Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I just found Language 12. In it, Ram Tah says that he will "dig deeper into the information collected by you and other explorers to learn the visual form" of the Guardians' language. Does that mean that he will at some point provide an update to our software to allow us to translate the glyphs on the obelisks? If so, that could potentially be the key we need to solving the entire puzzle.

I'm outta patience atm, but I believe the blank combinations are required to unlock a new one to scan to get the alternatives.

The problem I see is that means there is far too many combinations to need to run though even after finding the right mix to get the ones that need to be done.

The reason it seems easier in open/PG is that other commanders are scanning said parts and tripping those circumstances. But without ernest coordination on the instance effort the results are skewed I think.

I need to run and test it somehow later. I currently only have the 13 base ones done. I need to figure out the combination for the new ones.

phew, catching up with all the new discoveries is kinda hard now.
anyway, not that long ago (yesteday?) i mentioned that i dont think that we have two alien species here.

Now i read more of the new data and as i said, even more similarities. Oh and also that they are Thargoid-ish

Red Skinned (History 10):
Unknown Probe

Green Skinned (Was it actually mentioned?):
Unknown Artifact

Electromagnetic Propulsion (Tech 12):
This doesnt look like a combustion, more like energy...or electromagnetic propulsion
It could also explain the "knockback" and why we cant scan the wake. If it is a magnetic wake, we cant enter it with a metallic object. The alien looks entirely organic.

Genetic Technologie (Tech 11):
Mhhh wasnt it said that this is an engineered thing?

Geometric Patters (Culture 12):
An octagon shaped ship that is perfectly symetric on each axis...if that isnt love for geometric shapes, what is?

Gel Cocoons (History 12):
Again, UA, UP and US all have that "Capsule"

Biological Weapons (History 8):
Again the UA which corrodes our ships, our stations and is countered with another genetical engineered thing. Basically Medicine.

Powerful Shields (Tech 13):
We all have seen the videos of those attacks and we didnt even scratch the shields, not even with
"Even a Small Plasma Accelerator will destroy a well armed hundred tonne ship with a single shot. The large version has been known to be used as a planetary assault weapon, destroying selected areas of cities from orbit."

Outmatched Tech (Tech 10):
It only says "small-class spaceships" and the Alien isnt exactly "small"

Reproduction (Biology 8), Cutting Arm-Ridges (Biology 11):
When standing was most comfortable it sounds like a species with an exoskeleton.
Also the mentioned ridge they used for cutting sounds like
or something like that. it doesnt sound like a mammal at all

Pack Mentality (Culture 8), Telepathy (Tech 8), No Secrets (Tech 7):
Again this sounds more like a swarm, a hivemind

Huge Population (History 9, 11), Colonisation (History 12, 13):
David once said in an interview that the "Thargoids are there and they have far more space than we have"
atleast i think it was david in an interview. sadly i cant find it anymore since now "Thargoid" only leads to the new stuff.

Soooooo? What do you think? One alien or two?

I say I don't have enough rep for you, sir. This simply fits way too well with the lore, the alien ship we found, the crash sites and the knowledge from the Guardians.

As I suggested in the bug report thread...have one of the devs who worked on this, who knows how it is supposed to work, and how to solve it go into Live environment and run through it to make sure everything is working exactly as they intended...preferably doing in both Solo and a private group...

Absolutely in Solo and private group, yeah I guess a developer could do it from home. The impact of disconnections needs to be weighed in... I realise that un-intended disconnections are a problem for the game the Question is how does it impact the Alien Ruins mission/puzzle etc.

And not just the disconnects, but how the mission message delay, not showing up, showing up when doing nothing...how is that apparent lag affecting things...

I have a theory.

I took the map from the front page and numbered each of the UAs like so:
SdszhIZ.jpg

Looking at it like this, there are 105 combinations of the different artifacts. Plus the addition of each individual artifact makes it 120 different possible combinations to find the 81. So far each combination of artifacts has only worked at one obelisk, and a different one each time. Also none have worked at the beacons (yet, I've only tried 4 combinations so far)

An 'X' means I got a result with the combination, an O means it worked with no beacon or obelisk.

What do you think?

Lets try again where the imgs actually show up

Didn't one of the data logs make a mention about their demise?

Not as far as I can see, but I don't think all messages have been posted into the spreadsheet; however I would expect any demise message (if it exists) would be in the final tranche rather than the middle tranche

Yes it did. They are dead.

Some lost colonists may have survived or their AI or their combat animals. We need more logs. :S

Which message was this?

Well, not everything must be WORK WORK WORK! So here, have some photos of many Canonn Commanders.... at work.

There was an interesting thing, however: I decided to follow the 65º line hoping to find... anything, and I realized 2 things:
1) I could not find a single POI. No-a-single-one, in more than 1 hour flying straight.
2) When I landed and got my SRV out I immediatly started picking up Tech signals.

I found 3 crashed nav beacons in less than one hour. 2 from the Empire, one from the Alliance. This is way more often than usual. I wonder if those superpowers did have knowledge of the Guardians prior to our arrival.

Cheers!

I'd say definitely

Sadly, the ruins data mission is another miss from FD for me.

Brute forcing appears to be the only valid approach. I'm not halfway through the combos yet and it's just a bit tedious.
Is it too much to provide some hints, maybe have the obelisk glow a different color if you have one or two of the correct items, maybe have Ram Tah provide more useful failure messages.

That plus the constant adjudication server crashes, missing messages, and the mysterious reset of the obelisk positioning is all a bit meh.

It seems obvious that there are more sites out there somewhere, but again absolutely no logical way to find them.

Fantastic art, great sound, the ground and sky look amazing, but once again a lack of interactivity and poor story telling leave that empty feeling of 'what might have been'.

Oh well, nothing better to do - back to the grind-scan :(

It is somewhat brute force, but there's a hinty logic to it- if you scan each obelisk with a single item, the ones you do not get the fail message on are the ones keyed to that item. Once you know which monoliths are keyed to which item, it's much more rational to work through. I was done up to 13 in a reasonable time frame.

Zenith's map on the front page of the thread will tell you which ones are keyed to what.

Yeah I was going to head out there and do my part but after reading a bunch of these posts I'm not going to bother. Way to much blind testing. If I'm going to grind for something it better at least provide some benefit. I'll stay in the bubble and continue blindly searching for missions with Modular Terminals... Ugh.

I swear if part of this is Open-only and FD have STILL not implemented a half decent Crime and Punishment system I will be annoyed. It seems that Solo/Private Group players can only get 13 bits of the data but Open players can obtain more.

Careful folks the pew pew brigade is at the ruins destroying parked ships, its sad tbh.

I just don't understand why FD do nothing about this. If this event is so important to the community, why punish the good players allowing those jerks do whatever they want?

Had you been there 2 hours ago, me and my pals would have been there to die for you while you ran away! :D

I just arrived from work, sat down to relax playing some Elite and got killed for no reason! And my bank account is not so big.

I have slightly different results from this spread sheet. Some is the same and some is different.

Does any one else have the same. Im wondering if the results are different for different players or different instances. Solo/Open/Private.

I know this has been talked about before, but i couldnt find a definitive answer.. So quick capsule question/answer now.
