Thanks my fellow Rifter :D
Btw, did you find any US?

Not recently. I think there were no new discoveries after the one I found few weeks ago. After that I spent few days in the area looking for things, but I did not record anywhere the bodies I checked :/ (this is the way I found it, but it is not necessarily the best way, quite possibly the worst way knowing me, but here it goes ;) https://youtu.be/p7xO1FB9s6M )

Evening. Hope someone can help me:

I am at one of the alien wreck sites, with an Unknown Probe and an Unknown Artefact. Have managed to get in to the alien base, and found the room with the Unknown Link's. However, for some reason I cannot scoop one - they are there and selectable, but it just keeps clipping through when I drive over them.

How do I pick one up?

You need to shoot it down so it falls on the floor. If you did and still cannot pick it up then make sure your cargo is not full. If it is not full, and you still cannot pick it up, then go back to your ship, relog and try again :)

Are you trying to carry all three items at once? the SRV can only carry 2 at a time.

This worked. I left the UA and UP in the main chamber and couldn't think why I couldn't scoop. I assume if I shot it I would destroy it, so didn't try! Doh!

Thank you!

Take a look at HIP 16497. It has two ammonia type planets and just one landable.

It's also the system where Bill Turner had his asteroid base 'Versteck', in Premonition.

The perfect candidate! Thanks, will do :).

Couldn't see your find in that video, lol ;), I think at that altitude it would be very easy to miss!
Re which systems & bodies you searched, you don't run EDDiscovery?

So apparently, in Beta 2.4 the barnacles have gotten some odd green seepage below them on the ground, likely related to thargoid interactions with them. So, I have a thought. Is it possible that barnacles are the seeds of new surface sites? Perhaps this seepage is the next stage of things - it's spreading organic matter to surrounding land, which would develop into portions of the site. Of course, if these are actually crashed mother ships and not bases, then this doesn't really work.

In my drive for Trade Elite before 2.4 I've been mixing in some Economy& Business class passenger hauling to break the recurring monotony of Imp Slaves-Indium-Imp Slaves-Indium, anyway I noticed in the passenger mission list there is now a sightseeing trip to Octavia Quinton's derelict asteroid base- is this a new thing?

Video is compressed, on my screen I did spot it right away

But of course that depends on your screen, settings etc, go to existing site and try to find it, then you will know for sure. There was one inside the shadow of the crater walls that I couldn't spot even with the laser pointing at it until I practically hit it :)
I run EDdiscovery but what if I missed it? The one I discovered was searched before by other pilots you know :)
Search like this will give you candidates known to EDSM, this is 100ly around HIP 16xxx https://beta.spansh.co.uk/bodies/search/0BA1A544-8AF5-11E7-BF5D-96FBED7EE8E8

Cool! I didn't know about that, where is it?
It's not very realistic though that the base was abandoned, someone in her hierarchy would've taken it over, or another faction.

Lol, funnily enough, I did wonder if that was the US, but I dismissed it as being a crater, turns out I was right in the 1st place!
Re video compression, true! I hadn't though of that. And yea I was thinking I will have to go to a known site & see what's a safe height for me to search at.

I bet the other cmdrs who missed your US find were gutted! Lol
True that searching a system more than once could be useful, but counter to that it could mean that the lack of recording which systems are being searched leaves some systems not being searched at all.
So ideally each system searched should be logged to an easily accessed list (like the Cannons US site list), with the list showing how many times each landable body has been searched, & should only be searched twice once all candidates have been searched once (get the relatively low hanging fruit 1st principle).
Btw, why search from 100 LYs HIP 16xxx? Surely it should be 150 LYs from Merope?

So which systems have you searched?

It is a bank holiday weekend, I had a bottle of particulary strong cider sitting in the sun so I cannot answer your question in any sort of raesonable way - SORRY :) I will try later. I had some really good candidates, but came back emptyhanded :(

Lol, mind you don't fall asleep in the sun & get heat stroke!
And yea I should be out in the sun, or at least out, but I had a late night last night, & anyway, no one is about :(

We have been fighting that fight since day 1, yet the overwhelming opinion is that they are shipwrecks. But we have never given up! When history is written they will admit we were right and our superior Thargoid Intellect surpasses you primitive apes.

I've brought over my Imperial Eagle from the bubble to Merope, renamed it from Mosquito (it was designed to annoy & delay enemies of Salome ;)) to Blackbird SR-71 (as my Eagle is now going to be used for high speed, high altitude reconnaissance, & it's black, that name's perfect! :) & that was 1 cool plane).

As it's much less likely to be under fire I've stripped out the shld booster & AMFU (needed the slot for a DSS), although I have kept it's 1D HRP just incase I got shot at leaving a base (& it's 1t weight means I only lose 6/8 m/s). I've also kept the shields for the same reason, although I'd like to swap the 3A G4 ELP shld gen for a 3D G4 ELP one, that'll have to wait until I return to the bubble. I can't bring myself to run shieldless btw! :p
Anyway it's speed has gone up from 478/638 to 491/655 (I could boost the speed by a further 8/11 m/s by not having the DSS, but obviously I'll earn more exploring with it, & it will save me time coming back to rescan anything I wanted to).
Also at a later point, I would like to take the 3A EP thrusters from G3 DD to G4. I think it's plenty quick enough for now anyway :). J/R is a reasonable 25.1-25.95 LYs btw.

Anyone else have a dedicated speed ship for reconnaissance or other high speed duties?

Lol, I think ED need to buff the EPs thrusters speed, the real Blackbird was capable of ~Mach 3.5(+)/ 2300 Mph/ 1028 m/s!!

I am very sorry to say that this is one of the biggest Frontier mistakes - to limit the speed IN SPACE :-O
