I tried to determine which star it was aiming for and it looks like CD-39 14212 could be a good candidate with one ELW.
Also have you noticed some really odd poc marks

Just a heads up, in the GenShip thread here a Commander reports human voices and static near the main transmitter. Anyone checked this out?

On the asteroid, it might well be we have to find that piece of rock (or is it a reason to implement asteroid bases in 2.3? /tinfoil).
Since we have no real clue where the ship had been at the encounter, maybe the morse/lights/static could provide a clue to the asteroid's position. Wouldn't be too unusual to implement some kind of a warning in the ship's transmissions.

I can confirm. Our vessel, the Voidmaster, were there, I took a fighter under telepresence to check the ship. There were differend sounds, including static. Although we actually tried to destroy the menace (and haven't succeeded, not even scratch on the hull, and we were using plasma turrets). I envy the captains of the past.

It's not been reported as found yet

I'm also for the hunt of Tech 06. I will visit as much alpha Sites as nesessary to scan all obelisks in the "Tech"-clusters.

So we think, according to infos gathered out of V2.2, Tech 06 must be found in a alpha-ruin with the combo Orb+Totem.
But if my "Mission" will fail, there must be these reasons:

1) There is a bug with Tech 06 which prevents us from getting it.
2) Since Version 2.3 Tech 06 is, out of whichever reasons, hidden in ruins layout beta (or gamma)?
3) There is another combo for Tech 06 since V2.3 (i know about some mismatches for some combos in V2.2, so it can be there is antother one now in 2.3, see table "Algorythmus ..." on my spreadsheet, i don't remember the CMDR who posted this)?

It was locked in the beta, before the trailer was released.

Its also entirely possible that its got something completly different it in it or we need to find something/Its in a different system, Just so far other than stumbling along a relic/unknown/etc we have no other leads than the fact the system seems to match up.
That or the system is the end goal and we're missing something/waiting
 
The question I have is this: Is there any way to empirically test in-game if the ship is or isn't in motion? Perhaps dropping out somewhere nearby without obtaining a destination lock?.

Red shift measurements? Taking some captions of the star background in front and behind the ship, and comparing them with pictures out of the ship instance, looking for doppler effects in the star light caused by the ship relativistic frame of reference.
