An honest question about the two most popular space flight sims

I was thinking the other day that if you take Star Citizen in its current state (as of today it is Alpha 3.10) and add only ONE more feature - procedurally generated start systems (planets, moons, stations etc). Then you release it as as retail, you will have 50% more content/features than ED.

is that a fair statement?

SCED
Planetary Landing including atmosphericPlanetary Landing on airless moons only
multiple types of ground vehiclesonly one SRV type
dynamic weather systemnot implemented
Ship Interior not implemented
Cities Interiornot implemented
stations and star ports interiornot implemented
Interaction with environmentnot implemented
FPS not implemented
Real multiplayer experience.broken and half baked multiplayer experience.
good mission system good mission system
mining (ships, vehicles and by foot) ship mining only
real economy and player to player trading supportedhmmm? i wouldn't call ED economy an "economy" but whatever.
over 90 playable ships 38 playable ships
one hand crafted star systemvast galaxy ready to be explored
decent sound and audiobest sound and audio in gaming history. Deserve an award in my opinion
good flight model (including atmospheric) great flight model but no atmospheric

I am sure I missed something but I think I got the major stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I love ED and I think it's a great space sim but its only saving grace is the fact that SC will never see the light of day. If SC was released today, I foresee ED player base to shrink to a size of an English green pea.

I hope and pray that Odyssey will show me that I am so wrong about the future of ED.

Calling procedurally generated universe "one thing" is like saying that if we add just one thing, the population of China, to the US we'd have the most population of any country.

It can be described broadly but thats a trick of language, not actual simplicity.

SC also lacks stability and includes pay to win limited edition ships. Lacks the player experience control of Elite's modes and "adds" a never ending pile of feature creep.

If they ever release an actual game I'll take a look at SC but until then I'm calling it a Ponzi Scam.

I can't wait until Star Citizen adds:
  • VR support
  • a fully-working flight model
  • server meshing (not 50-player capped servers)
  • player ship refueling
  • player ship repair
  • stable physics
  • faction warfare
  • faction reputation
  • a few dozen star systems to explore
  • aliens to battle/research/trade
  • aliens structures to explore
  • scientific mysteries
  • lore-filled wrecks and bases
  • dynamic economy
  • crafting
  • equipment modification
  • guild mechanics
  • functional tutorials
  • functional NPCs with AI
  • black holes
  • orbital mechanics
  • fleet carriers
  • sharable discoveries
  • and full MMO persistence.
But tbh I don't understand features/content development.

What Elite Dangerous really needs is a roadmap to the roadmap of the roadmap.

haha no way. Eve online is a space MMO, not a real flight sim. NMS is a space survival game.
when I said space sim, I meant space FLIGHT sim :)

That's an important distinction because I would ALSO say that EVE and NMS are the top space games right now.

Flight sim? Star Wars probably about to claim that title, and then after that there's a whole gambit with Elite in the mix - though I would say Elite has the superior flight model over the vast majority of the field. Unfortunately, that's about all it has these days.

As an Englishman, I have to point out that I don't have green pee.
