Hopefully Frontier remembers by then. I know Mengy will.

I've already bookmarked it and written notes in my journal. Plus I'll be sending reminder emails to Frontier bi-monthly from now on until we can land on ELW's and investigate this storyline. They'll remember, trust me. ;)

(I am kidding, of course!)

If the system with base is 170 LY from Sol and it took them 1000 years, then another 70 LY would take no less than 400-500 years... seems unplausible... Anyway, they stated explicitly "a few light years off route".

He talks about it being a "blue ball in the sky", so it must be a blue star close by then?

EDIT: perusing the gal map, COL 285 SECTOR HM-V D2-100 is a blue-white star and only a few light years away from the base...

OR

HIP 12656 is a close by blue supergiant!!!

Can I just point out something I have noticed in my past week while hanging around at the ruins in synuefe...in the sky, easily visible is a bright blue star. I have always been attracted to it because it is so large and beautiful. Unfortunately my image below does not do it justice. The pic is taken from the large landing pad at the ruins, looking west just a couple of minutes ago: (it is the only big blue star in the sky)

Interesting, Orions folly stays on map once discovered - just warped back in sytem and there she is http://i.imgur.com/Zpq4vCm.png
Is that usual behaviour for "hidden" stuff ?

I don't know, some people can see target markers for these new surface bases, I however have yet to see a single target marker for any of them. I've been to Dav's Hope and this new Orion's Folly several times and have not once seen a marker for any of them yet. Not sure why, seems very inconsistent though for some commanders to see them and some to not.

Frawd, that's not a blue star, that's the newly blue colored Pleiades Nebula for 2.2. You just aren't used to seeing it in blue!

The "clamp" things are not only on the big circle, but all around the site in all kinds or directions.

Yes, as I mentioned they are near some of the obelisk structures and also line the outer walls of the ruins...could all of these be used for ships to dock....or maybe for one massive ship to dock over the entire ruins?

Ah, no wonder it is so prominent in the sky

For those looking at the obelisk audio...

As it was my very first forum post, my initial post on this topic had to wait for moderator approval. Consequently, it got inserted about 18 hours worth of pages back in this thread. Rather than re-post it, I'll put a link to the post here.

Whether or not anyone agrees with my hypothesis, I want to make sure that any interested parties get see the post as it has links to a four-hour audio recording of one of the obelisks as well as multiple Audacity projects with all of the data broken out into individual audio clips.

Fly safe, Commanders!

How many metres radius/diameter is the circle between the "clamps" of the large pad?
How large is the circular part of one of the non-human crashed ships?

I calculated (roughly) the radius of the large landing pad to be between 78m, so a diameter of 156m.

*Apologies..my previous calculation totally screwed up the number of metres per 0.001 degrees of arc...now corrected

Fair warning for all. I was shipping a load of UAs recently and the cargo hatch failed in SC, but there was no audio "Module Malfunction" warning. I just assumed the hit (as I was carrying a lot) instantly took out the cargo hatch and this was just the "Cargo Hatch Inoperable" message you get when it or any module hits 0% integrity (which doesn't have an audio accompaniment). Luckily I saw the secondary message in the top right panel saying "Cargo hatch failure, jettisoning cargo" and hit emergency drop asap. I lost two pieces and still had 10% hatch integrity.

Will report as a bug when I get a chance, but yeah, for those handling UAs/UPs this is a big hazard.

The voice warning for overheating while fuel scooping is also gone - you will get the buzzer, but the female voice alert is no longer there. Don't get toasted!

These listening posts, not seen these before.

They are dotted around the outer edge of the bubble?

Do we have any details on them, like how many, are they uniformly distributed? etc...

They seem like a potential resource for information or early warning of events and such, or in OOC terms, a method for Frontier to pass information to the players.

I'm at COL 285 SECTOR UZ-O C6-9 B6, I can't see anything at -87.04, -10.52 even several Km up in the air. Is it still there?

It was therr an hour ago when I left for 2nd crash site...

Try switching the coords ;) It did the trick for me, couldn't find it at -87/-10.

It is clearly visible from 7-9km as a y-shaped pattern

I surveyed most of the systems within a dozen LY or so of Orion's Folly, looking for ELWs or terraformable HMC or WW. Didn't find much; the closest possible candidate was a terraformable HMC at HIP 3589 B 2. That system had no landable planets.

Couple of possibilities come to mind:
They claim in the logs the ELW they were supposed to land on is nearby and visible in the sky. It would have to be in the same system. Could something have happened to it over the centuries that it is no longer an ELW? Or perhaps was destroyed?

If it is in a different system, it could well be in one of the populated systems. It is on the edge of the bubble and these events happened centuries ago presumably. I haven't checked these.

Maybe the survivor ventured out and is still in the black between systems.

I drove around the settlement in my SRV looking for clues, but my Wave Scanner seems to be on the fritz. I'll have to take it into the shop.

Came across a few USS's and picked up an occupied escape pod and a couple of Ancient Artifacts. Took all of these to the Canonn Institute, which fortunately is not too far and has a black market. I don't think these are related.

Thanks, I'll try that!

Edit: Hmm, nope. One thing is that at -87/-10 there was a PoI with a crashed nav beacon and a parked Cobra. I wonder if the existence of a temporary PoI can override/suppress a permanent one... let me head back to -87/-10 and see if I get it this time.

Edit 2: OK, this time it was there, and clearly visible from above. Weird.
