An idea that could fix logging?

Are there examples of other P2P openworld multiplayer games? How do they handle CLogging?

Dark Souls isn't exactly an open world multiplayer game, but combat loggers (although they're not called that there lol) are shadowbanned if they disconnect too many times when there are other players in their world or they are in someone else's world. Oh, and you can't disconnect in those cases either, there's no timer or anything. Now that I think about it, maybe Elite could learn a thing or two from Dark Souls.

The server connection in this game is way too unstable for them to make a reliable tool for this.
Deal with it. Block players you don't like to meet, for whatever reason you have not wanting to play with them.
Personally, I've never combat logged as I don't see a reason to. Yet, this is the number of logged server disconnects I've had since July last year. Disconnects are a lot more common in shared instances. I don't think my count is unique in any way.

Agreed, something needs to be done. Seems like tracking combat disconnects should be feasible....although there would be ways around it ("simulating" random disconnects to screw up the algorithm etc). But it would help.

The only comparable mode in ED is CQC. It would make sense to have something like this in CQC, but the dev time would probably be better spent working on making it something more people actually want to play.

I'm sure the makers of Splattime were sure that those guys were cheating, due to their networking scheme. or some such. I am sure FD would like to have the confidence to punish people for combat logging. As evidenced by how they quickly and openly they punished those guys who were cheating the Engineers mechanic. You do remember that, right?

That wasn't a punishment. LOL That was a PR stunt.

I'd really love to see you try tracking disconnects - combat or otherwise :D

The simplest solution, in my view, would be that if you lose connection during combat with another player you log in to the rebuy screen. They'd never actually do this of course.. Just imagine the forum crying..
You guys are funny... You understand that it is p2p connection between two players, right? I guess we need to petition FDev that they both die if get disconnected :) And yes, each individual connection can have a problem in this p2p model.

A solid statistical model that monitores the stiuation players are in, at the moment of ungraceful exit.

If a player repeatedly disconects during combat, without any prior network issues, the game could great them with a spinning Sidewinder.

yeah, of course. or machine learning, why not ...

then there's also the common sense option: have a solid network, let people dc at their own risk and accept that accidents do happen.

It's ironic, isn't it. Most of the loudest clamouring for harsh "combat logging" penalties comes from people who wouldn't even still be able to play if Frontier was inclined to really punish anybody.

You know? That besieger guy was awful upset about the combat logging. Just look at some of his posts. I wonder how he feels about the even more horrific plight out there, the Blocker?

as long as there are losers ganking players, i'll keep logging out, suckers!
its a video game, get over it.
like the "role players" LOL

Watch it. Or you'll end up on a KoS list out there for promoting cheating. KoS means Kill on Site. True story.

Easy fix. Player logs out in combat = NPC spawns in to ship and continues the fight. Whatever happens to the NPC happens to the players ship.

No more evading rebuys.

It has been determined that due to the P2P structure of E|D, it is not possible to create an NPC replacement. This has been mentioned by more than one Dev, on more than one occasion.
