Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I have officially tried every permutation item by item and obelisk by obelisk. Since order is not a factor it takes a lot of round trips scanning each one. I only have 12. Someone said Solo is working as intended, I beg to differ. The only other people who I have seen that have gotten more have went into Open and then back into Solo. I have tried that didnt seem to work. Didnt get any new obelisks or combinations.

Have you tried single items?
Have you tried combining a standard item with the Relic taken from one of the beacon towers?

I can confirm the following things:
-Mission is received automatically upon docking in Meene, Felice Dock
-The Primary key connection to the Obelisk groups is as shown in the current maps
-The Totem and the Relic! are valid/necessary secondary keys.
-Playing in Solo or alone in a PG, the following 13 Messages and only these can be found: History8/10/11/12/14/15, Biology7/9, Language8/12/14, Technology7/10
-If you have the incorrect primary key, you get the failure message.
-If you have the correct primary key, but incorrect secondary, you get no message.
-Both correct keys give you the data message, if not received previously.
-Both correct keys give you audio about message, but no data message, if data message has been received before.
-By using the primary key connections to groups, unlocking comes down to finding the correct secondary.

I believe, that the above points are true in multiple CMDR instances with the additional effect of somehow activating additional Obelisks and hence messages.

I'll just back this up as consistent with my own experiences. It's a busywork puzzle but NOT completely random if you follow the primary keys from Zenith's map- but I can't see a way past 13 messages in solo.

Hey there,
want to mention that if you relog/got disco you should have a look at your Cargohold when in Game again... headed back to my ship to switch Items and realised my Cargohold was empty (all Items were at my ship though, 100% sure i had Urn and Orb at my SRV as i logged out before)

EDIT: disregard again, I think the servers are being very sluggish in updating stuff. Sure enough, by doing some null scans on already completed obelisks I got missing fail messages coming through. I'll try F4 again later, if I can figure out how to reset the obelisk.

Working as intended! lol

Actually that's not what he said. He refused to confirm that it could be completed in Solo but did confirm that it was operating as designed.

This would suggest to me that it is highly likely that it *can't* be completed in solo without multiple commanders activating multiple obelisks, possibly whilst in a wing. (I wonder if it even requires a wing of four scanning simultaneously to get some of the data given the reward level.)
Thats also not what he said. He said he couldn;t cofirm the reset timer of obelisks in solo. Nothing more. Also that resetting was working as intended.

Does anyone have a copy of Yesterdays Ancient Relics map with just the 1-15 obelisks marked on it? I want to start by scanning the first 15 that are well known, but I can't find any map to coordinate with the data table in the first google doc. Even the embedded map in that table has changed to the new A-G notation.

This one has more markings, but might help?
I don't remember who it was who made the original, that info is buried in this very thread though.
Also, that map is missing a few artifacts, I marked them on the map:

Note to self: check before picking up ancient things from ship to SRV, and make sure the ancient things are actually ON the SRV before moving. :p

From my limited experience so far, I can say that this is prettu much true.

Working as intended! lol

And sure enough, the correct items made it work properly. Clearing the stack brings things back to normal it seems. People filling in the Spreadnaught need to bear this in mind as there are quite a few false trails there.

I just want to wrap my head around what's been learned so far, before I actually head to the ruins and try to contribute to this endeavor...

As I'm understanding this, there are currently:

  • Four "main" objects, which are required to activate an obelisk: Orb, Casket, Urn, Tablet
  • Two "secondary" objects, which don't activate an obelisk, but can potentially be used unlock an active one: Totem, Relic
  • There are a total of fifteen obelisks that can be activated, scattered around about 160 obelisks in total, unevenly distributed among 8 different clusters.
  • Each cluster is associated with at least one "main" object.
  • Different combinations of objects aboard your SRV unlock different data when scanning an active obelisk.
  • It may be that a new instance will reset where the active obelisks are in a cluster, but the cluster themselves are static.
  • People seem to be having trouble decoding this mess in open, because not everyone is in the same instance, and can easily move between different instances as they move about the ruins.

Does that sum up the very basics, or am I missing or misunderstanding something here?

Has anyone been recording what "PAttern xxxx Obelisk Data" they recieve for each of the successful data mining scan at the ancient ruins? Not seen it on the various spreadsheets out there.
I think I got Delta for Biology 7, and Alpha & Gamma for Historic 14.
Language 14 = Delta and Gamma
Language 8 = Epsilon and Epsilon
Technology 7 = Epsilon
Technology 10 = Epsilon and Delta
History 11 = Gamma
History 12 = Epsilon
History 15 = Alpha and disconnect. Reconnect = Epsilon & Epsilon (all in solo btw) So maybe these are just random....

List of current bugs with the ruin:

-obelisks don't relight in solo
-some obelisks give the "already scanned"-error at ~25% scan progress bar
-messages are randomly delayed
-obelisks sometimes don't turn off in PG/open (then cause the "already scanned"-error)
-obelisks that do turn back on in PG/open then also can not be scanned with a new item combo (also give "already scanned"-error)
-relic-covers/relics sometimes move half way up or stay in the ground
-special obelisks turn on only in open/PG (randomly? when people log in?)
-special obelisks are visible for some people and not for others in the same instance
-special obelisks are lost when srvs move closer or away
-special obelisks are lost when people leave the instance
-messages overspill to nearby players in ships/srvs, they then can get >13 unlocks

since it seems to be taking the mods 30+ minutes to approve my posts I'm hoping someone sees this, I have a previous post that mentions this, but has anyone thought that it is more than just a casket and an urn. maybe each urn will yield a different result. (I.e. urn U1+2 vs. U1+3 vs U2+3)
