Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I don't suppose anyone who has correctly scanned all 13 base (solo) obelisks in one session has checked their bookmarks have they...?

while I didn't checked my bookmarks specifically the moment after 13 scans, I can confirm that I got no new bookmarks, because I keep all my bookmarks organized and always rename them in specific way, so a new default entry would be noticed immediately. Though I did my scans before CG, so it might be good if somebody else checks and confirms. But to be honest, I hardly doubt that sneaking in bookmark would be the case, it just doesn't make sense and feels stupid. FD might as well send a commercial to my spambox with a clue in it then....

I think FD is not following us on this thread anymore. They are probably just focusing on developing something else, patch, new release or whatever.

next clue for the current puzzle :D

I don't think using the ruin to aim is the right approach. Things in motion like that can't really be drawn out, but it can be used as a visual guide for something you can see from the planet. The circles could be reference points, like nebulae, and the obelisks patterns could be constellations in between. The placement of obelisk patterns is important, important enough FD had to change just after people found the ruins.

I think the obelisk patterns are RNG. I the beta, there was a third layout.

Has anyone tried carrying An Ancient Relic, Urn, Orb, Casket, Tablet and Totem, an Artifact, probe & fragment as well as as many different types of data and then go out get hyperdicted by our new alien friends?

I tried but it hasn't happened yet. But I have been in and around Maia with everything in my hold and flying around the Pleides Sector and nothing so far.

I scanned all 13 and checked my bookmarks - which is easy to do because I don't use bookmarks - and nothing. But I haven't turned in the CG to Meene yet (running around looking for aliens right now with stuff in my cargo hold).

By the way, I wrote a bigger post about trying to decipher the patterns last night - basically that I mapped them out as a Gray Code (binary reflected code) into a base-18, and also as a base-9, numbering system trying to determine if the three rows and two columns of the obelisk pattern were vectors in 3D space that could be plotted to form an image. I have several pages of notebook notes trying to do this and nothing seemed to work. But the post appeared to have been caught by the moderation system because it's not in my activity and doesn't appear here. But I wanted to say that I tried this to see if anyone had tried anything similar and we could compare what we did.

Okay wait, other people are finding bookmarks that they don’t remember placing too????

Over a month ago, after spending a lot of time at the ruins doing research for my map theory, I at one point noticed that I had a bookmark out under the Heart & Soul Nebula on a system which I’d never been too. I was honestly so intrigued that I actually flew out there to investigate, but it was a dud of a system that didn’t even have any landables in it. In the end I figured I’d placed it by accident, a misclick or something, while I was laying out where the R-R line goes through (this was right after I’d realized that a ground line at the old ruins precisely mapped out the R-R line).

How many others are noticing randomly placed bookmarks too? Is this an actual thing related to the ruins?

Wait, seriously?? I noticed i had 2 bookmarks out there, one directly between H&S nebulas and one further out... I'm 90% sure i didn't place those myself, while interested in their mystery have never been out that way.... I'm at work now so can't get on to see what exact systems they are but would be intrigued to compare... [???]

I'm not aware of anything beyond Engineers being able to place bookmarks yet.

Michael

Well, since we're currently discussing whether Ram Tah has set random bookmarks after the CG this is a deliciously ambiguous response :) Unless you're referring to their ability to add their own location to your bookmarks I guess.

Moon position does not give a fixed point in the sky for alignment.

The moon is in sync with the orbit time rotation of the ruin planet. It will orbit the planet exactly 23 times, in one orbit/revolution of the planet.

The moon orbits the planet in 7.2 hours. The planet orbits the Y-Dwarf in 165.6 hours. It also rotates around it's own axis in 165.6 hours.

For alignment purposes, this means that every sunset or sunrise the sky box will be exactly the same (except for local bodies). If you use the ruin to aim at a star, you will hit the same star in 6.9 days.

If you use the moon you will hit 23 different stars, before they repeat.

Thank you CMDR.

I think I tried to decipher your meaning about this a few pages back and lost myself. This is much clearer. This means that this specific planet is a perfect place to draw a map of a certain astrological layout - every sunset or sunrise (of the ringed Y-dwarf) are identical.

This would imply that we should ignore the local bodies as their motion is probably quite complex compared to this 6.9 day cycle - unless they also fit neatly into the sunrise/sunset cycle of 1B? How can we find out or calculate this complex motion?

Someone reconstructed the system (or part of it) in an application recently (the interface looked very similar to Stellarium if I recall from the screenshot) - does someone know which post it was in or who did it?

YET being the keyword!!!!

Thanks Michael, then my original theory is correct, I must have created the bookmark accidentally while panning around the galaxy map. I’ll bet a lot of us are doing that without even knowing it.

EDIT: oh wait, BEYOND engineers????

So Ram Tah could be doing shenanigans to our maps???

While I agree that it could be easy to accidentally bookmark on pc, i play on xbox where it is virtually impossible to bookmark by accident.
Not having a dig at ya, just wanted to put it out there
