Alpha/Beta Insurance - Should we get it and how?

In the PC version of the game, backers/founders who pledged money to the original Kickstarter campaign were able to receive one of two different insurance rates, the Alpha Insurance (97.5%) and the Beta Insurance (96.25%) as opposed to the standard insurance rate of 95%. This isn't the case on the Xbox One version, even for backers of the original PC game. I would like to start a discussion on how these two different rates would come to the Xbox One version, if they ever do.

I believe that should come to the Xbox One version in the form of timed exclusives. The Xbox One Game Preview for Elite Dangerous released on June 15th. I believe any players who play the game from then to the CQC Update should receive Alpha Insurance. Any players that join in after that time, up until the game's completion (when it becomes full price for everyone else) should receive the Beta Insurance. Any players who buy the game after it's completion will be stuck with the standard insurance.

This sort of follows how it was done on the Kickstarter, those who pledged enough money were able to play the early Alpha of the game, which also got them the Alpha Insurance. Those who pledged less were able to play the Beta, getting them Beta Insurance. Everyone else would only get Standard.

To put the insurance differences in perspective, I will use three ships as examples.
An Anaconda costs 146,969,451cr stock. If it is destroyed, you play 5% of that, 7,348,473cr. With Beta Insurance, you pay 3.75%, or 5,511,354cr. With Alpha, you pay 2.5%, or 3,674,236cr. The difference is staggering. Let's try a cheaper ship, the Fer-de-Lance. Stock, it costs 51,567,040cr. Standard rebuy costs are 2,578,352cr. Beta 1,933,764cr. Alpha 1,289,176cr. Even smaller, let's go with the Vulture. Stock price straight out of the station is 4,925,615cr. Standard rebuy cost is 246,281cr, for Beta it is 184,711cr, and for Alpha it is 123,140cr. If you want to see how much you'd have to pay using your ship with your upgrades, you can check out ED Shipyard. Simply change the "Standard Insurance (95%)" near the bottom of the site to Beta or Alpha to see the different in rebuy prices.

So what do you think? Should the Xbox One version have access to these cheaper insurance costs? And how?

I recall reading from a post that current game preview program players will be rewarded/acknowledged in some way.

The reduced insurance costs would be a nice way to do that for sure. If we don't get some kind of reward like that, I'd like to see a mechanic where your insurance rates lower as you increase in pilot rank.

I agree, and also think if a player bought in and played for a certain amount of time(not too much, just enough to know he didn't buy it then shelve it almost immediately) should get Founders status.

This is a nice idea and may even be what dave is planning for xbox one preview purchasers.
Is there no way to buy extra insurance in game? There is also a cargo insurance rate of 0% shown on the right hand panel in my ship, but whats the point of showing you the percentage rate for cargo or ship insurance, if you are never able to buy fully comp with no compulsory excess?

it could also be though that we might get a special shipyard discount as the reward (or even an exclusive ship) 😊
Ah, who am i kidding, it'll just be special paint jobs or decals...

I like that idea too Doc!

Should mention that if you have a catastrophic loss of credits due to a proven BUG in the game, (My Docking Computer Disaster in my case) you can file a TICKET with tech support and request those lost credits to be put back into your account. I had filed a bug report on the Bug Report forum within minutes of losing my fully upgraded ASP TWICE due to a DC malfunction, along with the loss of a full load of rare item cargo in the first ship destruction.

I submitted a ticket and estimated my losses at just over 6 million credits. About 12 hours after submitting this ticket, I got a reply back from FD support via email informing me that 7 million credits had been placed into my bank account to cover my estimated losses along with their sincere apology for the inconvenience. :)

I booted up the game and sure enough, I was 7 million credits richer than I was when I signed out the night before! :D Needless to say, I was very pleased and glad that I had taken the time to fully document the circumstances surrounding this loss, to the degree that the support staff was already aware of the incident and had been waiting for me to file a request for reimbursement.

