An Idea for Battlecruisers

Hello Elite community!

We all know and love the battlecruiser slugfest that tend to happen in high intensity combat zones. The raw power of one of these massive capital ships is unparalleled anywhere else in the game. But what if we made them a player controlled asset, like Fleet Carriers?

While this would require some game mechanic changes (such as allowing the ships to jump directly into points of interest like combat zones), most of the groundwork is already there for them. They run off tritium, like carriers, jump about 500 LY (although both classes say it is classified), and they most likely include refuel, rearm, and repair at bare minimum.

To balance the ungodly firepower of a not-quite-battleship-but-not-a-cruiser, it should be rather expensive to deploy and use. There is a very good reason the FN and IN do not deploy them to anything but the highest intensity battles.
These ships may also be damaged by enemy action, requiring repairs. The Battlecruisers would not include anything like a market or ship buying, due to these being raw combat ships. Secondarily, it may be pertinent to lock these to the highest ranks of both the Federal Navy and Imperial Navy, since logically, you wouldn't let a lieutenant command a ship that is fully capable of putting entire planets under siege and winning.

In short, I would love to see the Battlecruisers (especially the Farragut) come to the game as player controlled assets. Let me know what you guys think, I would love to hear feedback.

Thanks,
Gray

This is actually an excellent point, although if I remember correctly, both the Federal and Imperial Navy have specialized docks for their capital ships. Like I said, it would take some changes, but again, just a suggestion.

lol yea capital ships in ED are kinda pitiful, huh? They roll in like the scariest thing on the block, and then 5 minutes later they're running away yelling "Not the face! It's my meal ticket!"
Are capital ship turrets still defeated by chaff? I remember seeing someone rout a farragut in a viper once. Not even during a battle, they just attacked the one in Sol and drove it off while the authority ships tried to stop him.

They are easily defeated period as they are. It doesn't even take skill. All it takes is a properly outfit and engineered ship, knowing where the heatsinks are, and about 3 minutes. It takes more skill to get to the point where it jumps in than it does to defeat it.

I always thought even the smallest of ships are about the size of a house. It's yuuuuge

Yeah, but if they were anything else the cries of "NPC Cheats" would rattle the heavens.
