Elites ships are believable in design. They are tightly centered around the center of mass and they they have thrusters and such in places that make sense.

Star Citizen ships are spindly insectoid things that make very little sense to the eyes and should start flinging their spindly bits off in tight turns.

the ship of starcitizen is hell ugly, why would you build so many long parts that are like spikes away from your ship.. SC are telling they want to do everything as realistic, so they come up with G force on the pilot, but you really think such pikes on your ship wont be affected by G force ?? they will break and this ship you see will fly appart as soon they hit the booooooost. so building a brick will be the best way to hold you structure together as soon you apply G force ;-)

wat?

with all that air resistance in space?

personally I like the feel of elite's ships, they feel functional rather then just something made to make a design look good.

Just as a reminder what the ships actually look like :

yes .. the sidewinder is flattish and relatively boring (just needs a better paint job really ;) .. on the other hand : you get (at least ;) one for free, and it is, in its basic configuration, not much more than some cheap city car. (with enough love and money even sideys can become great ships). The rest of the ships are actually nice looking to my eye.

Looks like deep space to me. Honest.

No accounting for taste, I guess. I dislike the look of a few of the ED ships (ironically my least favourite is the Clipper, which everyone else seems to love), but most I like and some I love.

On the other hand, I think most of the SC ships are horribly over-designed messes that should be consigned to a Michael Bay Transformers movie where I won't ever have to look at them. ;)

I think most of the ships are gorgeous. SC has cool designs too, but some look too much like airplanes with exaggerated features to me.

I find the ships in both games not too pleasing. While Elite ships like the Sidewinder and Cobra are iconic, they could habe been spiced up more without losing the traditional shape. The Lakons (except the Asp) and the Dropship are particularly ugly. BUT, the Star Citizen ships are MUCH worse. Avenger ? Humback Whale. Retaliator ? A present day helicopter shape made into a Sci-Fi ship, are you kidding me ? The Aurora glass house ? Might be good for growing plants inside, but a functional ship ? no. And I could go on with every other ship in that game, but I guess you get the point.

Welcome to Elite! The ship designs are the same as they've been for the last 30 years.

...and that's why they look so dull and bleh...1984 design feels dated because it is dated. The python and 'conda are decent, but beyond that, the ships are laughably 1984.

What leads you to believe ships should be beautiful? They're designed to work, not look nice. Ever seen a container ship and thought "gosh, that's one beautiful cargo vessel?"

Quite frankly the Star Citizen ships are a confused mess to me. Form should follow function and ED has it right. In fact it was this aspect that made me buy ED instead of SC ironically.

Because humans like spaceships to look 'cool'. Pych 101.

Humans have what's called vision. They are visual creatures and their emotions are heavily connected to their perceptions of aesthetics.

Also, eyes.

I think that the perception of the Elite Dangerous ships is distorted because there is not yet the possibility to appreciate the REAL scale of them.

I mean... Star Citizen started to build from the internal of the ships and then the travel with those ships... in Elite we have the exact contrary: devs chose (wisely imho)
to start with the travel and THEN build the internals of the ships.

once you will be able to walk inside the hangars and see the majesty of the Elite's ships, and only at that moment, you will re-consider your point of view about the Elite's ships designs.

my 2 cents..