EDIT: But I also need to mention that there continues to be a serious BUG with the web based ticket creating pages on the FD website. At least when using a Macintosh, the user gets stuck in an infinite loop between the sign in page and the ticket submission page. Completing the log in and hitting SUBMIT takes you to the page with the OPEN A TICKET link on it. Clicking on the OPEN A TICKET link takes you back to the sign in page, and so it goes on forever, back and forth between these two pages and never being able to open, create and submit a ticket.

In my case, I emailed tech support informing them of this problem, and they created a ticket for me, and emailed me the link. That is how I was able to ask for my credits above. However, they have yet to fix the infinite loop bug, so if I ever need to file another ticket, I am going to have to email them again.

Founders and backers in general get access to several unique decals, and a "Founder's World" system where everything, ships and mods, are 15% off.
You can read more about the liveries here.

And if you're interested, you can read about the pledge rewards here from the original Kickstarter.

Yes, by all means, support every chance you can to further devalue the investments of early backers and continue FD's onward destruction of it's own credibility. After all, what right do backers have to expect that the early promises and incentives made to them would actually be respected and maintained for any length of time. Especially when there were Xboners to be sucked in.

Except backers do NOT get their backing/founding rewards on Xbox One, only PC. As it stands, there are no bonuses on the Xbox One version of the game. As the game is not cross-platform, giving Xbox One players any sort of bonuses in the form of PC Backer bonuses does not affect PC players in any way.

I am in no way de-valueing PC player rewards, I'm simply offering a way to integrate them into the console versions.

There was early backers for the PC now there is a separate group who are early backing the xbox one version. I would think people would be happy the game is growing and the team is getting more money to invest in a great game.

Xboners are backers and founders? I thought the game was already released back in November and was past any such Alpha stage to then just get tweaked for our satisfaction. Now you buyers want rewards too? How about some free decals when you start buying paint jobs!
Meanwhile the PC investors keep demanding more paint jobs to errr BUY plus spend more on upgrading GPUs and upgrading to HOTAS joysticks. You lot come over as all so tight ! Be thankful it ever got Translated for you by the REAL BACKERS invested money and input.

It just show's what snob's PC player's are when you start throwing fit's over nothing, it is literally nothing big or special anymore. Just a slight bonus you can currently get anyway after month's of play or going to Li-Yong Rui controlled space.

Yes, exactly. Now nothing more than worthless empty devalued incentives designed to suck in new backers. Don't worry, the X boner s will only be the favored, catered to class until the well runs dry and there's a new platform to suck in. Make them think that there are advantages to be had by signing up early, then take them away and devalue them to appease the next group. How honorable...

How does Xbox One players getting cool incentives affect you at all as a PC player?

You seriously want to binge off "the REAL BACKERS invested money and input"?
You really know how to ask for more doncha...

Sp if you acknowledge it is worthless except for the insurance(which I don't care one way or the other for) why throw a fit toward's Xbox early adopter's for wanting this mostly worthless feature? As I said being up in arm's over a feature that's already been made worthless by other addition's to the game that bassically give the biggest advantage of Founder status to any player who just travel's to a certain area of space reflect's badly on the PC crowd.

I didn't know adding a feature already in the PC version of the game over to the Xbox version was taking away from backer's gameplay experience. Does it keep you up at night that a console that doesn't even connect to your version of the game gets something differently than you did? Does it ruin your entire gaming experience?

If it does, then there is something seriously wrong with you and I would suggest getting psychiatric help. Perhaps you can find a therapist in your area?

On the contrary, when FD offers exclusive incentives to motivate players to back their attempt to launch a new product, then devalues those benefits for any reason, it doesn't reflect poorly on those who accepted their offer in good faith. It reflect poorly on FD.

doncha...OP
I have no need to be bothered by it. However, you are not respecting what "the REAL BACKERS invested money and input" were contracted to. The game got RELEASED. You are now simply adding feedback to a translated release generously handed over to you. No you can not have free perks. END OF.
