Hey Ant, I think that was my video you're on about. I haven't been able to get anything out of it other than the UL mimicking the UA/UP howl. The only thing I can really confirm is the UL doesn't point to Merope like the UA and UP do, could be pointing to the Col 70 system but since it's not selectable in the Galaxy Map, there's no way to check.

Asteroid belt is a good thought, and seems like the most likely explanation. Before anyone said that I was looking at the image I had tried to clean up:
Notice the signal attenuation on the left side of the second orbit line in the Merope map? I thought maybe that line next to the star might just be an echo artifact of that part of the second orbit line. Asteroid belt is probably a better explanation though.

So am I, and after having driven 13km to my home in about half an hour I fear this thread will have advanced 50 more pages [knocked out] .......
Here's a list of things I've done with the UL in space:
Honking the UL does nothing.
Honking the UL whilst glowing does nothing.
Honking the UP near the UL does nothing but cause the UL to be blasted away.
UL mimics the UA/UP howls and changes a blue colour.
UA and UP out the same time as the UL does nothing, UL just mimics the calls.
UL doesn't point at Merope.
Not possible to test if UL points at Col 70 system, the system is unselectable in the Galaxy Map.
Blocked the dish of the UL, no noise made similar to the one made when blocking the UP, even when the UL was mimicking the UA/UP.
Test Clips/Pictures:

UL doesn't point to Merope
(Remember, the UL supposedly points between it's two 'branch' bits where the 'radio dish' is)

There is only one place the UP don't point to Merope and that is in Merope.
If there is a drop in space and triangulate puzle, it has to be in the Merope system.
Ok great, some interesting stuff for sure. I will be mentioning this discovery in my next video.

It may be an idea to target a system on the outskirts of the permit lock, to at least see if it points in the general direction.

So if the system on the left is Merope (line being the asteroid belt)
The second ringed planet from the star (with 4 satellites) may point towards the goal ?
Line up the star with the second ring planet and see where it point out towards.
If you do the same for the other side, you may be able to triangulate

It may not be selectable, but you could bookmark the Col 70 system and then move much further out in the map and select a system that is roughly in line with that bookmark and your location. Not perfect, but would work as a reasonable indicator. Then, step 2: move a few hundred light years to the side and repeat
