Hello Elite community!
We all know and love the battlecruiser slugfest that tend to happen in high intensity combat zones. The raw power of one of these massive capital ships is unparalleled anywhere else in the game. But what if we made them a player controlled asset, like Fleet Carriers?
While this would require some game mechanic changes (such as allowing the ships to jump directly into points of interest like combat zones), most of the groundwork is already there for them. They run off tritium, like carriers, jump about 500 LY (although both classes say it is classified), and they most likely include refuel, rearm, and repair at bare minimum.
To balance the ungodly firepower of a not-quite-battleship-but-not-a-cruiser, it should be rather expensive to deploy and use. There is a very good reason the FN and IN do not deploy them to anything but the highest intensity battles.
These ships may also be damaged by enemy action, requiring repairs. The Battlecruisers would not include anything like a market or ship buying, due to these being raw combat ships. Secondarily, it may be pertinent to lock these to the highest ranks of both the Federal Navy and Imperial Navy, since logically, you wouldn't let a lieutenant command a ship that is fully capable of putting entire planets under siege and winning.
In short, I would love to see the Battlecruisers (especially the Farragut) come to the game as player controlled assets. Let me know what you guys think, I would love to hear feedback.
Thanks,
Gray
