Alternative to infinite probes

Yeah dont see why they couldn't add advance probes with larger radius's via synthesizing -

I dislike synthesis as much as I dislike Matt Smith's magic wand sonic screwdriver, but at least this would keep synthesis optional. I really don't want it to be mandatory (nor can it be, due to non-Horizon players).

That is the reason, non-horizons owners particularly,
why i suggested the scanner to have a backup scan mode, when not using probes
or being out of ammo.
I dislike synthesis aswell, but it is a part of the game, like MC is too,
and not involving those parts in the probe gameplay show how disconnected the game
is and ever will be by design.

Because non horizons owners can't sythersize ammo

Have backup small radius scan via the module when out of probes, as suggested in the OP?

Here's an idea.

Now, bear with me.

How about infinite probes?

That's a slippery slope - next you'll be asking for infinite food, infinite lives, infinite distances via telepresence, infinite number of refuels using your fuel scoop, infinite materials down on planets, infinite ammo for your pulse laser... Were will it stop?

Err.... You don't need probes to detail scan a planet anymore. That's replaced by the zoom in and out mechanic.

Probes are for mapping which is entirely new. Mapping is guaranteed to be slower than the existing surface scan unless it only takes 3 probes. However, mapping is infinitely (haha) faster than the current mapping method (eyeballing)

You have to lol.

Wait, infinite food? You mean I've been paying for Animal Meat and such this whole time for NOTHING? D:

IF I were to suggest a synthesized solution, I'd go for fuel scooping selected gas giants.

I'd give all ships +1/2 util slots, move ADS/DSS replacement to utils and add an optional module, probe fabricator scoop or maybe even material scoop.

Gonna try it first though, it might be great with infinite, it might not be.

Yeah, thats what I like about it. Its optional, yet those who want to do so get some small actual in-game benefit beyond 'immersion'. Works for me both ways.

Here we go with the too many cuddles from mummy gang. More fun less time grinding materials, thanks fdev. This game simulates many things, but it is not a simulator, it’s a fictitious imagining of the 34th century.

I lump "immersion/realistic" people in the bag as the "iron man mode" crazies. Get a piece of paper, write down some arbitrary number of probes and stick to it.

Oh and throw in some "imagination" for good measure.

Its somehow only immersive if you are forced to do it along with everyone else even if they don't want to.

I seriously doubt people read the OP fully.
I think you guys jump at the notion of touching probes instantly into a battle frenzy.

What i suggested was basically this:

INFINITE scan for the DSS base module, that does the same a probe does (mapping).
Ammo based probes, with bigger scan radius covering a large area, skill based reusable on return.
