Hmm, how could it know?

Internal time stamp? I don't know how they track data on the back end, but it's easy to attach a time to any game action that would get stored (and is often done for debugging).

Edit: Although that sounds like a lot of extra code to check that does little except to make many explorers mad. Maybe they just have the value multiplier flagged at the time of scan.

I've never had a problem reading simple instructions. However, FDev does have a long and well-known history of poorly-worded CG text that has generated pages upon pages of player confusion and frustration.

White knight all you want, but that's a fact.
The Devs think in British English while the rest of the world doesn't. Have pity on them. :)

I think you misunderstood what I was querying:
Don’t think so. ED Discovery says that my new scans after the CH are 3x before turning in.
...I'm asking how EDDiscovery could know, before the scans are turned in, about any multiplier? I'm pretty sure nothing would be in the journal and I can't believe that the app was updated to know about the enhanced payout for a certain period.
Also, someone on reddit claims confirmation by Support:
I have to say I'm really amazed that they pulled this stunt, if it genuinely is real. (I have nothing to gain personally, having not explored.)
But people who were out exploring had the option to turn in their data for a 4x payout a few days ago, and my understanding is that that enhancement applied to everything, right? Not just AW? But now the special extra payout is limited to just fresh data, so the data which was worth 4x 2 days ago at Angus Manwaring is now worth 1x everywhere, and fresh data from today is worth 3x everywhere.

Interesting.

And just a couple of weeks ago people were moaning about previously acquired items being used for CG hand ins!
Maybe different people were complaining...
But given that that behaviour is what we're used to, don't you think a warning would have been nice, that only fresh data would get a bonus payout?

I would agree if people had actually lost credits rather than failed to get as much as they hoped plus it’s credits not like it’s something valuable.
Getting less than expected is a loss, of sorts. And the entire CG was only about credits, both during and after, so the point eludes me.

It’s only a loss if you count chickens before they hatch.

We have different views on what the CG was about, my view is that CGs are about the goal not what we can earn from them that said my point was a general reflection of the importance of credits in the game.

I should have said "the reward from the CG was only credits" because yes the goal is a thing too. And while credits don't matter to most of us my point stands - having a reasonable expectation of a cash bonus and then not getting it isn't a fun experience. A little more care with words would go a long way.

I personally, would prefer this way of contributing - only those bonds/data/mined stuff/goods/ obtained after the start of the CG would count.
It was very frustrating in the recent Combat CG's where many had accumulated Bonds over several weeks (months?) - within a few hours of the CG starting there were billions handed in - I had no chance so only contributed enough to get the min reward, like 75%.

Checking date stamp would be very good for the whole community, very bad for those few affected.

Galnet originally suggested that people who had been out exploring should come back to the bubble to cash in. (Note: I've learned to expect nothing accurately stated from Galnet or CG's, so I wasn't expecting anything; plus I participated in the CG so I handed in all my data already anyway.)

The reward from the CG for me would have been increased status toward elite explorer, not so much the credits. I just handed in ~200 systems ~900 LY away, of which much was not fresh. It's not so much that I got ~20m credits for all of that instead of ~80m, but that I didn't get 4x the points towards my elite rating. That was disappointing.

Others have already determined that the bonus doesn't affect rank anyway, so you can feel relieved about that 😉
