I still havent really figured out how it works. Both parents need a special gene-type? And how do i know they have it or not? Or is this just about having luck while breeding?

And the white Animals I've seen until now are no Albinos, they are leucistic
If I ever manage to breed an albino and it dies before I can breed an albino baby I think I would rage quit. I'm hoping once you get one it's easy to keep it going.
I'm pretty disappointed that animals all seem to have the same skins (or so similar I dont notice the difference). Guess I was spoilt by the variant skin modders in ZT2. I really expected it to be a given that every species would have 3-5 noticably different pattern variations (not just super rare leucistic one).
Edit: after staring at my zebra for far too long, the stripes do have very slight differences (but only in certain areas). Sadly there doesn't seem to be any variation in shading/coat colours; I wish the different skins were a lot more noticable. Not sure I can tell the difference between my gazelles.

Just the time of day/angle of the lighting sadly - you can see the shadow from the sun on the floor. Same for the more orangey one with the dusk lighting.

There's a steam achievement for having an albino.. Maybe PZ considers it the same ?
It does consider it the same,which is totally wrong and spreading this misinformation doesn't serve the educational part of the game very well.
Sadly, it looks like Frontier only added leucistic animals, but called them albinos. It’s not a super big deal, but they are different mutations and the game is promoting misinformation this way.
I don't care what the correct term is, I'm just going to call mine white. 
Just got my first white female lion, with a bonus of 100% genetics. When she matures I'm going to breed her with the best male I can find and after she gives birth put her in storage. BTW, tried to get a screenshot but couldn't get it to work.

I just bought a leucistic Boa Constrictor
Edit: just noticed it has pink Eyes. But I think still it is leucistic because I think if it would be a Albino, it would be completely white

I would call that albino. Leucistic boas and pythons are all white with either blue or black eyes depending on the genetics behind them. Very cool though, first time I've seen an albino boa in game.
Looking at THIS it would be an albino or a sunglow. Didn't realise there were so many different boa morphs - quite interesting.
