After blowing up rocks gets boring....

Trillions of tons of resources from rings, how exactly are ships getting blown up supposed to have an effect?

The way the game is designed it doesn't.
Destroying trillions of ships would have zero effect on the resources.
Even tough it recreates trillions more ships.

Well that's my point, there aren't trillions of ships, having ship destruction have an effect on resources would make no sense at all. Resources are essentially unlimited.

OP has legit concerns. I have the same. Mining should have part in the codex where you could mine specific elements in deep space.
otherwise, it will just boom boom rocks.

How is this different from "boom boom" combat or endless hauling passengers or goods?

Why should mining be something for the majority? Why should every feature aim for the majority?

Why are this thread just another whinethread?

Mining in 1.3 was terrible, both mechanically and aesthetically. With the latest update it will improve on both yet again, so maybe it will appeal to a few more players. Having said that, mining is just another activity that you can pursue to mix up your gaming/entertainment time with relatively little or no impact in the big scheme of things, just like surface mining. I'm looking forward to trying out the new gameplay, but it isn't going to make me want to mine any more than I already do once the novelty wears off, which will probably take about a full Anaconda load. To each their own.

No probs, if you don't like mining then go back to your boring and tedious combat.

Some of us love mining and have been doing it for years and are desperately waiting for this update because miners and explorers have to beg to get table scraps whilst 99% of updates/new stuff are for the pew pew gang.

Personally I'm really excited by the new mining update and cannot wait to get stuck in.

You've been mining for years? I used to enjoy the solitude of mining once in awhile, but years? Love it? Man, your life must be devoid of stimuli. ;)

haha possibly, however I'm not likely to mine any longer, having spent the night trying out the new mining.. dear gods I've been waiting so long for this ...it's just terrible.

Unfortunately without greater purpose, mining becomes boring after a few hours of gameplay. Why would I just blow asteroids to gain materials that I can't use for anything else apart from some engineer mods.

After far too many hours spent playing the game I find that while interesting and cool, the mining and exploration stuff barely moves the needle in terms of getting me interested in picking up the reigns again for any significant period of time. I'm ready to move on to gameplay where I can actually build something with my mined resources, or have something to spend my money on besides a new ship or two. A sense of ownership and achievement that has always been lacking from ED PvE. Not that I was expecting these things from q4, mind you, but I guess I've finally reached the point where I just don't see the point in playing anymore, and a few relatively shallow improvements while cool don't really bring enough new experiences to the table to stir my blood beyond mild curiosity.

everyone ounce of this would be a mute point if there was an actual economy of any useful sort... but there isn't, at all... There is really no need at all to mine unless you "want" to at all. Everything in Elite is completely artificial in every way. Now if you could use it for something besides synth, engineers, or something it would be different. But, until that day comes there is no other reason than fun...

Agree with ya OP. And I've drawn a fair bit of criticism from the one crowd when stating this same thing which is basically these 3.3 changes in mining, and exploration frankly, just make the game wider. The core gameplay mechanic is the same but now it simply takes longer to do. The forums tell the story with many players going "meh".
