Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

Anyone compared alien structures "star maps" recently with those from few months ago?
Tinfoil contemplation in progress about that "medusa scanning barnacles with the star map" video.

I don't want to be that guy, but that is not a star map. I mean on the Thargoid ship, not in the machine.

Yup. The animation on the Medusa when scanning the barnacle is the same for all three Thargoid variants, and is the same animation as the shields being raised. It only started appearing on Thargoids scanning Barnacles after we got the first AX weaponry (and therefore, could actually see a Thargoid's shields being raised by killing a heart). Having never been blessed with a Thargoid approaching a barnacle when I've been at one, I can't prove this yet.

Personally, I'm interested in why a Thargoid raises it's shields (other than it looking cool) when it scans a Barnacle anyway. More keenly, I'd like to see what happens if you attack a Thargoid during the barnacle scan.

I read about that somewhere, some people tried it, and a second Thargoid jumped in, and attacked immediately. My thoughts is theirs ship going into some special state during that charging/transfering/anything process, and cant move or defend himself. That's why raising a shield beforehand.
Edit: Maybe during that process, the ship hearts cant regenerate the ship hull, ergo the ship is vulnerable. The whole ship is full of bio-mechanic organs, tissues, things, who knows what is going on inside the ship.

Any links or video of that going on?

Awesome, thanks. Would rep multiple times if possible.

Interesting things I noted from that are that, while interacting with the barnacle, the ship seemed invulnerable...not a result of the shields either, saw multiple AX missile strikes hitting hull and doing no damage.
Other interesting part was the thargoid scanned the barnie twice. Instancing bug maybe?
Lastly, I wonder if the second Thargoid was coming in to suck on the barnie too, but just turned hostile instantly as the first Thargoid was being attacked? Double visits to barnacles aren't unheard of, so it may have just been coincidence.

Good to get visual confirmation that the swirl effect is definitely the shields activating (you can see the shields in the HUD image come up)

There are news out in the pleiades about portests against Aegis.
Doesn't look like basic BGS posts.

I noticed that all attacked stations so far (and therefore also those under repair) have one thing in common - a black market. So I am guessing that enough Thargoid items delivered there, like UA bombing, could trigger an attack on the station on the next server tick.

So I am now watching a few Pleiades stations with black markets that to date are unaffected, to see if they are genuine future candidates ;)

oooo nice catch! Interesting...

I wonder if its coincidence but the station attacks lead in a line to the bubble. When the next attacks come it will be interesting to see if they follow this pattern.

If you did that last week you would have seen that actually the attacks are going towards Merope - first week were all around 20 Ly from merope, second week are all closer to Merope (and hence away from Sol).

(Though eventually they will probably head for the bubble - no proof of that yet)

Is this the calm before the storm?
Maybe something big is about to happen?

Sometimes it is really worthwhile to look through the local media in relevant systems. Beside the news about local quarrels between various factions you can catch news with different content.

Not long ago, you could read in the local gazettes on Garay Terminal in the Deciat system that there have been "sightings of unknown flying objects". First hints of Thargoid interest? Maybe because of Farseer Inc. which is dealing with extraterrestrial artifacts?

Now AEGIS is asking for support for the attacked star ports in delivering large amounts of goods and materials. It published a long list with the wanted items.

Right at the end of this list you find the notion that there is Braun Orbital (not Brown but the German word) in Tengye with strong "disturbances due to Thargoid artefacts". I went to this station and found that some of the services are not available but the station itself is completely calm. No signs of Thargoid probes in the vicinity. But they offer a black market, too.

When I went through the local gazettes there I could read that there is an epidemic of an "unknown alien virus" in this system. These local news are not very enduring and are replaced by the time so it is recommended to copy them. I did it for my German version.

During the following days another news appeared regarding this epidemic and it pointed to "Kotzebue's Folly" on Tengye 1 as to be the primary center of this epidemic. BTW: "Kotzebue" is the name of an old German-Baltic-Russion Royal House. It is also known from a town in Alaska which once was the area of the capital of a Native Nation named Inuipat. I went there and could not find anything of importance. Only a mine (POI) was sitting there. It was blocked and guarded and had no Data Point or other things of interest. As far as I could scan, no signs of Thargoid presence.

Are the Thargoids kind of a Native Nation?

Sooo: what is this all about with the "alien virus/epidemic"? Is someone doing secret experiments (with people living here!)? What is going on in Tengye?

What will happen next?

Hi all,

I was messing around on Wikipedia this afternoon, when I found this:

That grey blob around Sol is apparently formed of "Jupiter Trojans", according to the key. To me, it bears a striking resemblance to the symbols we've been seeing adorning Thargoid ships and the barnacles. Could be a lead? Probably not. But it could be.
