of when the CG is finalised

Any ideas where that was supposed to be? I thought it was a planetary base, and there are no landables in Nahuaru....

A campaign from the Holloway Bioscience Institute to build a xenological research centre has concluded successfully.

Chief researcher Dr Roy Casimir told the media:

“Thanks to Nahuaru Crimson Bridge Int we now have sufficient materials to build a planetary outpost where our scientists can study lifeforms identified by the galactic community.”

“We are also grateful for the exploration data provided by many pilots, which will help us create a new research catalogue.”

So like I said, planetary outpost. Text only mentions Nahuaru, and there are no landables. So which planet do you expect the base on - when none are landable?

I'm just curious where people think it should be as I'd like to chase it up more actively, but the first question I expect is this one - where should it be?

Well I contributed 9 systems to this CG, which was the number of jumps it to me to get to Delphi from wherever I was at the time. 'Haven't done anything since, but I done something!
Thank you.
And if every player did that we could really advance this CG.
