After blowing up rocks gets boring....

I havent had a chance to test out mining yet but have caught a few streams of others testing it out in beta , a few issues i noticed could be tweaked or altered to add some QoL ... the breaking off of surface chunks seemed rather hit or miss to put it bluntly , the guy i was watching hit the thing quite a number of times and it wouldnt do anything. Also i think the mining tools could use some synthesised tools (seismic charges , limpets etc) ...

One thing i did notice was just how labour intensive it was for very little pay off , it was more oh look at the shiny shiny. I'll have a better stance on the subject once tested for myself but so far its just a couple of issues ive noticed.

After 'having a go' with mining in the Beta yesterday, until repeated connection errors forced me to give up, I definitely won't be doing any mining using the new method outside of the beta.

The new technique is such a long winded way to pull off, just to get a higher yield of the same stuff, that you can get using the current method.
OK, so some dedicated miners or those who like blowing up stuff will enjoy, but it won't be for me, I just didn't enjoy doing it.

Lucky for the miners that FD didn't do for them what they did for the explorers....scrap the old method & force a new method onto them!!

The new mining system is welcomed, though I'm not so excited.

After we have blown up a few rocks and they go kaboom, what reason is there still to mine lesser value resources?

Is there a link into the missions system, why bother filling up a hold with Rutile?

Where is the real depth here, can anyone see?

Haven't played with the new system yet but from what I've known from Frontier, 'Depth' isn't their forte. It's more of a "Do what makes you happy, if you can figure out how to do it"

Since it seems you're rewarded the same for doing more amounts of work, all I can say is, if you never liked mining before, you probably never will.

What it sounds like they should have done is, the "deeper" you mine into a rock, the higher chance you get the Rare Stuff or greatly increasing the payout of the current minerals and metals you mine to give outsiders an Incintive to try mining.

If it's all the same payout and chance on rare minerals, I will still avoid it like the plague because it sounds like to me that New Mining is just the same thing with a new hairstyle that explodes and that disappoints me...

Have you tried manipulating the BGS and Powerplay?

Turning a system's factional control to gain a star system's ports / rule and doing it in a manner that it also benefits your chosen PP faction is fairly in depth.

I have to admit that the devs haven't quite invested enough in the PP gaming to make it a prime feature.

For example: knowing which CMDR is doing what for whichever faction in real time so as you can counter or employ a different strategy. Not even a leaderboard for the top contributors to a faction or Power.

Also by not removing cheat modes like SOLO and PRIVATE that manipulates BGS or PP is ball locks. 😒 It nullifies a lot of the effort a player would invest in BGS / PP activities.

Mining could be a good strategy to help with BGS if it were a direct contributor to a factions influence or economy should you sell your haul to their ports or agents by demand or as an aid for construction of bases and defenses.

If NPC use the same mechanics, entering a res/haz res can be entertaining. I can see myself trying to pilfer resources right under the miner's nose in a small, heat efficient ship.

All the new toys still don't make mining profitable or fun.

Profitable? You mean more profitable than the previous method? you may have a point, subject to the balancing FD have still to do.

Fun is a personal subjective assesment. I have always enjoyed mining, you apparently don't. I'm ahead in that part of the game :D

Blowing up rocks? Boring??

Chance would be a fine thing - 2.5hrs and I haven't seen a single fissure yet, let alone put my seismic fist into one.

I'll tell you what does get boring, looking for fissures!

everyone ounce of this would be a mute point if there was an actual economy of any useful sort... but there isn't, at all... There is really no need at all to mine unless you "want" to at all. Everything in Elite is completely artificial in every way. Now if you could use it for something besides synth, engineers, or something it would be different. But, until that day comes there is no other reason than fun...

Same point I was making.
At least X4 comes out soon and looks like it is headed in the right direction.

Surely the whole point of ship choice and build out is about having to make choices? You can't expect to pack SLFs, SRVs, refineries, various flavours of limpet, etc? Maybe if the Panther Clipper or similar gets released then that would be an option for a pack everything vessel and I suspect that is why we are not seeing it.

Making a do-everything ship is a bad idea. I think the panther clipper will come, but it will have larger slots but the same number of them as say a conda. Therefore continuing the need to choose.

When you blow up a rock, you should hear the "chaching" of a cash register taking in a buttload of cash.

Granted, I've never seen "Mine 1100 tons of cinnamon from the rings of Uranus"

I dunno, after doing a cinnamon challenge with a ladle of the stuff.. you're blowing cinammon from every orifice.. Only fair someone else gets to mine it!
