An Honest Review From a well-rounded gamer(non-spacenerd)

"well-rounded gamer" may be the lamest term anyone has came up with.

I mean, for real if you enjoy multiple game genres that doesn't make you a well-rounded gamer, you're just a gamer like any other. And just because people found that they like some genres more than others that doesn't make their view biased or make them unable to enjoy other games, its something completely normal.

It seems like OP is pretty much calling those who enjoy Space games fanboys, and that is not true. You can LOVE Sci-Fi/Space games and still have a non-biased view of these games.

Another thread that wants ED to change to be like every other mmo out there, If you like the standard mmo formula there are plenty of them out there that will cater to that desire. If you don't like Italian food then don't eat at an Italian restaurant, capiche?

There are people who don't like Italian food? :D

I think he's right. Anytime someone feels the need to preface a thought by saying "honestly" or "quite frankly," I feel like I'm about to be fed a line of bull. Usually by a politician or salesman. What, were they not honest before? Are they usually telling lies but now it's time to be honest?

Sets off my sensors every time!

Saying CIG has it right is also similarly ludicrous. Not a big space sim or sci fi guy but keeps up with an unfinished game like Star Citizen enough to declare it better? Uh huh. Sure.

Star Control fanbois (I know, I know...) are in overdrive rage right now

OP - This game isnt in your taste, unistall and move on...
The game is brand new for gods sake, its like a empty house. Now it needs furnitures and adjustments. No game releases with tons of content.. there will be more ships and stuff, relax and enjoy the freaking game. Im a HUGE sci.fi fan and i enjoy every moment in this game, even though it lacks on certain fronts, but i keep on playing BECAUSE i know there will be more content. They are working on alot of stuff for ED.
This game isnt for everyone, its huge and empty.. well guess what WE are in Space.. Space is huge and empty, not rocket science. Alot of players complains about missing content.. you act like babies screaming for the pacifier, it will come, like i wrote earlier..RELAX. And if you cant wait for content, log off and play another game.. really easy, and come back in a month or two. Meanwhile i will trade on.. Bounty hunt etc.

I played the Original Elite and i remember how i loved it, nothings gonna change that. And im gonna stay until their servers explode or they decide to stop ED..

There's certainly alot of anger on the forums (not sure why) - and whilst I don't agree with everything the OP said, I had hoped the ED forums would be a bit more mature, without the usual vitriol.

This game is more Star Trek than Star Wars.

Star Wars is serial-level fantasy that happens to take place in space sometimes. It's fun and I love it, too, but when you started out saying, 'I like Star Wars...', I immediately thought, 'oh this guy is not going to have a good time'.

lol.

haha yes, you make a great point!

I still had a good time with what I considered to be the best part of the game it just didn't last long enough and the wall hit me when the spacetruck was introduced. I think what would have prevented my judgement's might have been scaling bounty zones.

Simple kill grinding to keep space simpletons like me happy. Group combat quests and warzones only conquerable by a large team would keep adrenaline high as well, I'm not sure if that takes too much away from the niche side of the game.

Why is my review honest? Well I guess because I'm unaffiliated entirely from having an adverse opinion about any type of game until I've actually experienced it. I have no stock in the success or failure of this game and really just wanted to get my $60 worth.

+1 OP, you should give this type of reviews outside this forum, where you're heared. also you should listen to admiral ackbar when he says it's a trap !

Ok, I'm NOT a well-rounded gamer. I used to be, but not anymore. Yes, I'm one of the hated 1984s who fell in love with the original game. But here's the thing... even though the game is far from perfect, it's been ten years since I got lock, stock and barrel immersed in a game (Gran Turismo 3 actually) the way I have been sucked into ED. For me, it just works. Even if I had paid three times over the actual price, I would be happy to have paid it. I've already gotten more enjoyment out of this game than any recent other gaming experience.
So bottom line... you're disappointed? Feel free to move on. Don't assume you speak for other gamers because there are PLENTY that feel exactly like I do.

IF they explode they gonna give us a dump of the server last status.... :)

Yes, on a box in Hyde Park sounds about right

I agree. What we have with this version is solid, a few bugs, but quite solid none the less. As time goes by I have faith that the devs will round out the things that make this iteration of the genre unique.

As for the underpaid developers, most if not all developers don't get into programming games for the money, they get into it for the love of the game (genre). And by the way the devs communicate their wishes for the future I can feel the love here!

Then why would current and former employees feel the need to express their discontent with the management and the way the company runs projects, not to mention the comments on how they treat people. If they were happy they wouldn't be publicly writing about the problems behind the scenes.

Schindler, I think you have some valid concerns, but I think the long and short of it is that it's possible that you're not the core demographic. Elite: Dangerous is a lot of things, but (and gods know I love this game), I don't know that "well-rounded" is one of them. It seems aimed squarely at space nerds. I am very happy to include myself as one of those. If you don't dream of having your own ship, of getting lost in the black for hours, of staring at strange worlds and stars and so on, I don't know that there's enough else here to keep you occupied.

A lot of the game is slow, deliberate and it's quite easy to fail a mission or die because of a lapse in concentration (or someone else being behind you, better prepared and of the mindset that you should probably be dead about now, though that's not happened to me yet)

I think the trailer they released has a lot to answer for here. It shows things that are not only "not actual gameplay" but "not actually representative of your time in the game".

Long story short, you're quite right not to think the game's good enough. It's absolutely what I've been waiting for for YEARS, but I'm not you. and even I will admit that the game has a long way to go and that what I'm enjoying here is really the bare bones of the experience. As it stands, I really like space trucking for hours. I like hunting for bounties, or doing a little light pir... er... freelance customs inspection. Staring at witchspace. Narrowly escaping death because some decided to fly out of the station like a bat out of hell and wrecked my shields.

But I don't think I can in good conscience tell you that your opinions are wrong. They're yours. Mine are right for me, too.

Go then? Why does everyone feel the need to write out a huge novel when they're leaving. I can understand if you were a pillar of the community but you're certainly not, so just walk to the damn exit. Imagine if someone stood up on a table and rattled off a speech about their innermost desires and feelings before leaving a local McDonald's. Hopefully that person would be told to shut the hell up and leave.

As opinionated as I might seem, you're just rude.

How do you know I don't have a huge backing of players that I may or may not lead into battle against the other various factions/clans/guilds? Why would it matter if that were the case or not? I didn't pull these conclusions of the game out of my ass and I'm not the only one that shares this opinion, trust me. For every space enthusiast supporting this game with their $60 there are scores more typical gamers like me that have or might buy this game and further support the development and upkeep of the game.

I don't care what kind of gamer you are, you can't agree that this game deserves a good review on it's release.

You should try playing X plane 10. Now that is a learning curve. You need to do a lot of research just to get the scenery in and to fly.

I enjoyed the whole aspect of working out everything, from the controls, how to best configure the joystick, working out Voice Attack, then making EdTracker work.. That is 50% of the fun for me.

If your not of the same mind, and want everthing on the plate handed to you, then Elite is not for you

I can. I really, REALLY hate the Lara Croft reboot. And Battlefield. And I thought the Force Unleashed was near unplayable. Doesn't mean they didn't deserve the reviews they got.

there was a rumour about a space gold rush in the gaming industry loud enough to wake a couple of mummies from egypt
