American Desert Themed DLC

Hello, first off I would like to say congrats on the launch! This game has been so much of a hit in our household that I had to buy an extra HDMI cable to hook my computer up to the TV so we could all play on the big screen! Now I did not know if this post belonged in animal wishlist or suggestions but as it has gameplay element suggestions then I figured it make more sense here (Also sorry if some ideas have been suggested before), forgive me if I am wrong. With that lets begin.

NEW GAMEPLAY ADDITIONS

Educators and Education Centers
  • Educators could roam the park educating people or working in an Amphitheater, taking animals on stage and educating the attendants about them. In addition you could include a 4D Theatre attraction that plays movies on non-animal education topics (like those one sign posts on Traditional Medicine and such).
Staff Electric Carts
  • One of the issues we have with the game is staff takes too long to get to certain areas, meaning you either have to have more staff to cover work zones w/ more buildings but that could increase monthly costs more than you can handle. A solution we thought of could be Staff Electric Carts (Golf Carts) that have a charging station building and can only run on wide enough staff paths. This would increase staff mobility and have an upkeep system so they would not be overpowered.
Wild Animal Fostering
  • An idea to earn more conservation points could be accepting side missions to take in wounded / sick wildlife, nurse them to health, and release them in a set amount of time. We thought this be a good 'quest' type thing instead of 'Adopt 2 animals and get money' while keeping players engaged.
Butterfly Garden
  • An interesting idea for a walk-in exhibit where you could design an indoor garden for butterflies and populate it with different types.
NEW THEMES

Southwestern Native American Theme
  • This theme would incorporate construction and props themed to American Southwestern Tribes like the Navajo or Apache. Here are some sample pictures.

Spanish Mission Theme
  • This theme includes mission themed architecture and stylized objects minus the inquisition. Pictures included.

NEW SHOPS / GUEST ITEMS

Indian Frybread Stand
  • Indian Frybread can come both plain, with meat, or with dessert items (like ice cream and chocolate sauce). It is very good.
Plushy Shop
  • Who doesn't like stuffed animals?
Directional Speakers
  • Direction speakers that would transmit in a cone of audio instead of a sphere would both look more pleasing aesthetically and help educate people without fearing overlap.
Themed Donation Boxes
  • We have themed trash cans and benches, why not themed donation boxes?
Directional Fans / Heaters
  • A cheaper alternative for guests if its too hot / cold out. A few of these are in the Phoenix (Arizona) Zoo for that very reason and some have water misters hooked up to them.
NEW EDUCATION TOPICS

Prairie Dog Apocalypse
  • It may sound like a B-Movie title but the zoo keeper was explaining if Prairie Dog populations go unchecked without animals hunting them, then they can literally destroy land. This happens near farmland that results in livestock being injured and crops destroyed.
Recreational Vehicle Usage in the Desert
  • Another topic is Recreational Vehicles used illegally in national park areas. This is bad because it destroys animals habitats and scares off prey animals.

Good ideas! Definitely want to add coyotes to the list. And perhaps replace fennec foxes with gray foxes or kit foxes. Fennecs come from Africa. (Though they are adorable!) :) I'd love javelina!

Thanks for the reply!

I thought about adding Coyotes but I figured Mexican Gray Wolves could fill that roll better since they are endangered (after all rarer animals are more appealing for Zoos, Coyotes are pretty much south western Trash Panda equivalent). Also Fennecs are there just because its a family favorite for us (We love seeing them at the zoo).

Although I think the more accurate one for the region would be a Swift Fox.

I love the DLC idea and your choice of animals! :)
And your ideas for gameplay additions are great, too! I guess the fostering wouldn't be too hard to implement and a lot of fun :D

A very conclusive post and well presented!
I love your animal list (and the fact you provided pictures).

I am not convinced in respect to the theme, though.
The art is unique, that's for sure. The buildings however could be easily constructed with the already available pieces (African theme!). For an expansion, I would like some propper new options.

I'd especially love to see the Cougar, the Bighorn Sheep (the more sheep and goats the better) and the Fennec Fox in the game. Your exhibit list is great, too, especially the toad and the Horned Lizard!
Out of purely selfisch reasons, I'm not sure about the Javelina. It might be considered visually too close to European Wild Boars, which I would love to be introduced as well. ;)

Its always a flavor type deal. I am sure the devs could put enough detail into each theme they do so it doesn't look like another theme (They do A LOT of details you don't even see unless you zoom in like crazy, like the monorail having treaded wheels under it). I personally like Navajo art styles because of the use of Turquoise but its rarely used in games... I think Zoo Tycoon 2 had Shoshone / Inuit (red and black decorations) if I remember correctly but that was a long long LONG time ago.

Javelina are a lot smaller (around 35 pounds) than the European variety (170 pounds). They also have thinner hair due to the dry climate. With that in mind I think they are different enough.

Other than that thank you for the input!
